Re: Crab watch
Billings has indeed been quite good.
It's been enlightening watching him play for another team. His big drawbacks are that he doesn't make any sort of a physical impact on the game with either strength or speed and, while his skill levels are quite good, he doesn't have anything in his bag of tricks that can rip a game apart. In short, he's good without being great. Perhaps he'll improve a bit if he can stay in the Demons first team for a while and he can get back some of the confidence that I suspect Lyon knocked out of him.
It's a pity that we let him go, but there was really nothing left for him at our club.

I said at the end of last year, I’d have liked to have seen 2 of Dmac, Jones and Billings go as they all seem injured all the time.
My choice would have been Billings who may have started with us opposed to Jones who lacks some class and starts the season at Sandy.
Watch this space I guess

Re: Crab watch
Pretty unfair to blame Lyon for any perceived lack of confidence. Jack hadn't had a good year with us since about 2019, well before Lyon arrived. Yes he was gifted games and playing in the seniors. All Lyon did was stop that nonsense and made him earn a game.meher baba wrote: ↑Sun 17 Mar 2024 3:43pm Billings has indeed been quite good.

As Vortex would say, we need a bigger sample size before we start eating that humble pie.whiskers3614 wrote: ↑Sun 17 Mar 2024 3:41pm To all the Billings haters
go and have a look at his stats today.
I did note that he didn't impact the scoreboard and MB stated that whilst he played well he wasn't exactly doing anything extraordinary. Obviously finding space well and providing a link. He'll need a few more tricks because if he keeps this form up opposition will be paying him far closer attention. That's when we'll find out whether he's changed his ways.

Re: Crab watch
So, when Phillipou was being selected ahead of Billings to play pretty much the same role in some key late season games, that was because Phillipou had “earned” those games?Moods wrote: ↑Sun 17 Mar 2024 4:20pmPretty unfair to blame Lyon for any perceived lack of confidence. Lyon plays favourites: always has, always will. And once he takes a set against a player, they can never overcome it. This happened to Billings. I suspect it’s happening now to Jones.
It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it’s pretty devastating for the player who is affected by it.
Sometimes I suspect that picking on a particular player in this way is a cunning strategy on the part of Lyon to make all players in the team realise that none of them are invulnerable and, if they won’t/can’t play the way Lyon wants them to play, their career at the club could be over.

His strength
Kicking i50
Our weakness
Kicking i50
How ironic
Having said that, he gave good service to the saints, was undervalued by Ross and is now at a better team playing a role
Good luck to him

Re: Crab watch
Dogs are a nice side. Let's see him when it's hot. He would have been roughed up by Geelong, no wings to hide in. Of course skilful but easily negated.Unless he did MMA course over summer.

Re: Crab watch
So he picked on him by not selecting him? And that made jack lose his confidence even though when he was selected he was playing poorly? I heard injuries and lack of pre season and every excuse under the sun as to why he couldn’t perform.meher baba wrote: ↑Sun 17 Mar 2024 4:48pmSo, when Phillipou was being selected ahead of Billings to play pretty much the same role in some key late season games, that was because Phillipou had “earned” those games?Moods wrote: ↑Sun 17 Mar 2024 4:20pmPretty unfair to blame Lyon for any perceived lack of confidence. I guess in the end, a young player was gifted those games instead. Do I agree? Not necessarily, but there’s not a coach in the world that doesn’t have favourites

Re: Crab watch
Ross has cut his nose of to spite his face many times
This is just another example
JB proved today - as he did on numerous occasions with STK he is a quality AFL HF
Today he’ll get Brownlow votes, as he did a number of times before.
HFs that average 20ppg and a goal are pretty rare
Put it this way
Phillipou averaged 12 and half a goal last year and played 24 games. That’s being gifted games.
Billings papers were stamped pre season last year
Jones have been this year
He Farked up with Luke Ball
He Farked up with Matt DeBoer
He Farked up with Andrew Lovett
He Farked up with Harley Bennell
He makes some poor calls, that is fact

Re: Crab watch
Luke ball I’d dispute. Of course Ross isn’t perfect himself and you coach as many games as he has, there’s going to be clear errors along the way.B.M wrote: ↑Sun 17 Mar 2024 8:57pm Ross has cut his nose of to spite his face many times

I certainly don’t think he farked up on Billings, he’s done nothing in 4 years and was on good coin

Re: Crab watch
Never doubted Billings' ability but also never thought he really looked the part in the red, white and black. From the moment he was drafted he looked like his heart wasn't really in it. I wish him well but I'm glad he's not playing for us. I don't think he'd ever have given us heart and soul.

Let's see how he goes in a few big games against higher quality opposition. A front runner's front runner is Jackie B.whiskers3614 wrote: ↑Sun 17 Mar 2024 3:41pm To all the Billings haters

Billings might go better playing outside a bull like Petracca.
That was never going to happen at our club, was it?

Re: Crab watch
Highest ranked player in a premiership calibre team.
But not good enough to get a game at the Saints
“Yeah but he’s soft” - also a team high 5 tackles.
There’s a history of this happening!

Re: Crab watch
Bulldogs aren’t a good team
AA Ruckman
Best player in the comp
10M key forward
JUH the most desirable player OOC in the AFL
Liberatore
They were Grand Finalists 2 years ago
McCrae can’t get a game
Daniel can’t get a game
The dogs are a fk load better than us imo

Re: Crab watch
Billings couldn’t get a game last year because
Butler, Higgins and Gresham were preferred and none were injured at all
And Ross only saw him as a small forward
Watched him at Sandy - He was batting with his dick at that level

Re: Crab watch
I didn't think he was that good. Henry is a big upgrade based on his performance at Geelong.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.
