The real error was in not getting something for Ball, and using that + pick 16 that we used for Lovett, on Burgoyne, who in my book was a step above Ball last night.

Hird... The unflushable one is now... just a turd...

I reckon watching the game last night, Lyon would have been thinking to himself 'see, I told you. It's all about defence and keeping your opponent from scoring'.

He would have been thinking that right up until 3/4 time. But, as has been the case forever, and particularly with us, you need to be able to score to win.

And Collingwood were able to score. In a low scoring, tight struggle, they somehow found 5 goals! 5 goals!

They'd kicked 5 for 3 quarters, but then were able to turn it on and find another 5 in a Prelim final.

That was the difference.

It was the difference with us in 09 (granted, there were other things too), and it was the difference in 2010 aswell. Both games, when it was tight, we just couldn't manufacture that extra goal - and both times our opponents did.

You must be able to hurt your opponent offensively. And not a grinding hurt over 4 quarters - a short, sharp knockout blow whenever you need it. Not a 'death by 1000 cuts hurt - but a quick goal, or a quick burst that is found when you need it.

I have a suspicion that Lyon would still believe that it's all about keep your opponent to low scores - it's just that Hawthorn didn't defend well enough in the last quarter. He seems that stubborn in regards to his own ideals.

And I still believe, and last night further proves it for me, that he's wrong.
Sums Lyon and his philosophy up perfectly. Our willingness to tale risks went out the door when GT was sacked and replaced by this stubborn, inflexible, robot of a man. It cost us premierships IMO.
Yep we should have taken risks with our kicking. The Hawks are a great kicking side but when they got tired in the last quarter their kicking started to struggle and the pies pounced. If we tried to play anything like the Hawks last night the game would have been over at quarter time. I love how we think it is that simple how the game should be played. Well it isnt otherwise morons on here could coach.
Morons on here have the right to express opinions as does Lyon to take money rather than established working relationships that he cares about.

The point being expressed is are we better off without Lyon - all debatable but in a hypothetical world calling someone a moron is just that - moronic.
And i have never said morons cant express their opinion. I said morons on here could coach if it was that easy. Does that mean I called people expressing their opinions, morons. No not at all.
You've called people on here Morons - that's the point. It really doesn't get much simpler than that. You can expand on whether it's about coaching or anything but the point is you call people Morons.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Ball is a conniving little user who plays for an opposition club. His behaviour at the time of his transfer was contemptible and personally I despise the over rated little tossbag. I wouldn't have him back at our club if he came free with Tom Scully, Gary Ablett, Phil Davis, Barry Hall and every other money grubbing parasite who play this great game only for their own self aggrandisment and financial benefit. While I agree that drafting Lovett turned out to be a big mistake... drafting a spud like Ball in the first place was an even bigger one... we need to move on right now. With the right coach and a new vision for recruiting the next few years should be a really exciting time for the club.

Yeah while I have watered down my opinion on Ball and his fault in the equation, I think blaming Ross entirely now is wrong also. He wanted to be respected is what he said which seems to mean he though his game didn't need work. Or he left for a better financial situation. Not a great endorsement. Now he plays somewhere else who cares. Hawthorn probably didn't care that Mc Glynn and Kennedy were not there last night, they have moved on and are not looking back.

Lyon never sang the team song
They need a Wayne Carey type coach, Need more mongral.
Also Nich has enough on his plate just playing
Goddard would be the best long term captain.
