Re: JB’s future at Moorabbin
Being poorly handled
Like Windhager
Wouldn’t surprise me if Gresham, Billings and Clark were all elsewhere in 24
It’s what we do
Take 3 first round picks - ruin their careers and turn them into 3rd rounders - who end up GOPs Or Delisted

Re: JB’s future at Moorabbin
I think Gresham and Billing’s will have their bags packed for them…for a price
9 years on the list….let’s not start the “poor JB….lack of opportunities” nonsense

Well, we did draft him instead of Bontempelli

It’s also the title of a pretty good song by the New York band (actually, they had an Aussie on guitar) called Helmet:

Re: JB’s future at Moorabbin
our list is not in such a crash hot state that we can afford to get rid of Gresham and Billings, two of our better players
One should also remember that the Saints usually get screwed over when trading out our better players.
One has only to remember that in reality we got SFA for Plugger, Greene and Stewart. Our record is extremely poor.
The grass is not always greener on the other side of the f****** fence.

FYI, Billings was touted very highly in that draft and higher than Bontempelli. Now, look where Bont’s career is and compare it with Billings.

Re: JB’s future at Moorabbin
If I was a betting man, I would wager quite a bit that Gresh and Billings won’t be in St.Kilda colours next year. And tbh, I’m not all that worried about losing them. I mean let’s be honest, neither of the two has exactly set the AFL world on fire in the last three years.
I hope we persist with Clark, however.

Probably wouldn’t even be worth anything. Third round pick at best, I’d rather keep him at the point.

What makes you think they would necessarily be involved in a straight swap?Brunswicksainter wrote: ↑Tue 30 May 2023 10:03pmProbably wouldn’t even be worth anything. Third round pick at best, I’d rather keep him at the point.

Re: JB’s future at Moorabbin
Never suggested that, just suggesting his worth on the ope market is about a third round pick at this time. History suggests picks outside top 20 are worthless so I’d rather keep him if that’s the equivalent value we’re getting. On the other hand though he probably has a pretty juicy contract, so opening up some salary cap by lobbing him is an added benefit.Sainternist wrote: ↑Tue 30 May 2023 10:06pmWhat makes you think they would be involved in a straight swap?Brunswicksainter wrote: ↑Tue 30 May 2023 10:03pmProbably wouldn’t even be worth anything. Re: JB’s future at Moorabbin
Bit disrespectful
He’s been a good player
150 games
20ppg as a half forward
30 odd Brownlow votes
His 2017 & 2019 seasons were excellent
Like many, injuries have been a factor
But to suggest he’s been poor is poorly imo is ordinary
He’s only 27 and has been more than handy - maybe the club hasn’t developed him well????

Re: JB’s future at Moorabbin
By getting a fourth rounder?
I’d rather delist - like we did with Ball - cause that was a good move?!
One way you don’t get better
Is turn your first round picks into low picks after development
Gresham, Billings, Clark
A model that sure is s*** ain’t going to work
I think if you think Lyon is going to rebuild- you’ve got rocks in your head
He took over StK when they were cherry ripe in 2007 and the same with Freo in 2012
Then in a poor attempt to rebuild Freo was sacked after 4 awful seasons

Re: JB’s future at Moorabbin
If we keep him, he may end up a list-clogger. I get the impression he’ll want to leave, particularly if he isn’t getting a game.Brunswicksainter wrote: ↑Tue 30 May 2023 10:09pmNever suggested that, just suggesting his worth on the ope market is about a third round pick at this time. Re: JB’s future at Moorabbin
So, you automatically assume history will repeat itself with Lyon? No chance of him learning from his past mistakes? Geez! You must be great fun to go to the footy with!! lol

Re: JB’s future at Moorabbin
RTB actually did a pretty good job of rebuilding at the dockers. The season he got sacked, they were going pretty well with the youngest list in the comp until they were smashed by injuries. He blooded and developed most of their current gun players.Sainternist wrote: ↑Tue 30 May 2023 11:49pmSo, you automatically assume history will repeat itself with Lyon? Re: JB’s future at Moorabbin
Well let's see how he goes when given a firsts game.
Meanwhile I suppose I was suggesting if we are culling and JB is in the bathwater then there are several others to let go before him.
I see him as skillful if iffy sets shot wise.
I see Butler as a gay deceiver and Higgins and current version of Membrey as nothing special, same as Byrnes but Ryan needs persevering with as he shows intermittent promise.
But let's talk big CHB and mids before shuffling half forwards and getting consistent strong effort. Gap between Essendon game and Hawthorn is mind blowing, especially as that performance gap should have been a coaching priority from last October. Dropping players may be a blunt instrument but condoning rubbish begets rubbish.
