Good Luck Matty - I wish you all the best,
the shuffling of the Dollars maybe?
he has been given 18 months to get it right, and it seems he was just on the edge...

Maybe someone else has offered him better coin already; there is that possibility and in that case you can't really blame anyone. Still, I'd be shattered if the club has cut him outright.
How is Leigh Fisher still on the list, by the way?
He has taken the contracts he has been offerred without question.

I know the paper said we offered Goose a one year deal but i doubt that very much. he would have taken that for sure over a punt on being drafted. Leigh Fisher signe a 2 year deal at the end of 2008.evertonfc wrote:Well I certainly hope we did, it's the least he deserves. Because I doubt Goose would take the risk of not getting picked up when he could already have a one year deal. Obviously no one wanted to trade for him so there must be a doubt on getting a club. I think he probably will though.SainterK wrote:Why would you doubt that?plugger66 wrote:I know the paper said we offered Goose a one year deal but i doubt that very much. he would have taken that for sure over a punt on being drafted. im disappointed. i was thinking of goose as a new recruit and a replacement for blake long term.... but clearly they see it differently...
has this miles guy played a single game?
either
a)goose wants out (might already have deal lined up with another club and him and the club part ways with mutual blessings)
or
b) his medical issues with his legs are substantial

The fact that Matt was not able to break back into the team tells us all was not well after the compartment syndrome.
We picked up 5 fine players in the 2001 draft -
No 2 Luke Ball
No 5 Xavier Clarke
No 13 Nick Dal Santo
No 21 Matt Maguire
No 37 Leigh Montagna
Three have been cut down by injury.
Geelong too picked up 4 fine players and 2 not so good
Father-Son pre selection Gary Ablett
No 8 Jimmy Bartel
No 17 James Kelly
No 23 Charlie Gardiner
No 24 Steve Johnson
No 41 Henry Playfair
None of theirs were cut down by injury, two were traded away voluntarily.

So that could point to the fact that he may have something lined up then, it's not so far fetched really...plugger66 wrote:Because I doubt Goose would take the risk of not getting picked up when he could already have a one year deal. A truly sad day for St Kilda fans when one of our heros can not make it back.

Given he didn't play after Round 11 in 2008 - a season where only twice did he get more than 10 touches - why would he have been given a two-year deal?plugger66 wrote:Leigh Fisher signe a 2 year deal at the end of 2008.
That doesn't make any sense. Next year he turns 26.
I'm not making this stuff up, it's all here: http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/play ... isher.html
Can someone clarify how we gave Leigh Fisher a two-year deal after his 2008 season?
I mean, when you talk about list mangement, it's not exactly prudent, is it? Particularly on a day when the club has squeezed out a favourite son who still had plenty to offer.
Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.
Hey, I didn't say that, did I?evertonfc wrote:Given he didn't play after Round 11 in 2008 - a season where only twice did he get more than 10 touches - why would he have been given a two-year deal?SainterK wrote:Leigh Fisher signe a 2 year deal at the end of 2008.

I'm sure some of the facebook posters don't even go to games. Many of them appear to have absolutely no idea. They should start their own anti Raph group so the rest of us don't have to read the crap whenever there is any club announcement. Whilst an active facebook member, I never post there anymore...don't want to be involved in that rubbish.saint66au wrote:Lovely..the Facebook announcement is already full of "Why is Raph on the list still and we cut Goose"???
Gawd some people should have to sit an exam before being let into games
On Goose - love the Goose and really sad to see him go. Whilst I doubt he would have ever made it back, and would have spent another year as an insurance player. From a club point of view, i would have thought we needed some insurance down back, but for Matt's own sake, its probably best for him to move on. Who knows if anyone will take him though? Interesting that they've left it so late to cut him...
I wonder if it has anything to do with the Luke Ball situation. Still no announcement there..
Good luck Goose - hope someone picks you up and you get another chance...just a pity it won't be at the saints.
