Big call mate!
At this time last year most of us were fairly downbeat about 2009.
Harvs was gone, with no replacement, and we had just lost out/didn't want Benny Cousins.
We looked rooted IMO, even more so after a few dodgy praccy matches in Feb!
Why get excited now?
There’s a high chance it will be a repeat of 97/98...make the GF, lose it and go back to an average side.
although they could do a repeat of 65/66, lose it then win it.
you just never know what to expect being a St. Kilda supporter. That’s why I love the club, one year we are struggling to make the 8 and before we know it we finish 4th, another we win 19 games in a row and don’t win the GF. its all a surprise.
Dools, has that neighbour being souring you with stuffed cats and premiership posters in her window or something....why so glum?
yes she has
and im not glum. i do believe we will win the premiership next year, but i dont want to get all excited and feel as though we will win then come round 22 we are fighting for a top 4 spot and are no real contenders, just a fill in for the 8. trying to keep it on the low and if we win then i go spastic, and if we lose at least i wasnt going mental thinking we would win over summer.
Exactly!
I think we're as much chance for the Flag as any of our top four rivals, but nor do I think we already have it in the can. How many times have we declared that next year will be our year? 98, 06 and 08. I'm having no more of it. People keeping bringing up stats to back up our cause for the Flag and how it's a given that it will be ours next year, Eagles of 94 and 06, Port of 04, Cats 09, etc. But if you listen to stats, you would have said there is no way we could have lost the flag this year!
I was actually quite excited before Round 1, 2009, despite an average pre-season campaign and I feel exactly the same now. Excited, but no more than any other season. I'll let the players give me a reason to be more so, once 2010 begins.
I'm excited about next year. I'mnot saying we'll win the flag, but I'm still excited.
This club has reached the peak of prefessionalism both on and off the field, and I expect the success to continue.
The scary part is that there is still improvement to come from the likes of Joey, Dal, Kosi, Zac, Gilbo, Geary, Jones, Armo, Ray... just to name a few.
If you cannot get excited about this, well...
Enjoy the journey. Worry about the flag is or when we get there.
Hotel De Los Muertos: Your room is ready... Care to step inside?
Yes, get excited about our chances...get excited about Steven, Lynch, Stanley, Walsh...get excited about Ross polishing another couple of discards(?) in Lovett & Peake...get excited about our game plan and watching teams choke when trying to move the ball out of our forward line...and always be excited about Gilbo, Gram, Lenny, Dal, Joey, Fish & BJ with the ball, Roo leading & Kosi crashing packs and Milne and Schneider crumbing and more often than not (don't mention that day) finishing.
Get on board the 2010 express, leaving Moorabbin in March!!!
I'm not naive enough to think we will just waltz along and win it next year. But all things being equal we should be in it up to our necks right up until the business end. How good is it going into a new season expecting a certain level of success. I remember talking to my Dad during the season about going to games this year expecting to win...the only game this wasn't the case for me was the GF. I had a sick feeling that Geelong were going to get it together and they did. I was hopeful but not expectant. Every other match I pretty much expected to win, or better than 50/50 chance. A big change from the early 2000's where we went along every week expecting to lose. A win was a rarity and a surprise...lol. Its great to be in a period of sustained success...albeit not yet the ultimate success.
My two year old has just insisted on watching a saints dvd - "2008 season highlights" He is loving it!! Cheering along...shouting GO SAINTS!!! And I'm enjoying it with him. Can't wait to take him to more saints games next year.
Am I exicited about the Saints in 2010.......you bet!!!!!
