The club would know there would be speculation, so why not just issue a media release saying that Saints games record-holder Robert Harvey will announce his retirement at a press conference tomorrow?

It's not like you're letting the cat out of the bag, news media will speculate anyway.

I think he will announce, James Hird style, that 2008 will be his final season.

We would need a first round draft pick as well, surely.

Correct.....the media would know.....

They'd rather make us think hes retiring.....

I believe he will announce it will be his last year in 2008

The jornos once they founf out ...did not nominate fro GF retired players
parade.......

came to a conclusion he would play on based on his non -appearence

If you went by his speech at testimonial HE was going to retire this year

he was 90-95%

The fact he did not prior to last game meant he was still unsure or just wanted to aviod a HIRD lkie send off.

I hope it is to announce that 2008 will be his last year to get the HIRD type send off

but that is from a selfish point of view.....may I say the same for all sainters.

The press probably driving him and his manager mad today.....

flushed him out either way

lets hope it is to continue.

I am running on a platform of all board members to be pissed as chooks at all St.Kilda functions, and free recreational and/or performance enhancing drugs to all players officials and supporters.

I will fund the new spending by selling the city of Cranbourne to the highest (and if it is a club function, that will be all of us) bidder.

I will also canvas all King St nightclubs and lapdancing bars to get onboard as our new sponsors and have Kevin07 as our new patron and No.1 ticket holder.

I will submit all my costing to Andrew Demetriou only on the proviso that he

a) gets on the hootch

b) the winner of the St.Kilda raffle gets one free punch to the face of Adrian Anderson.

Slogan - Get on board for the ride of your life with the new messiah, or burn (kinda catchy I reckon).

To unify the club. I will ask Grant Thomas back as assistant coach to Ross Lyon.

Ross can take credit for any win and Thommo can take responsibility for all losses.

Sounds a goer to me.

Send proxies to either me or Nathan Burke (I am really Greg Westaway)

I'm in on all that joffa! That is a big goer.

The platform ideas that swung me were:
1. punching Adrian Anderson
2. buying Cranbourne so I can evict crannypete
3. punching Adrian Anderson
4. No Rod Butterss mentioned
5. Performance enhancing drugs - god knows I need them!
6. did I mention Adrian Anderson?

New media campaign for Riewoldt "he's not the messiah, he's just a very naughty boy".

I have no idea what he will announce but having heard from Harvs for 20 years it seems strange he would have a press conference to announce he will be playing. I hope I am wrong as deserves a great send off.

I've always had an awful feeling that the year after Harvs goes we will win a flag ...

:?

Pray it isn't true.

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

Hmm, its odd for Harvey to say he will not be in the retirees parade on grand final day. And now he is holding a press conference? Very odd for him to go to the measure of holding a press conference but not wanting to be in the thing where they get a farewell at the MCG.
It would be vintage Harvey if this was the case though. I'm also getting bad vibes about this, I really hope that I'm wrong.

Announcing that it is his final season is far from selfish

Allows the club to trade for 2009 and beyond in the knowledge he will not be there
Allows fans to come to terms with his retirement and to make the effort to get to games in 2008
Boosts 2008 membership
Spurs the playing group on to put in a big pre-season ... because 2008 is the big one

My gut tells me he is going on

Sounds good to me!

Club is always bigger than the player ... Harvs would be the first to tell you that

West Coast fans would be the second

I think the selfish bit came from posters saying they want him to play on

We the supporters being selfish not HARVES

When did Hird / Archer announce that 2007 would be their last? I kinda thought it was after Pre-season training had started. It seems very early to be making the "playing on" call..and not Harvs style. A word to RL and the team then a press release has done him in the past.

I pray that he's just putting the rumour mill to rest and saying that hes up for one more but just one more...but..like a few on here..I have a real feeling that he might be hanging up the boots.
