Re: Women's AFL
I dont go to under 12s and expect jr's, I dont go to vfl & expect afl.
Same game, different level, same effort & passion for Aussie rules given.
That said our lack of depth, poor skills & injuries has delivered a rubbish season after R3. I was gutted.
We have a very poor depth of players & it shows.
The league is quite young as well with minimal player depth. Not sure itll change too rapidly either, so a team that drafts & trades gaining 2-3 key players can dominate.
We have 1 star, 4 good, 1 decent, the rest show up to pull on the socks, so there's that.

Re: Women's AFL
Jaimee Lambert is a gun but is in her 30s
Wardlaw is a powerful big athlete but not a natural footballer
Tyanna Smith is a very good player and fit as fk
Patrikios is very good, fast and can play
Ash Richards is a very good mark as a medium forward
Serene Watson, Hannah Priest, Grace Kelly, Darcy Gutteridge and Molly McDonald are ok players
Trudgeon is an ok key defender
Ruck is a big problem
Vessely tries hard but is only average as is Simpson and Burke
Anderson is tough and promising young player but still has a way to go
Two class midfielders and a ruckman short
It’s funny
Their are at least 10 ex saints running around with other teams who are playing great footy
Whitford and Bohana, Poppy Kelly, Shirlaw, Grieser, Drenan, Lucas Rodd, White
And I know why a few left

Re: Women's AFL
I actually think, coached with a more attacking game style and 1 more good mid
They could perform a lot better
Lambert with her ball use and smarts should be played 50% forward and 50% mid
I also think Wardlaw should be played like Joe Daniher and Luke Jackson 50% forward and 50% mid
B: Burke/Plane - Trudgeon
HB: Priest - Watson - xxxxx
C: McDonald - Smith^ - Kelly
HF: Gutteridge - Richards - Patrikios^
F: Xenos* - Wardlaw
Foll: xxxxx - xxxxx - Lambert*
Int: Anderson - Simpson - Vessely - xxxxx
Emerg: Whylie - Fiedler
So
They need a running back who kicks it well
A bigger bodied inside mid
A mature ruckman
An outside mid/HF
Problem is
They need talent from the draft and can’t afford to give up draft capital
But they need some mature bodies with ability- and clubs don’t give them away

Re: Women's AFL
I think I prefer watching women's netball than women's AFL. It's much more entertaining and less frustrating. A big problem women's AFL has is that the grounds are too large for them. The boundaries should be brought in by 20m, they should play without wings and the rules should be simplified for them. Eliminate throw ins - have the last touch rule and simplify the umpiring rules. They should all wear head gear. There's no need for them to mimic the men's game. They are not skilled or capable enough. Make Laura Kane the CEO of the women's game and move her out of the men's competition. She's not competent enough yet. Allow her to learn in a less demanding environment.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: Women's AFL
I just found out, to great surprise, that the women play with a smaller size football.
Maybe do the old VFL thing and don't play wingers and do the cricket thing and bring boundary ropes in at each goal end. Play 6 6 6 for each stoppage.

Re: Women's AFL
You mean 5-6-5.
They also don’t play with as many on the ground. (Extended bench of 5 players I think)
Definitely makes it harder to get the ball from one end to the other when there is less player to make links in the chain.

Re: Women's AFL
Just bring in the same rule as the u18s
Density rule
It will open up play, and help with scoring
Dal is ridiculous with his team defence- 15/16 players behind the ball is ridiculous

Re: Women's AFL
I've been saying from the get-go we should never have appointed Dal Santo. He's not a coach. He doesn't have a clue. Classic jobs for the boys. The reason our women's team is shithouse is that the club gave them to him as a toy for him to play with. In all honesty, how dare they. If they're determined to give him a job, give him something he knows how to do. Modelling the sportswear?

Re: Women's AFL
How do you know he cannot coach? Have you seen him firsthand? Do you know some of the players that have played under him? Or are you basing your opinion purely on our results? It appeared after round three he was doing a really good job.freely wrote: ↑Fri 08 Nov 2024 2:32am I've been saying from the get-go we should never have appointed Dal Santo. He's not a coach. Re: Women's AFL
Didn't follow closely, but wasn't there a number of close losses, some just a point and through cruel bounces? The women always seemed to try hard for the coach.

Re: Women's AFL
I don't think it'll matter who the coach is, if they don't have some decent list churn.
Any of Starcevich, Crocker or Clarke couldn't get this list into a finals series.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

I've seen his lack of game plan first hand for three years. Would you put up with his try harder rubbish if it were the men's team?Moods wrote: ↑Fri 08 Nov 2024 10:39amHow do you know he cannot coach? Have you seen him firsthand?
