In our last 2 games against the two teams who now are still unbeaten after 4 rounds Gehrig kicked one goal from a free kick and practically never touched the ball again against Footscray and today his opponent had 18 possessions half way through the third quarter and ended up being close to best man on the ground. Okay then let's not worry about those stats and keep playing him week after week.

Scarlett would have done the exact same thing no matter who he played onThe Sainter wrote:In our last 2 games against the two teams who now are still unbeaten after 4 rounds Gehrig kicked one goal from a free kick and practically never touched the ball again against Footscray and today his opponent had 18 possessions half way through the third quarter and ended up being close to best man on the ground. We shouldn't drop goose - he's just getting back into the swing of things.
If I were coach, and I'm not, I'd tweak the team a bit
Out: Fiora (fringe quality), dempster (fringe quality), and gilbert (need more shorter runners).
In: Armitage, Schneider, and Charlie Gardiner.
Gram and X. Clarke get a warning for form.
While M. Gardiner's not playing, we make Kosi second ruck and C. Gardiner plays as a leadup forward, with Reiwoldt closer to goal. M/ Gardiner to displace C. Gardiner again when he's back, with Kosi heading forward again.
So this week:
Tall Backs: Hudgton, Maguire, S Fisher (all high-grade players)
Small backs: L Fisher, Goddard, Gram (all high-grade, all can play midfield)
Ruckmen: King/Kosi (one on the bench, one rucking)
onball/centreline: Hayes, Ball, Dal Santo, Montagna, X. Clarke (a pretty good lineup)
Big Forwards: Gehrig, Reiwoldt, C. Gardiner (2 high-grade players, and Gardiner's OK
Small Forwards: Milne, Schneider, C. Jones (Milne/Schneider are high-grade small forwards, and I like Clinton Jones.
Bench: King/Kosi, Blake (utility/midfield), Armitage (mid), Harvey (mid)
On paper, we've got a great side. I just hope we start to put it together like we're capable of.

Blindly delusional optimist. Fan of the Blake.

I agree....CJ busted his guts and did some decent possession work at times.The_Dud wrote:you MUST be kidding.....Saint_in_SA wrote:Out: C. Jones - clearly can't use it unfortunately
At least he can both run and have a dip, more than can be said for many of our players, but then again, he's not one of Rossy's favourite players, which may count against him.
I'm expecting the usual 2 changes, and a slow, tired team on Friday night.

not taking into account possible injuries from this game;
in: M Gardiner, Schneider (if one of them doesn't come up, then Armitage and/or Geary)
out: Blake, Fiora
have been a fan of both Blake and Fiora, but they have to be at the bottom of the list, was very disappointed with Blake at one stage went he didn't put his body on the line to cut off a pass into the Geelong forward line

OUT:
Dal Santo - Should get a massive kick up the arse post match that keeps him out for a week, and scares him into actually running during the game so no one can do it again.
Dempster - Completely useless.
Jones - Good for one tackle, a one-percenter per, 5-6 fumbles and 2-3 direct turnovers per game. Not up to it.
Blake - Has gone backwards. Unless he is playing at his absolute best he shouldn't get a game.
IN:
Armitage - He's got skill, he gets plenty of the ball, he kicks goals and he's got a bit of mongrel. Was playing great footy in the NAB cup and should have been in the side in round one.
Geary - Will be a quality player for us for many years and should not have been dropped
M.Gardiner - Our best ruckman
C.Gardiner - Allows Riewoldt to play closer to goal since Kosi clearly should move to defence
We really aren't that good, but this side should be able to beat a depleted Essendon
B: Maguire, Hudghton, Geary
HB: L.Fisher, S.Fisher, Koschitzke
C: Gram, Hayes, X.Clarke
HF: Armitage, Riewoldt, C.Gardiner
F: Milne, Gehrig, Ball
Foll: M.Gardiner, Montagna, Goddard
Int: Gilbert, Fiora, Harvey, King
It's very early, but some changes at the end of the year will be welcome
OUT: Gehrig, Harvey, Jones, Dempster, Rix, Ferguson, Gwilt
IN: Pace, skill

Gram has been shocking this season. Should be dropped for a week or two.
Armo is knocking on the door of the seniors.
Schneider and M Gardiner should come back, C Gardiner is on the right track.
Geary close.
Players who could be dropped this week are: Gram, Fiora, Gehrig
Possible Injuries: Fisher, Harvey, Clarke?

I thought Gram did enough in the last quarter to save his spot. He definitely went up a level and was one of our best few late in the game. And we will need all the pace in defence we can get against Essendon. The likes of Leigh Fisher and Blake sure as hell can't keep up with Davey and Lovett.n1ck wrote:Gram has been shocking this season. Should be dropped for a week or two.

Only thing is I would bring in charlie for gehrig. Would love to see birss or stevens get a go for their grit, hard ball winning ability and goal scoring.

Out: Blake, Fizz Harves (injured)
In: M Gards (if fit), Charlie and Armo
If Armo is right then we need him in and under! Jones has to stay disposal may not be much but his attack and intensity keep him in! Charlie could be used as a decoy for our forwards he can run hard and present maybe take G out for the week for a rest - Not saying he was our worst!
Blake needs to get back to the magoos for a touch same with fizz...both just dont seem to have any impact whatsoever. Harves needs the week off at least to recover we need to manage him more carefully!
M Gardiner if fit needs to come back immediately! His absence in the ruck has been noticable, hell if he is not ready i would throw Macca into the team. No use having these top ten draft picks and not giving them a game if they are standing up!
I will get shot down for this but it might be an idea to rest Roo, hell anybody can see that he is not 100% fit!

On paper it looks a very good team and difficult to see why we haven't been winning games.
goose's return gives us a very strong spine and in my team the two best physical, contested marks in the side are at chb and chf.
i think gilbert to a hff is a winner and having him and kosi nearby will take immense pressure off riewoldt.
not ready to dispense with gehrig yet. scarlett tends to towell up most opponents. best defender in the league by a long way imo and if he hadn't been on gehrig he would have played on riewoldt or kosi.
as i've said in other posts i think our biggest problem atm is we are to focussed on what our opponents are doing and not focussed enough on winning the ball and making the play.
we should take a leaf from geelong's book and go on the front foot.

Not only did Gehrig fail to make an impact on the game, his opponent was BOG. As a forward, that's inexcusable.Sobraz wrote:SPOT ON... i cant stand it when posters blame G for losses... Any forward these days is only as good as their midfield supply... The forward entries ae rubblish at the moment, and that makes life very hard for G, Roo, Kos etc...
I'm not willing to write him off on that performance though. Still plenty of coal left in the ol' G-Train.
