As if that were the problem the club endured. Disingenuous again.BigMart wrote:How did we make two grand finals then
Why the slip....purely because of one player???
Or did other teams get better and we did not??

If you haven't got the cattle.....
Many here over rate our list and abilities and under rate RL's effort in getting us to 2 GF's.
If our list had different players / characteristics then I'm sure our style of play would be different, perhaps only in a subtle way.
Been said before that the game plan in place is to cover many flaws and shortcomings in the players.
Tudor to Sydney was a massive loss IMO

Maybe pelchin will enforce a new policy with regards to recruitment
They have to be good before we select them
Totally agree with you on the recruiting side of things - eternally frustrating when the pies, cats, hawks ( all our contemporary rivals, who pre-trading have had similar order in the draft) can unearth these diamonds and we pick garden variety hacks....
Different argument there though.....the talk was on game plan etc...

"end of an era"
Hopefully this is Ross talk for new game plan and no more ricmond/geelong rejects.
I'm hoping Ross turns to the new "kids" for skills and pace over these rejects from other clubs.
This may infact act as a bit of 'fresh air' in the club cause last night we looked a very stagnant and disheartened team.
I am very interested to see what Pelchen does over the summer.

Maybe as A Jeans said weve were well coached?
FFS your constant attacks on Lyon and ALL failures resulting from the coaching box are becoming boorish. Really, what part of football execution as the responsibility of players dont you get??
Lyon said in his presser that the "message got lost last night" and the side was "unrecognisable" in qtr 2 - he also said CLEARLY some players were pushing up, out of position etc which tells me they werent FOLLOWING INSTRUCTION.
FFS it aint ALL the coach. I dont agree with Dempster fwd but ferk me we had real chances to win that game when well paid players couldve/shouldve imposed themselves on the game.........and simply failed.

So, to summarize the main message on this thread (excluding Big Mart's comments).
1. When we play well, it's because Lyon is such a terrific coach and can do wonders with a dreadful list.
2. When we play badly, it's entirely the players' fault because they weren't following instructions. And, even when the coach clearly gets something wrong (eg, Dempster starting in the forward line) the players are paid well enough that they ought to be able to overcome this.

Lyon......top coach....2011 not a great season by him....I reckon he would agree
Midseason....he admitting to making two big errors
After this game, he openly admitted to having a 'mare'
He also admitted he got 2007 very wrong
He can be a good coach and make mistakes, he must adress our fwd movement and structure

Which is pretty much what Ross said earlier in the year, when they couldn't get a game, something along the lines of "I can continue playing the guys who play their role and are honest players" and went on to say that the transition had begun and he wouldn't.Con Gorozidis wrote:I'm sorry but I'm not going to sit here and read such nonsense. eddy and mcqualter are not part of any era. only two guys retired . both of who had little impact in the last 18 months. just a nonsense thing to say.
Then Bakes found it hard to get back, then Gardi, then Gamble.
It already started this year, he is just officially closing the chapter.
