hounded plugger out of victoria and into barrassi's arms....in my opinion...Waltzing St Kilda wrote:+1joffaboy wrote:Like Michelle Gratten, was once the leader in their field in journalism, now just a sad sorry, past it joke.
Should have gone 10 years ago. Leave it to the likes of Jake Naill and greg Baum.
His recent work, which has included numerous hatchet jobs on the Saints, has made him about as relevant to good footy journalism as Scotty Palmer.
Keep punchin', Scotty!

Sounds like he hasn't even really left the HS, just stepped down as chief of footy (saints can't make the finals) & pole smoking…plugger66 wrote:He has left the HS not on the coauch.St Lenny wrote:Like all journos, never let the truth get in the way of a good story. He belongs to an era of journalists that existed prior to the current gaggle of boys and girls who in many cases are nothing better than Hollywood Gossip Columnists and whose words owe more to ACA/Today Tonight than The Sporting Globe.Dr Spaceman wrote:plugger66 wrote:Anyway he was an excellent journalist and I gather a pretty good bloke too which is quite important.
That new era was ushered in by Eddie McGuire who went on to show the new generation that great fame and riches could be had if you were prepared to get all “tabloidyâ€

Exactly why I haven't deliberately read anything he has written for years!plugger66 wrote:He is still doing it though. I reckon if you dont like it you dont have to read it surely.HSVKing wrote:Won't miss his top 50/100... What a waste those things were. Sucking up to the players he loved most.

FWIW I quite like Mikes articles.

All the radio stations talk about it, every article relates back to it ("Will he be Mikes #1" etc).

what a life, being paid wads of cash for forty years for WRITING and TALKING about men chasing and kicking leather through sticks.. great gig. Didn't do one pre season or get injured himself, but is able to fire pot shots at blokes indiscretions ad nauseum. who has ever given a toss about his top 50 -it's one grade five tunnel ball champions opinion only.
can you tell i am jealous?
word of advice Mike, in retirement stay away from the middle of Australia, you will get a mouthful of flies.

How can someone say noone gives a "toss" about the Top 50. How much debate does it get?Saint_in_SA wrote:what a life, being paid wads of cash for forty years for WRITING and TALKING about men chasing and kicking leather through sticks.. great gig. Kim Duthie got a response. Good?gringo wrote:Mike was good for footy because he got a response. I spent days arguing instead of working after reading his top 10 lists.
You could guarantee that he would put some s*** bag in it every year and year after year we took the bait.
Sorry. Logic fail.
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'
yeah, just stepped down as chief. will still contribute and as plugger said, will still do the top 50 thing. basically following ricky ponting's lead.dragit wrote:Sounds like he hasn't even really left the HS, just stepped down as chief of footy (saints can't make the finals) & pole smoking…plugger66 wrote:He has left the HS not on the coauch.St Lenny wrote:Like all journos, never let the truth get in the way of a good story.
