The criminal legal system requires an acquital if not beyond reasonable doubt. Therefore Lovett does not have to prove innocence but rather that there was a plausable explanation of events which MAY be true.
The victim in this case was drunk and therefore it was always going to be a tough gig to get a guilty verdict.
Lovett's past cannot be bought in unless character comes in to it which they smartly did not bring and he did not even take the stand.
I do not know what happened or if he is inocent or guilty but remember in this case and all others before it Not Guilty does not mean Innocent.
Expect a civil Out of court settlement in the future.
Under our legal system a person is innocent until proven guilty. Lovett was not proven guilty thefore, strictly speaking, he is innocent.
I reckon these words had the biggest effect... 'I thought it was you'.
Anyways people on here are so confused, twisted and blantanly unintelligent they in effect accuse the club of recruiting a rapist. Such are their fortune telling abilities.
Well memo you all. History shows we didn't even sack a rapist.
What annoys / upsets me about this case is that , in the end people never seem to learn anything !
what lovett did was wrong , however lovett had probably done the same thing on many occassions , so thought nothing of it !
A small section of society ( the A crowd ) , of whom i doubt whether any would be reading this website ( i know i shouldn't generalise , let us know if your in it ) get a free ride through some areas of their lives !
There would be many women who are in this crowd , who have been subjected to similiar circumstances or worse , and have let the perpertrators basically get away with it , as they know 9 out of 10 times , charges will not be laid or disproven in court .
Yet there is still an endless supply of these women !
everyone always thinks that these sort of things , carn't happen to them

The A Crowd?
Can you give me a couple of examples of their membership?
Not sure who fits in from your description.
Australia...... Live it like we stole it....... Because we did.

Means jack.
Rapists are often found not guilty.
Anyway Gwilty is injured
What a joke , you post crap !!!
Never Charged you know it all !! FFS
Maybe not enough evidence.
Remember most on here are one eyed and biased.
Speak to a few people and it may shed some light. I'll say no more.
Nice try at a deflection , but as Mark Williams said on grand final day YOU ARE WRONG !!!! Ps speak to who ? you seem to know and I certainley don't as I was not there but no charges equals no charges...
Jack Newnes happy to be a Saint !!!! PS and to hit a target !!!
Andrew Lovett was questioned, charged and tried in court before a jury. That jury found Andrew Lovett "not guilty of rape". STORY ENDED! This topic should now be closed and we get back to all matters St Kilda
Whilst there's a divergence of opinions on this, let's dispel the pussyfooting and bull.
Having heard the evidence as it unfolded, it became painfully obvious that Andrew Lovett was INNOCENT! Forget reasonable doubt! There was quite simply no evidence against him whatsoever and there was actually evidence that the complainant lied.
She alleges she texted an ex whilst being raped. As well as being absolutely non plausible, no text showed up on telephone records. LIAR!
And then there's "I thought it was you Jason....". Say no more.
Shame on the DPP and the Meat Headed Incompetent (or should we say corrupt and Tabloid Headline hunting) Boys in Blue, for ever even bringing this to trial and going a fair way to ruin this man's life. Based on what, their laughable so called evidence.
What has become evident is that there was no rape, not even a skerrick of evidence to suggest there was.
And the St Kilda FC got sucked along for the ride, better start writing a huge cheque to settle the upcoming Unfair Dismissal claim. Our CEO's feeble retorts today, in regard to Lovett's sacking, will not cut it in an unfair dismissal proceeding.

Saints made it clear at the time and again today that he wasn't sacked due to the allegations they have seemed to have covered their tracks.
Also maybe you should look up what the maximum payment of unfair dismiisal payout, which would be less than what the saints have already paid him out last year. So don't expect anything except for some chest beating.
Still glad he is not on our list given some of the testimony mentioned in the trial between other players on our list and Lovett. Don't remembers exactly what was said but I think Gram said Mini told him no one wants him at St Kilda, prob some colourful language in there also.

I'm aware of that, however they are not going to argue that they were entitled to sack him for turning up late to training once.

Wise words as always, Jigster.
It just seems that those who decided he was guilty before the trial are now having a hard time coming to grips with the result.
Irrespective of what any of us think about the man personally, legally he is no more guilty than Milne and Montagna, and should be left to get on with his life.
The continued tripe on here makes us look no better than the Collingwood filth who still chant "Rapist" at Milney.

I agree with some of your comments MMan, however one of the best contract lawyers in the country prepared the payout, and I reckon it would be watertight.
Lovett had debts to pay, employ a defence, and eat as well. No money left to fight the dismissal. Agreed to it of his own free will, but the Saints had him over a barrel.

No doubt about that.
agree
add also her testimony about texting during it.
add also the testimony from her mate and grammy than when they left the room the two were on the bed talking.

They paid him 'go away' money for a reason, if they didn't get it in writing and set in stone that it meant he would stay away, they need to be shot.
