keep in mind that jack riewoldt destroyed him two weeks ago, and last week was only against gold coast. i think a couple of weeks off could do him good - i still expect to see him play a lot of games over the next ten years.mr six o'clock wrote:If simpkin doesn't play , can only be to give him a rest !

I would prefer Simpkin to Raph, Gwilt needs to play, he needs to be if form for us to be a chance.Old Mate wrote:I'd feel safer with Simpkin in the back half instead of Clarke or Gwilt tbh.
Re: Round 12 Team v Adelaide
Problem with Simpkin is that he doesn't give much going forward... so with Blake and Dempster who similarly don't do much going forward he's behind them I reckon...
Blake - second ruck and can take the big bodied Tippet... not sure that Simpline can...
Dempster - has been superb this year and last on smalls and medium Talls alike... more versatile, can push up and has a booming kick..

Hird... The unflushable one is now... just a turd...
Re: Round 12 Team v Adelaide
I reckon you're right Richter...
Would it in fact be Blake over Simpkin, with Jason being the more flexible?
It appears he is trying to settle down on what he considers his best 22 moving forward....

Re: Round 12 Team v Adelaide
this is the oldest side we've put on the park at any time in the last five years, assuming it's the one that runs out.
average age is 27.1 years old. median age is 28.1, so half of the players in the team are older than 27. all of the fifteen oldest players on the list are in the side, except brett peake. only one of the nineteen youngest players is - arryn siposs.
i guess we're going with experience as it's a massive game, and we have very few injuries so you'd expect most of the older players to be first choice. still, it's an interesting counterpoint to the youth of round 2 - this side is eighteen months older on average.

Re: Round 12 Team v Adelaide
[quote="Legendary"]Big surprise.
Would have put Simpkin ahead of Gwilt on their present form and importance for this match ... with the two tall Adelaide forwards ... Gwilt is not yet fit enough and has not recovered enough pace to play as a key back.
That's what I think too (along with several others).
I think Gwilty could do with a big game in the seconds.
But it looks like a really strong team either way. I'm tipping us, and feeling good about where we're at.

Not a low carb or mid strength team for sure. Don't mind the vintage either.
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Re: Round 12 Team v Adelaide
Simpkin has played well -except against the tigers - but, if Blake, Fisher and Dempster are all selected to play down back, there isn't a spot for him IMO. Raph and Gwilt play different sorts of roles.
If McEvoy doesn't come up, then Blake goes into the ruck and Simpkin comes back.
The player I'm surprised to see hold his spot is Milera.
Anyway, it's great to see so much competition for selection!!

6 day break.
Kosi out IMO with Geary replacing him.
I heard Johncock (head) is out for the Crows.

Re: Round 12 Team v Adelaide
The good news is we have about 30 genuine players competing for the top 22 - if injuries don't stop us we should be able to field strong teams every week. simpkin has been good but was destroyed by Jack R a few weeks back ( not the first guy to suffer that ) and maybe can flex some musclefor the Zebs to get himself back up and going - Newnes has been great but may be a year off being in the top 22

Re: Round 12 Team v Adelaide
think Simpkin out is a bit stiff, but think Wilkes not getting a crack is a bit stiff too.
Kosi is absolutely rubbish in the ruck, so unless he starts playing like he did at the start of the year, he's got to be in trouble.

Very surprised about simpkin but perhaps it is a good opportunity to give the younger blokes a 2 week rest? Still the kid has been awesome deserved his spot

Dissapointed for Simpkin and IMO any game young Newness gets in the seniors is a bonus for us.
Gwilt, Clarke, Fisher, Dempster, Blake in the backline is pretty much our best ATM.
Up forward only Stanley missing.
Nice to have Mac bac so we can use the space of the forward line forKosi and Roo with the likes of Milera, Saad, Milne and Schneider at their feet.
Seems a good balanced team.
If we can pinch a win and suffer no injuries tonight we go into the second half of the season in pretty fair shape.
Lance or James??

I have hardly ever read anything from him/her/it that in anyway contributes to the debate.
But then again after what I have heard about him, I am not suprised.

Simpkin very unlucky, Gilbert very lucky. May not give the run but does not turn it over either.

You only do that because you know I'm so lazy I couldn't give a s*** about trawling through old threads of you potting peoples opinions.
Re: Round 12 Team v Adelaide
I hope Gilbert now can peel off a lot more and gain a bit of confidence (form) now that our best back 6 is pretty much on the field... Its been very unsettled with 1 or 2 ins and outs each week...older saint wrote:Simpkin very unlucky, Gilbert very lucky. May not give the run but does not turn it over either.
Simpkin is unlucky, Im a fan, and he has a big future..
Good type of pressure for those currently in the team, with him breathing down their necks...
Backing Gilbo in to turn it around from here on...
