Re: Bytel Injury
I guess we will find out about Jones and Billings when the side is selected tomorrow night. I don't think it's at all surprising that neither player went to Perth last weekend, if you find that surprising I'd be interested to hear why.
How exactly has Bytel been fkd around?

Re: Bytel Injury
He has been unfairly judged without being given a decent opportunity at senior level. Made the sub in Rounds 4 - 5 and again 8 - 9.lewdogs wrote: ↑Wed 05 Jul 2023 1:30pmI guess we will find out about Jones and Billings when the side is selected tomorrow night. At one stage we had Jack Steele out with his broken collar bone and instead of bringing in like for like (midfielder for midfielder) they brought in an extra defender. This was all at a time when Bytel was knocking down the door with outstanding form at Sandrigham
It’s not like our mids were in ripping form in May either? Why did other players (mids) get to retain their spot with just 12 or 15 touches in a whole game?

Re: Bytel Injury
He has been on the list for three years with two coaches who both seem to think he isn't good enough. He had a chance to go to basically any AFL team at the end of last year for free and no one wanted him.Josh Battle wrote: ↑Wed 05 Jul 2023 2:15pmHe has been unfairly judged without being given a decent opportunity at senior level. Maybe there's another possibility which is he isn't good enough for the level. Like many that have gone before and many more to come.

Re: Bytel Injury
Has Bytel ever been afforded a good run at it?
Byrnes has - and is not as good a player imo

Re: Bytel Injury
This is a question that was asked of Ratten too. I think you will find that injury and back luck have played their part.
He is the last survivor of the emergency and rehab wards Richo and Co were building before the DFC can along.

Re: Bytel Injury
There's no way Bytel could do what Byrnes has done at times this season. Byrnes has been a running winger, not setting the world on fire but doing a job.
And when Byrnes goes back to the 2s (probably this week) he will get huge numbers just like Bytel.

Re: Bytel Injury
Could Hill have been used on the wing?
Windhager at HF/mid
Seb Ross Int/Wing
Bytel inside mid
The is a clear misnomer that Bytel can’t run - he lost 5kg blew his 3k time out of the water pre season. His inside work is very good - but he finds it on the outside a lot like Ross and Crouch

Re: Bytel Injury
There's always a bloke like Bytel in the squad that everyone thinks should come in and he'll be amazing. You're saying we should change around the structure of the team to fit Bytel in.B.M wrote: ↑Wed 05 Jul 2023 8:10pm Could Hill have been used on the wing?

The coaches watch this guy train each week, they analyse his game closely each week, they deem that he isn't going to be able to help the side to win and don't select him. Are they a bunch of idiots? I just don't get how people so often bag the coaches because of not selecting some bloke but then almost every time the player gets de-listed and plays VFL or worse.
We're not a bottom six side right now where we may as well throw the magnets around and look at players. We are playing a game on Saturday night that if we win we go fourth.

See what happens next year, I expect a big shift in the list, the best 22, and playing positions.

Re: Bytel Injury
Why wait till next year? To mix things up??
Ross said
The midfield is spluttering and they are looking for the right combination
How about try the best player in the twos, give him opportunities and if he’s not up to it - delist him!
Don’t watch him go to another club and thrive - without getting an opportunity at StK
Year of exploration
I hate pigeon holing

Re: Bytel Injury
Let’s assume this ‘exploration’ meme is one hundreds percent literal and not some media fluff for a moment.
Now, ‘exploration’ doesn’t mean trying out every player in the seconds in every position in the firsts when premiership points are in the table.
Maybe, it means testing every system in the organization and pushing it to the limit, seeing where it cracks
Including, each and every week, choosing the absolute best possible combination of players, according to the strictest possible objective measures, that are needed to give us the absolute best chance of snatching the precious 4 points.
This idea of, ‘give him a go’ or ‘he/she deserves a crack’ - save that for the amateur leagues.
Now that doesn’t preclude these other non-competitive prerogatives - commercial (play in New Zealand or Cairns to make some $ ), political (make the players listen to speeches, do this or that before games) these things are other problems
BTW I loved our indigenous jumper last week and intend to buy one!

Re: Bytel Injury
Media fluff???
It was Ross who stated it in the media - a number of times
Whilst Bytel is dominating VFL he has not been explored fully at AFL level to see if he can play at the level yet
He has shown glimpses
I’d like to see him play some games to find out one way or another
Particularly because the midfield is ‘spluttering

Bytels best chances of moving on, will probably be not getting a game.B.M wrote: ↑Thu 06 Jul 2023 3:42pm Media fluff???

He is miles off competing with Crouch Steele or even Ross and while he is close to to top 10 in endurance running, you will find Hill Wood and Byrnes are at the sharp end of the list and Jack has only clocked more than 80% game time once.
You really wouldn't want him running off half back and i don't think he would be much of a forward, he certainly doesn't stand out in that regard.
He used to have a penetrative kick as a jnr, I reckon that is gone, but it was erratic anyway and although he isnt the worst kick in the team, you wouldn't think disposal is a strength.
So, he is a good VFL player. Not a dominant VFL player.
He has 2 modes, see ball - get ball - quickly dispose of ball or tackle. He is a slow inside footballer. There just isn't much to explore.

Lol.
Inaccurate, which part?
Lazy, what does that even mean?
He will make it - or he won't
Perhaps Sydney - that guess is as good as any I suppose.

I think his papers are stamped but still think he's been hard done by.
