Maybe. Raph did do well in the 08 Semi against the filth. His first two finals in 09 were very good as well and I though he played very well against the dogs in the prelim. Some people may laugh, but without his drive out of the backline in a game were we really struggled, we would have been in serious trouble.plugger66 wrote:I actually cant follow how people can say that. Zac is a KPP and no obvious replacement and Raph is an ordinary HBF and there are other options there. Zac for all his apparent failures has a much better finals record than Raph. If it was a choice and obviously it isnt I would have Zac as the last to lose out of all the apparently uncontracted players.borderbarry wrote:I am not happy about how Raph is never mentioned. Looks like we will lose one of the experienced player

has the age article been flagged on here.. "cause that's not my recollection
"Nettlefold should know as he played with both men during his 43 matches for the Saints between 1979-83 before he was offloaded to Fitzroy because of financial pressures. It's also clear he knows what it would mean for all Saints supporters to have the club flourishing on and off the field."

which is probably why we can't sign him up, he's simply worth moreplugger66 wrote:I actually cant follow how people can say that. Just said on the news, when showing the recording of our new ad, down on the beach, that the ones we were most likely to lose one of were Peake, Dempster and Farren Ray. The club is seemingly still confident of keeping Zac and claim to be very confident that we won't lose anyone that we don't want to lose. It seems we don't want to lose Zac, which makes sense to me, as it's harder to find someone that tall who can play, than someone who plays on the flanks and can be much more easily replaced, structurally.
It would probably be a bit humbling for Pelchan to be grovelling for Zac to stay, if he was the one who gave him the ass from Hawthorn, though!

YOU GET WHAT YOU SETTLE FOR.
It's probably not fair, so sign a 12 month deal and make yourself so indispensable that the club can not but reward you at seasons end.fingers wrote:As is my want I have connected a couple of random dots....X Clarke tweeting about asking players to take a pay cut at the Saints isn't fair - I guess Raph has been asked to take a pay cut.
Plenty have lifted and done so before now, let them be your model.
Or leave for a better offer because the club stuffed up previously.SainterK wrote:It's probably not fair, so sign a 12 month deal and make yourself so indispensable that the club can not but reward you at seasons end.fingers wrote:As is my want I have connected a couple of random dots....X Clarke tweeting about asking players to take a pay cut at the Saints isn't fair - I guess Raph has been asked to take a pay cut.

Most of these guys had no interest during trade week, could risk being rookied and getting less.
I am talking about Dawson. Also there was probably many players who had little interest in them but just dropping their wages because we can doesnt do a lot for morale.SainterK wrote:....and if there is no better offer?plugger66 wrote:Or leave for a better offer because the club stuffed up previously.SainterK wrote:It's probably not fair, so sign a 12 month deal and make yourself so indispensable that the club can not but reward you at seasons end.fingers wrote:As is my want I have connected a couple of random dots....X Clarke tweeting about asking players to take a pay cut at the Saints isn't fair - I guess Raph has been asked to take a pay cut.

Hopefully with this new structure these things will be better managed so
a) Players will want to stay at the club because it's a good environment to be in
b) Players that are required will be signed earlier rather than later
c) No-one has to take a pay cut because the club stuffed up
I assume all of this will now be Pelchens responsibility to oversee

When you think about it, he is the player whom we have plenty of backups available to fill the position. I dont know what he would attract money wise but I get the feeling he may be the one on the outer so they can keep Dawson?
From a list management perspective it would sense!

Whilst I completely disagree with what you say we have at least options for HBF. Matter of fact probably half the side could play there and do their job. We have bugger all options for FB. Zac is clearly better than anyone else at the club in that position.skeptic wrote:I have a nasty feeling it's Raph too
would be devastated if that was the case
Raph is a much better player in his position than Zac at his
Wouldn't be bothered if we lost Peake

Would be a shame, thought it was his best year yet...and on the back of a similar hamstring injury as Nick.
Though I can't say any of them leaving wouldn't bother me, they all have their positives.

hasnt Peake signed a new 2 yr deal? was that reported recently or more media BS?
Raph or Zac.....what a choice..
Reality is while Zac is 195cm, played some good games he's also a liability 1 out and loses/takes eyes off the ball constantly.
Raph provides some super run from defence and then undoes all this by proceeding to think....then bounce the ball, drop the ball, get run down from behind while the stadium screams for his blood....
Id keep Zac purely for structure - nothing else, BUT he aint ever gonna be a great FB IMHO...serviceable.......that'll do for now...
