He may be offered a heavily reduced contract, but delisted?

Just remember we're two players short of a full senior list. I'd imagine we will upgrade two rookies to fill the list. At this stage Ferguson and Curren the frontrunners. Then delist/rookie/trade/retire 4-6 players to give us a few picks in the draft.Ross who? wrote:Ferguson too!gringo wrote:Wouldn't mind getting Dunnell and Curren signed up to the seniors.
Not sure how we are going to handle all the upgrades this year with the Super draft.
I keep hearing round 11 or half way through the season.borderbarry wrote:we're two players short of a full senior list. I'd imagine we will upgrade two rookies to fill the list.
When are we able to do that? Shortly I hope.
Round 12 every club can promote a nominated rookie without putting anyone on LTI List. But they go back onto rookie list at years end, same as any LTI promoted rookie.Old Mate wrote:I keep hearing round 11 or half way through the season.borderbarry wrote:we're two players short of a full senior list. But why? Surely you have only seen him play a couple of times.
If we promote someone, then that makes sense to me BB.borderbarry wrote:It will be between Curren, Ferguson, and Dunnell as to who gets promoted after Round 12. I think we are alright for Mids, but a tall defender and a medium forward, we dont have many of either. Ferguson for mine.

If we can't currently find a spot for the cat-kicker Ledger, then why would we promote Curren this mid year? As I've opined before, I suspect Dunnell will end up an absolute star, but a bit more time in the gym first won't hurt - so next year for him for mine.
That leaves Jackson F... P66 is probably correct in saying he's not quite ready yet, but maybe given our situation with tall defenders, we may try and get a few games into him... like we did with Simpko last season???
gunnsaint wrote:Why is Jimmy Gwilt and unrestricted free agent. He hasn't been at the club 8 years yet. At the end of this year it makes him a restricted free agent doesn't it?
The Dockers will be the aggressor in free agency because they have the coin.
We keep hearing about Travis Cloke, but Brendon Goddard is the fascinating one.
They are interested - make no mistake - and given the Ross Lyon connection, it makes sense.
Goddard plays the media game brilliantly, citing his loyalty yet leaving the door ajar.
He has told St Kilda he doesn't intent to go elsewhere, but there is no doubt they need to shed one highly-paid player to keep under the salary cap.
Especially with the kids improving so much and therefore deserving pay rises.
And with Lenny Hayes going on and deserving fair money.
All of it adds up to a potential win-win deal if St Kilda got picks for Goddard, valuable salary cap relief, and Fremantle got the player it wants.
St Kilda
Jason Blake (unrestricted)
Raphael Clarke (unrestricted)
Sam Fisher (restricted)
Brendon Goddard (restricted)
Jason Gram (restricted)
James Gwilt (unrestricted)
Lenny Hayes (unrestricted)
Justin Koschitzke (unrestricted)
Stephen Milne (unrestricted)
Leigh Montagna (unrestricted)
Sam Fisher recently signed on long-term, with Gram and Kosi having clauses which should see them playing on next year at quite good money.
Milne signed another one-year deal too, so he is safe.
So who ultimately gets done in by the number crunch that is their salary cap squeeze?
Nick Dal Santo has one more year on his deal, but they simply cannot fit everyone in given the back-ended contracts and promises made in past years.
It is believed the problem facing Chris Pelchen is even more extreme than the issues at Hawthorn when they were basically bottom of the ladder but with one of the highest wage bills.
The key is the success Scott Watters is having in his first year.
If this side was 3-7 and Goddard was being offered $1 million a year at Fremantle, why wouldn't he go?
Similarly, the fact GWS has admitted it is not in the race for Travis Cloke means surely it cannot afford Goddard.
So scratch him from considerations to move up north.
In the cold hard light of the day, Montagna is under the pump.
Not because his form is not great - he was super v Richmond on Friday night - but if they are going to lose one high-paid midfielder, he might just be the one left over.
Lets hope St Kilda finds a way to keep him.
But given the wage constraints it seems almost certain that one player will be tipped out. Its going to be St Kilda's version of musical chairs.
James Gwilt is another one raising eyebrows across the competition.
The club says it will keep him, but given he kicks it well, is versatile and can play key back, there will definitely be suitors for him.
The club plucked him from nowhere, has given him seven-and-a-half years, and will play him every week.
But he has some bargaining power given the likely interest from elsewhere.
REally, cause i've heard the opposite. who knows, i guess only BJ. FWIW my gut feel is he'll stay.ThePunter wrote:Fremantle may have the money, but all my mail is that Goddard does not want to play under Ross Lyon again.
Will GWS go after anybody? Or are they sufficiently happy with their early development that they'll stick with what they have and keep the money to try and keep as many of the kids together as possible?
The whole Cloke thing is weird. Who has their father as their manager? Crazy.
