if we want to be contenders we must win. it is as simple as that.

ao losing is not an option.
Easier said than done though if you dont have your best cattle on the park
we've won finals within the past five years with injury/suspension lists that looked a whole lot worse.

sure, we'd look better with max and ball out there, but injuries are a fact of life. every team gets them ... it's not as though they're unique to st kilda.

crisis creates opportunity, as they say, and ball's injury is a chance for someone to step up, as gwilt did yesterday.
First of all this is not 5 years ago and the list is nowhere near what it was. Secondly we lost 4 of the 6 finals we played in, that's not a great record in my book, so lets not start about how great we played with injuries years ago

Pies don't have their best cattle on the park either, so we need to overcome it.

Bally is about as big a loss as they come though...

OK, fair point. Let's just say that we have finished top 4 with injury lists far worse than we have now.

btw. this is not, nor was ever intended to be, a Lyon v GT thread. just the statement of a simple fact ... this week is his biggest test as coach.

as close as he's been to a final while at the helm of an AFL club. played at the MCG in a finals-type atmosphere before (one would think) a massive crowd.

the loser can just about kiss their chances of being a premiership contender goodbye.

i'm sure that ross would consider this match a big test, both for himself and his men. if he doesn't then we need a new coach.
