Article heading : I'll coach you says Buckley

Heading relates to his offer to coach the Tasmanian team in the AFL (!!) and also discusses his future plans:-

"In Hobart to promote his book All I Can Be, Buckley said that once his commentating contract with Channel Seven expired at the end of next season, he would be on the hunt for a coaching position.

"I'd love to get back into the footy environment," said Buckley, who was Collingwood captain for eight seasons.

"I've missed not being involved with a club day-in, day-out. It has been a struggle.

"I've missed the focus of being in a football club and I'm looking forward to getting back involved."

Harvs assistant coach at Collingwood.
Bucks assistant coach at St.Kilda.
And in two years time they swap. I like it.

Should have grabbed Scot Burns .

At least he knows what it's like to get to a grand final .

The word was that seeing Sandy have Lovell as a Coach, Greg Hutchinson will become a fulltime assistant at StKFC so therefore we wont need any newcomers for next season as JB and SOS will stay.

I could handle that. Hutch is a great coach. As for retaining JB... they must see something that I don't.

S.E.N. today had a report that Harvey was talking to Collingwood and Carlton about possible coaching roles for next season.

Harves has had somthing like 7 coaches in his playing career and now a chance to work under Mick at the Pies. You just dont buy that sort of experience.

Great players don't always make great coaches. Why Harves would want to put himself through the wringer again is beyond me - he (and just as importantly his family) deserves some quality free time.
Don't do it Banga.

after being in such a footy environment for 21 years assistant coaching seems like a decent gig that pays 200,000 odd...and still have the time to do the family thing

Budda Hocking
Mark Riccuito
Brad Scott
Greg Williams
Mark Johnson

IMHO this is the type of hardness in midfield coaches we need.
Too many like Dal, Mini, Fiz, get brushed off and are not hard enough at it.
Geelong, Hawks, Brisbane during their reign.
The thing they all had in common is tough hard at it midfielders.

I noticed that Buckley has stated today that Cousins is to great a risk to take on, I wonder if it would sway him against coming to the Saints (and Collingwood for that matter) if he was offered a position?

What a bizarre comment....... I'm almost the same age as Harves, been studying for as long as he's been playing...... and I'll be going off to work again tomorrow... and the next day, and the next..... until I'm gone 65 no doubt. Why does he deserve the quality free time any more than me, or you or the next person.....?

Having the ability to play or be involved football for a living is a gift, one that Robert Harvey clearly cherishes...... he doesn't put himself and his family "through the wringer". He loves it.

Let's get a bit of perspective here, doing it tough is raising 3 kids as a single mum, or doing two jobs to help pay for your kids education..... anyway, you get my drift....

Did you ever see Ross Lyons play? He was as hard as any of them.

good good call. im a huge fan of thie guy. super player. great leader. respcted by all. and one of the true hard tough men. remember when josh carr tried to fight him in the aelaide car park and roo just demolished him.
would be a massive bonus to have him in our camp.

I believe he was a St Kilda supporter as a kid also.

Never liked him as a player however if we are able to lure any proven leaders to the club then I'm all for it.

Would our forward line then be called 'The Shunting Yard'?
