Saints have 2 days more rest.

Don't change too much of what has been successful most weeks, just tinker at the edges.

B: Paton - Howard - Wilkie
HB: Coffield - Carlisle - Clark
C: Hill - Jones - Billings
HF: Hind - Marshall - Butler
F: Membrey - King - Sinclair
R: Ryder - Steele - Gresham
Int: Phillips - Bytel - Long - Ross
Emg: Battle - Kent - Savage - Roberton

In: Ryder - Jones - Ross
Dropped Out: Battle (rested) - Geary (sore) - Kent (rested)
I can't have Gresham any more.
I need a rover to replace him at stoppages.
And I need to bring in another running player to replace whoever becomes my rover.
Jones becomes my rover
Bytel comes off the bench but expect Ross to get more game time.
Kent comes in from my emergencies.
Then either Lonie or Byrnes added to my emergencies.

Watching Essendon last night it would seem that there is no real match up for Carlisle

So rest Jake and Howardand Wilkie take Stewart and mckernan

We need people to run with McGrath and Saad, so Geary must play

Membrey plays on Ridley ( now their best intercept marking defender)

Rest King bring in Ryder and Marshall plays mainly full forward to take on Hurley with Battle and Ryder rotating through as well

I don’t think Geary will be out unless he is sore and doubt if they would rest King.
Max is never outmarked and our small forwards need the spilled ball.
Jake could b3 rested as Battle could go to defenc3 if needed.

I agree with the Clavarino suggestion. Carlisle is as slow as a wet week, soft at contests and his body language spells sulkiness.

Have we written off R. Byrnes for the time being, after one game?

Oh dear....this is stressful.

1) don’t rest Butler. He already rested. Did you see him on the line against Geelong?
2) Keep Carlisle. He could be our swing man against his old boys. King to the wing. Carlisle as a roving forward in second half.
3) Kent blows..drop. Sorry.
4) Lonie in.
5) Ross in.
6) Roberton in,
7) Jones in.

Out
1) Geary
2) Kent
3) Gresh injured.
4) Coffield.

Surprised at the suggestion to drop Coffield. Think he's tired? Or out of form? I've mostly had him in our best.

On the other hand, I've also had Clark in our best and he does seem to need a rest to me.

Yes..ffs what was I thinking. I suspect Ryder was not fit. But if so. Bring in.
In that case Lonie Or philips out. It’s a bit Schwarzenegger for Danny DiVito...but I’ll leave that to the match planning committee.
Marshall isn’t great of late too. I wouldn’t be surprised if they rested him.

Coffield,
He’s obviously a keeper and talented. Is he still finding his feet? Last game was my first game to watch start to finish and I relied on the Fox TV. I thought he made mistakes. They were all overwhelmed down there TBH. I worry for the shattered figure of Dougal Howard I saw in the forward line..I’m projecting. The only Jack I really know about in the St Kilda team has a four letter surname starting with S. But as an anxious supporter I say yes, Ryder for sure.

I would just write off the loss against the pussies as an aberration. If something was going to go wrong it really f****** went wrong. Everything went right for those pricks from sleepy hollow to the extent that their dropkick of a coach described it as a near perfect game. The maggots didn't help our cause overlooking certain frees and allowing the pussies to monster our young team who, incidentially only had a three day break between games.

My advice. Just forget it and move on.

Oh my SG, here I am drinking Asahi by the 500ml whilst you're drinking saki at the same rate...Coffield???

I was about to throw him in the middle. Agree that Butler cannot be rested but Lonie??? For who, Kent, I'm guessing & can see the reasoning with Gresham out but believe that's not going to work. Keep Kent, Ryder in, Jones in. OUT: Gresham, Geary.

You might have a point there. Coffield in the midfield. (coff...coff) sorry abt that.

More seriously, I just saw our poor defence, so lauded, so complete, and so shattered. It was awful. You have to realise, it was my first game to watch. All I had heard was so convincing. The back six (sans Captain and Long) looked solid. I thought Robbo in for sure. Get him in ASAP, even if he gets his arse kicked for two games....get him in. He is too good. Long...well, I know he is a project. So let's see. Coffield is in the Gold class of our team. Looks so to me...but I just assumed as a youngster, he will go missing and needs to sit out and really watch a game. He was under siege like all of them, turned the wrong way, miskicked, I thought. Of course he is in the top 10 now. But maybe watch a game? However, if we threw him in the midfield, maybe he would rise to the occasion...or would he get thrown to the wolves. Talent is obvious, so that is no problem. Maybe you have a point. I am loathe to drop the back talls...and I am still sad about Nathan B going home, but I know diddly about Clav...I won't attempt to spell his name.

OUT. Gears, Kent and unfortunately Hind.
Need Geary for defensive forward on Saad, Got matchup wrong last night he if good on the smaller rebound players - Johannison, Dogherty, but intercept markers too small.

Ins : agree with
Out: Paton, Hind, Marshall (looked sore )

6 day break so plenty of rest, other options - Hind - poor last night but really good 2 games ago, King - Perhaps a break as top heavy with Marshall (if play) , King, Membrey, Battle, Ryder, Phillips - kicked 2 goals so would be unlucky even though not in best 22

Good to have options not like some clubs .
I'm thinking:
Out: Kent, Carlise, Geary plus Gresh
In: Clav., Jones, Ryder plus Byrnes

2020 isn't the end-game, so it's an eye on 2021. We need games into Bynres, Bytel & Clav (or Roberton). Carlisle needs an ass-kick and Geary needs a dignified exit. I'd pick Ross for trade bait but just as it would be good to play finals this year, I doubt anyone forgets him. Balance, I'd sooner play Brynes & Bytel for experience before 2021 than Seb for trade bait.

Yep exactly, wouldn't be worth the 3rd or 4th round pick we'd get for him.

Seb is a bit like dear old Armo.

He should have been traded to Qld for a 20's pick 3 years before he retired.

I loved Armo but it is a business.

Get Seb's value up and get a high 20's pick for him.

Not a hope in hell we'd get a high 20's pick for Seb. And in a heavily compromised (father/son; academy picks) 2020 draft - even a pick in the 20's would be basically useless.

Seb is not going anywhere ffs. Two best and fairest's and a runner up in the past three years means he is more valuable to us in the side than any pick outside a top 20. Look what we got for fatguts. SFA and we are still paying his salary .

OK. Watch him closely against the Bummers and we will reconvene after that.
