Only came off 3-4 times. The longest break was the last 5-7 mins of the 3rd when he was getting plenty of physio work done on his legs !!hotdish wrote:On Maguire, could anyone judge how he was going for time on ground? Was he coming on and off the ground every 5-10 mins of played the whole game?
I reckon he's a month away from playing seniors; its great to see him back, building both form and fitness!

By the sounds of it, he is playing 70-80% of each game. Good signs. When he can play 85-90% of total game time with good form, he'll be ripe for seniors action. Can't wait until he and Max are back in full flight!!!
Goose probably had a ten minute spell for the entire game......played CHB.....made some errors but generally was dominant (especially in the air) far too big and strong for the VFL.....
X.Clarke.......ball on a string, far too good for the VFL, I think sometimes the game was too slow for him and he hung onto the ball too long waiting for an option.....he cut Casey up. Should be in the seniors, who for - I don't know.
McEvoy.....Good game, the dominant ruckman on the ground.....won the ball around the ground and took some nice grabs, and gave first use.
L.Fisher......has a big body for a VFL midfielder, and uses his strength to advantage, played a very good game.
Begley.....did not have a whole lot to do in the BP, but was OK.
Armitage.....Found the ball at will, strong in the clearances and tackled hard, the second quarter he would have had a dozen plus. He was a bit untidy with the ball at times. He is a very strong at the ball player, possibly lack a yard. I think the casey team were intimidated by him around the ball, having played with him they know haw hard he hits. Would be in the centre square for at least 8 AFL teams.
Heyne......first half he was struggling a bit, a couple of nice touches (one hanger) and then got lost a bit. When Sandy were coasting in the second half he worked his way into the game more often, he tends to kick around his body too much and look to do the special rather than the simple. He has talent, but needs to use it more effectively and consistently. A livewire HF, needs to work on his kicking a bit.
T.Lynch....story of the game IMO. Played as a third fwd and worked tirelessly. He led hard in the first quarter and hardly got rewarded but created space for Sautner to lead into, and when he did get the ball he created, generally by hand. As the game wore on he started burning his opponent off and was being used frequently on the lead. He is definitely a hard-working but smart hit-up forward, and runs to the right places and moves well with the ball well. His lateral movement and clean hands were impressive, but I liked the way he moves without the footy, he creates space and does the team things. I like the way he uses his body in the contest (has short, thick legs and a big bum and a long body). His fitness will get better (he had a poor pre-season) and he needs to speed up his decision making sometimes and clean up his disposal, but overall a lot to like. I would expect him to debut in 09 and be a regular by next year.
Howard.....Ran with a dangerous opponent and towelled him, played his role well and was dangerous offensively.
Maguire....Still a bit rusty, but is above VFL level, he was a tower of strength at CHB. He was moving quite well.
Eddy.....Won loads of the ball, works very hard as a runner, and in the contest. Not the highest skill level, but gives drive.
Miles.....Matched up with Russell Robertson all day, and beat him (although Robbo was short a gallop) he is a very disciplined player with good attributes.
McGrath.....Is a bean-pole (6'9"), won some taps, moved well and got a few touches, a lot of work to do (physically and development wise), but showed something and there is only upside.
Gaertner.....A bit like McGrath. Played BP and went for a few runs with the ball, he kicked it OK which is his biggest critisism. Potential, but is only a project ATM.
Of the Sandy players,.....some of their senior players were awesome (many of them triple premiership player), they led the young saints.
Summers is a GUN VFL player.
Gallagher is a hard running ball magnet.
Sautner is the best FF in the VFL and kicked 8-10.
Biddlecombe is a strong bodied HBF who runs straight at the ball.
Crowe is a very good CHF, should have played more AFL
Numbers #1, #2, #17, #19 all played well aswell.....
If I were a betting man, I would get on Sandy this year....barring injuries we would have to be the strongest VFL line up, surely...
We had Hudhton, Steven, Allen, Dempster, Cahill, Tungalutum, Raph Clarke missing

A very busy day on the board...but very pleasing....starsign wrote:They must have kept you on the go on the scoreboard Zebraman!
Thought the Sandy and St Kilda guys really teamed well today...
I think they would have been inspired by what St Kilda is doing at the moment
Casey were forced into heaps of errors due to the pressure applied to them...they made some terrible decisions under pressure
After watching the St Kilda game on saturday it was like watching a very simillar thing today....
There are plenty of players putting their hand up at Sandy to play for St Kilda...but only injuries and/or suspension will get them a game...that has to be good for St Kilda with that sort of pressure for places in their team
One of the big differences between St Kilda and Melbourrne from a Sandy viewpoint....I used to have a chat to Melbourne players and say to them do your time at Sandy and you'll get a game at Melbourne...can't say that to any St Kilda players as the Saints are a far stronger club than Melbourne...unless there is a spate of injuries there will be a lot of players spending time at Sandy simply because their just are't enough spots at St Kilda....and if they keep playing with nthe same intensity as what was on show today thenn\ it will be a win/win for Sandy and St Kilda
