Re: Saints draft rated
If Billings never plays another game BM will still be recalling this in 10 years.

Re: Saints draft rated
And if he does, will you?
Billings has already played 155
Will play 200+
It smacks of the Luke Ball trade
The problem was not trading him out - the problem was what we got for him!
Like Ball, Billings will be significant in Melbourne’s push for a flag
Ask yourself, why would a better team trade him?!
Because he was great value for a pack of twisties and getting paid by someone else! He’s played 155 games and averages 20ppg has fished top 5 in the B&F - to suggest he cannot play is ridiculous

Re: Saints draft rated
He is not in our or Melbourne's best 22. The consensus from the whole competition is clear. He is a write off. He will need 6 more years to scrape in 200. Pffft. We paid half his salary because it's likely he will not play this year.B.M wrote: ↑Sat 21 Oct 2023 9:47am And if he does, will you?

By 2025 he will have missed 5 preseasons and retire.
Like Dunstan and McCartin he will disappear into obscurity.

Perhaps Melbourne are at a different place to us right now?B.M wrote: ↑Sat 21 Oct 2023 9:47am And if he does, will you?

Melbourne as you say are trying to win a flag next year.
We're trying to build a list that allows us a sustained push to win one ourselves, knowing next year is likely not the year.
I feel like you're the sort of bloke who could find himself in a great family, financial and health position and then still complain that you're not Chris Hemsworth.

Wonder how we’d be now if the club had the gonads to trade the following after 2018?

Re: Saints draft rated
We added a couple of guys who have the potential to make our midfield better , and who both do kick an occasional goal.
Lost a goal kicking forward with a quick step but questionable field kicking.
Lost a 2nd round pick next year, gained an end of first round pick this year.
Lost some Sandy depth players.
Feels like a B- right now, but if Dow and Henry still have some improvement in them then yes we could look back at this as a steal in future years.

Re: Saints draft rated
IF Billings is such a gun, why was it not until the final moments of the Trade Window that he was "snapped" up by Melbourne, noting St Kilda are to continue to pay some of his contracted salary?
Also noting that it was during the season that his Manager put him on the market
And noting there are 18 teams in the Competition, no other team entering into negotiations to attract Billings to their Clubs.
So who were Melbourne competing against for Billings' signature?
It must have been fierce competition, including upping what St Kilda were paying Billings to get his signature.
Billings did play some fine games, kicking goals in a second half v WB and showing courage - but how many Brownlow votes did he get so how many games where he was among the BOG and influenced the result (apart from the WB game)?
And on Ball, he may have played in a Collingwood premiership side, but from early days due to OP he was a hack - and not clean with his hands as an inside mid.
Ball just could not provide what Lyon required - so pace and spread.
And, when he was fit he played some very good footy (Geelong at Geelong one such game) then went missing due to recovery time.
Whilst speaking of Geelong games, Ball was found out in the game v Geelong where we both went in undefeated and his papers were marked.
