Re: Arie Schoenmaker
Well if those rumours are true, it's pretty damning on his character. If it is common knowledge in AFL circles, he'll need to pull his head in from day one with us. If our players are aware of his alleged bullying, then it could be an awkward and uneasy situation for them, which I think is worrying.
He will soon learn that Ross will only accept professionalism and hard work, and he will get no respect from his team mates if he doesn't show some maturity or humility.
I know some on here think we have been focussed on choirboys for the past 10 years, but believe me, character really counts

Re: Arie Schoenmaker
To answer my own question
Nothing
St Kilda already possessed a 5th round pick 72 going into the draft
It became pick 62 after Gold Coast passed twice and Essendon, Richmond, Carlton, Collingwood, West Coast, Sydney passed once and academy or father son queue jumping removed the other 3
So despite all the early queue jumping pick 72 became pick 62.
Using this pick so late only Geelong picked a mature age recruit and Brisbane made one final pick.
It could be considered a pre-emptive pick ahead of the rookie draft so don't expect St Kilda to actually make a pick in the rookie draft.
Instead the final place on the lists will go to a train on player via a supplemental selection.

Charlie Curnow was linked to Melbourne at pick 3, and Essendon at picks 4 & 5, even Carlton at picks 8 & 11.Scollop wrote: ↑Tue 21 Nov 2023 11:02pm The last talented draft prospect that I remember was misbehaving before his draft year ended up a star, even though he was a dhead junior

Carlton finally took him at pick 30.
Yes pick 30 so talent available to every club
Now every club knows who the real d**kheads were - their recruiting teams.
A player may be a d**khead but that d**khead is one of your players.
Get over him being a d**khead and watch his football.
I am sure Carlton fans watching their d**khead play makes them smile.

Lol half of our list has probably done worse. What a joke.TheGreatZacsby wrote: ↑Tue 21 Nov 2023 9:39pmThe rumour is he bullied a disabled kid and the victim posted about it online on reddit. We don’t know if it’s true, or if it’s this high school drama bulldust that kids these days do or it’s genuinely true. Plus the under gage drinking thing at the camp. It’s made a lot of clubs turned off from him.
But BigFooty has a lot of rival club forumites came in and congratulated us. They say he’s a generational talent likened to Sicilly and that no one was bold enough to take him because of the above issues despite his amazing talent. So we did well. Same can be said about Collard.
Collard apparently got issues to like big Go Home Factor, hangs out with the wrong crowd etc.
I prefer taking the risk than the vanilla Jack newnes Nanny boy bulldust we use to trade for. Toce, SOS and Gubby know what they are doing. Toce especially.
We all went WHO IS WILKIE? He’s become a star of the club. I reckon Garcia/Hastie will be one of the those.

The underage one feels like a bit of a beat up without more details.
Many kids start fooling around with alcohol well before 18 and plenty more have bought booze for friends or friends of friends after they turned 18. Am not condoning it by any means but am certainly not going to write off a youngster for that indiscretion.

Re: Arie Schoenmaker
Culture at the club is critical to our long term success.
Character in players helps them stay committed & focussed...
But we've lacked lads with a healthy mindset AND a bit of mongrel.
Baker was brilliant, give ya the shirt off his back...but he'd rip ya tits off as well if he deemed it necessary for a win...we need that.

Memo to recruiting department.
If you want another steal at next year's draft, spread a rumour online that the bloke got intimate with a goat.

My post wasn't looking to highlight that Arie is a dhead. I don't know the kid...same as I don't know Curnow...or De Goey or Dustin Martin
All misbehaved as teenagers...but we know what they're capable of on the field
Dusty Martin, Charlie Curnow, Arie Shuey
Fingers crossed

Re: Arie Schoenmaker
Epitome of a slider.
Late first early second round talent taken with a throw away pick.
I agree with other posters, we probably weren’t going to use that pick but saw Schoenmaker was still available and thought he was too talented to not grab him.
Even if the rumors are true, I’m not going to hand a 17 yo out to dry, educate and nurture him.
He COULD be an absolute steal in this draft.
He can really kick the ball.

Could be a very handy player going forward. Let's hope those angelic, holier than thou people who are bringing up rumours of his supposed discretions at school, will cheer him on when he plays in winning Saints teams.

He was a steal
I don’t care if he was shooting ketamine up his arse as a 17yo
If he ends up a Sam Gilbert - giddy up

Re: Arie Schoenmaker
I had a friend pronounced his name:ace wrote: ↑Tue 21 Nov 2023 9:32pm Me suspects they did not intend to take 5 picks but when they realised that Schoenmaker was still on the board they pounced.
In German the "E" immediately after the "O" indicates there should be an umlaut on the O converting the sound to "ur" as in Danke Schoen, the Sch sound like "sh"
so in German sounds like Shurnmarker but usually anglicized as Showenmaker
Sk-on-mocker. It was odd. He was a german immigrant, only here a few weeks when we first met. I wondered if it was his accent trying to say english? Or my ears?

Agree with the aboveace wrote: ↑Tue 21 Nov 2023 9:40pm That makes 37 senior players plus 2 rookie B and 4 rookie A for a total of 43 players.
The club is now limited to 1 more rookie A
I suspect they decided to grab Schoenmaker in the main draft than let him go into the rookie draft where St Kilda would miss him.
That probably means they will not take anyone in the rookie draft saving the last rookie A position for a train-on supplemental selection.
McKenzie would hope that would be him, other train-on players would want that place but what is the status of the Sandringham rookie agreement.
No rush now and as passed on next pick there is no one else specifically they want at this stage.
If McKenzie comes up bonus, if not options aplenty

Clubs were massively put off by Jack Darling's apparently loose behaviour as a junior too. Can't think WCE wouldn't have liked that info getting out about him.
