The most natural small forwards in the club are Gresham and Billings . We have tried to make them into midfielders . For next season I reckon we would be better off playing them forward . Time for Clark to go into the middle, and hopefully ( hopefully ) Hannebery can stand up as well. Sinclair starting to look like a midfielder too.
I reckon we draft another midfielder , and go with a forward line of
Billings Membrey Gresham

Yeah I wasnt sure. I was into Daniel.
Worked with a Dogs supporter at the time and I can remember the conversation we had about it.

Lonie doesn't have a right foot - got him into trouble a few times last night
Love his pressure but small forwards should be dual sided

True but if you want to attract anything of value you have to give up something with currency...I can’t see any of them attracting much tbh

Re: Bulldogs Chasing Lonie
Lonie is one of the highest rated Defensive pressure forwards in the comp.
There are clubs screaming out for that. Believe it or not, Lonie DOES have some currency. If it can make our list better, then we should look at the options.
Butler is better.

We aren't going to be getting any stars for Lonie.
Realistically, I would try and snare McLean. Looked really good a couple of seasons ago when he played in the midfield, but Dunkley took his spot towards the back half of 2018 and McLean has been stuck playing up forward.

We won't get a star but a second round pick would be very valuable. (We don't have one). You can get a great player in the 20's.True Blue Sainter wrote: ↑Sat 12 Sep 2020 3:50am We aren't going to be getting any stars for Lonie.

3rd round pick would be a waste of a trade. We need to strike while the iron's hot (i.e. Ryder, Hanners & Hill) and win one in the next year or so. Keep Lonie, if for no other reason that depth, unless he can unlock someone worth walking through the door. And in terms of small forwards, I still think Hind is worth persisting with. Though I also like the idea of trying Philips there or Sinclair if they gonna keep him on the list.

As long as we pay half Kents wage
Perhaps Bruce is missing Lonie???
I’d keep Lonie and give them Kent, he’s just not AFL standard consistently. Plays a few good games then back to witches hat.

Reading through some of the threads and posts it sound 's like half the teams up for grabs
I like Lonie. He tackles, goes in hard and cares about the jumper
Not to mention he wins free kicks and kicks some handy goals.

I agree. Kent is very inconsistent. Plays about 6 good games every year, probably mostly against the weaker teams and just goes missing for the rest.Joffa Burns wrote: ↑Sat 12 Sep 2020 8:29amAs long as we pay half Kents wage

Kent is on a 3 year contract and has one year left. On good coin too. I hope that recruiter isn't still with us. Bloke from Carlton. Wayne something from memory.
Keep Lonie and Hind.
Trade or delist Kent.

Kent sucked me in early this year with a couple of good games, now he's back to his usual showing.SaintPav wrote: ↑Sat 12 Sep 2020 11:19amI agree. Kent is very inconsistent. The issue is he doesn't appear to chase, tackle, harass or be at the fall of the ball or work hard up the ground.
Lonie has his challenges but he has a crack, gets at the drop of the ball and works a long way up the ground.
Kent has the physique, but other that the hit on Warple I don't see him use it or show any aggression.
He's done well to etch out 8-10 years at AFL being a fringe player.
For mine we need a couple of mids (Caldwell & Williams would be a great start) with the best forward set up being something like below with rotations through the midfield for Geesh and Wings for Billings.
Billings Marshall Gresham
Butler King Membrey
With Lonie or Hind on the bench rotation and Kent gone.
If we get some Midfield depth our mids that can kick a goal can rotate forward like Steele, Clarke, Gresh etc will alleviate the need for permanent small forwards.
I'd like to see Coffield on a wing next year with his kicking and marking on display.
Looks a better skilled and more consistent version of Blake Acres to me.
Not sure if his endurance is that level yet.

Bulldogs can have him I reckon.
We need to recruit another small forward at Butlers calibre. Plus get Gresham to play 50/50 forward/mid also.
Move Billings there as well or to Half Back.
Sexton from GC is what we need and Williams or Couch and Caldwell.
A player like Koby Stevens would have been really handy this season. He was only playing a couple of years back.

Re: Bulldogs Chasing Lonie
Lonie is still the pick of the bunch up there. Sans Butler
Kent and Hind
Are Behind...
Seeming Parker always get discussed as a manner of the small forward family...I think he is the least complete footballer of the lot.
Is he a work in progress? Can he still become a complete footballer? And what kind of footballer would that be?
He can’t be sold..he isn’t worth anything I guess...but I think he has most most potential. Is it too late?
He, more than Long, could be that explosive half-back winger, even mid fielder? He could be like a Robinson from Brisbane. ...??
He needs to learn. And find a role. He is not a small forward? I think we put him there because we know no other place and he jumps.

Goddard slower than a snail, McKenzie can't hit a barn door, Lonie no greater trier but too small and too lightweight.
What a frigging waste.
Who chose that lot.
Sack the useless pi55.
Wouldn't be surprised it was the same lot that wasted pick 1 on Pudding McCartin.
Oh hang on, they did.
Guilty on all counts your honour.
Daniel can play well but his lack of height means he needs a match up who can't mark overhead.

Re: Bulldogs Chasing Lonie
I seem to remember Lonie wanting a 2 year contract at the end of last year but the club was only offering one year.
He hung out as long as could but eventually signed.
If the club does not offer him a multiple year contrat he could walk for nothing.
All he needs is for some club to offer him a better deal, he lets his present contract expire.
He becomes a delisted free agent and joins the other club.
