38 picks before we chose Battle, so what were the other recruiters doing? Inept. Not sure what Houli's got to do with anything.

Goddard never recovered after his achilles, lost mobility, so who knows?

Name one recruiter that's nailed every pick, even 80%, 70% ........

Not disputing this, but how did this trade work? Ben Long in 2016 at Pick 21 and Clark in 2017 at Pick 7 for instance?

2016, we traded 10 & 68 to Hawthorn for 23, 36 and 2017 1st pick . Picked up Long & Battle for 23 & 36 (ended up 25 & 39) in 2016 draft, Hawks 1st pick in 2017 ended up being pick 7 - Hunter Clark.

Your "only a matter of time" turned out to be six seasons. That is on top of five seasons of promising much, delivering little with us. It takes quite a lot for me to lose patience with a Saints player but Rhys' only true will was to disappoint. It wore me down. As I said, I wish him well but I have absolutely no regrets about moving him on. Neither does the club, it would appear.

Here is an idea if we had of had a coach which used him in the ruck ( for more than one qtr) rather than CHF and CHB it may have helped . That said I think his training and commitment may have improved with maturity also

Ross Lyon was NOT a fan of Rhys. Come to think of it, Ross wasn’t a fan of ANY of our younger blokes. His opinion may have influenced the opinion of some of the leaders at St Kilda.

There’s always a place for players to have a say in selection each week ( especially from the captain and those who form part of the leadership group ). Perhaps some of our on field leaders around the time might have been sought for their opinion and by default they were involved in the bigger picture team elements like list management. Shouldn’t have happened....if it did

I believe the mistake we made with Rhys had more to do with weak leadership and letting the tail wag the dog or perhaps letting the opinions of players influence those who should have had the balls to back themselves and think of the long term benefits of retaining someone as gifted athletically as Rhys.

I know the list managers and CEO stuffed up with the salary cap, but how much of the damage was done because Lyon publicly and privately had serious doubts about the playing list?

His famous departing lines tainted the players and messed with their heads. Some of them who were a little vulnerable actually believed him.

You’ve got a team like Geelong who has been relevant now and playing finals for the last ten years. They didn’t have a messiah claiming it was the ‘end of an era’. I know they’ve been able to recruit a fair bit of ready made talent, but no more so than most clubs. I think there’s only 5-6 guys that are from other clubs. They kept their premiership window open with the right drafting and development.

Was really disappointed to lose Stanley at the time but to be honest... never really regretted the loss.

Has all the attributes and looks like he could become a star but never becomes one. Odd good game but to be honest, IMO he doesn’t look like he’s improved all that much from his time with us.

Certainly was nothing special tonight.

If he was on our list... he’d be the depth ruck forward we’re crying out for but that’s it

They've remained contenders for so long by recruiting players who commit to the jumper whereas we're obsessed with landing big fish committed to big bucks. You can thank the likes of Ross Lyon for instilling the culture of "me first". Self-defeating in a team sport.
