Perfect for a 3rd tall lead up forward.
And he can kick straight as a bonus.

Battle offers versatility and Webster offers hardness whilst both are smart and use the ball well. I reckon Websters pace will give him the slight advantage on this one.

Unfortunately this year is a raffle and is tough on any bloke outside the 22 as there is little opportunity to build any kind of form. Regardless, Battle will get his turn at some stage and when he does, it's up to him to hold it. Ahhhh to actually have depth, how refreshing!
Webster is an awful kick.
His kicking is worse than that.

You don't know Ratten's opinion though.

You only know what he says in the media.
Well one instance of Ratten giving his opinion was actually during a facebook live Q & A session with Saints members so unless you're claiming him to be a liar than I reckon you should take off the tinfoil hat and get a pair of glasses whilst you're at it!

Very interesting to me...
Savage, Webster, Newnes and Dunstan. All players who appeared to have a reverence that I didn’t feel was necessarily deserved... Dunstan to a lesser degree as he at least had some patches of consistency.

Newnes gone
Dunstan started with his spot but was first out and pbly first to return when opportunity arises
Savage and Webster not straight back in

Webster has had a really bad run with injury but can play, I wonder if he gets back?

When will Geary realise that he is not in our best 22? He should do the right thing and retire after this week.

Tony, you have to understand that Nick specialises in deplorable comments, as did CityWest and all his previous identities.

A deplorable so-called supporter who thinks they know more than the entire club and dumps on our captain. Weak as cats piddle.

Sorry, I don't mean to offend but I honestly believe that Geary is not in our best 22 anymore. Maybe retire is too harsh but he should only play in the seniors if we are hit by injuries. If he wasn't captain Sinclair would be playing this week.

Praise the Lord you are not a selector!

Usually pays to think before you hit the submit button.

Gears is an automatic selection any clearly in our best 22.

Whoa Trev! I like what you say, up to a point. I like Geary having a role and being given a job but I love the look of our backline without him. It is young and it is exciting.

Geary has an incredible discipline so when there is an attacking defender to lock down, he's valuable. When there's not I'm not sure he's best 22. I am hoping we've improved enough to make that decision a discussion rather than an automatic.

We will have to agree to disagree. In my opinion, with a full list to pick from he would be the 26th ranked player on our list.

He's not a Great player.

He's average as a tall defender.
He's poor as a small defender.
He's good as a 3rd tall defender/medium defender.

He's poor as a tall forward.
Average as a small forward.
Ok as a 3rd tall forward/medium defender.

Poor as a midfielder.

As I said, he's a good, polished footballer. If he was bigger, he'd be an elite KPP - but unfortunately he's not.

If he was mobile, he could probably be an elite midfielder. But he's not.

So he kind of has a niche role.

And the problem is that Wilkie is ahead of him as the 3rd defender, easily. Which means that there's only really a spot for him if Marshall or Ryder don't play. When they both play, Membrey is ahead of him as the 3rd tall forward.

I really like Battle as a player. But I just can't see where his position is in the best 22.

Well things have shaken up a bit this year.
With Howard here, King on the park, Carlisle back... me thinks that we’re still figuring out the ideal team structure/balance.
Hopefully we can find a spot/role for Battle as he certainly is very talented.

Geary is a fearless warrior that never gives up.
Unfortunately, his lack of skill and habit of causing turnovers, means he is a serious liability.
All the gains we have made with recruiting Hill, Jones, Butler, will be thrown out of the window in each game that Geary plays.
His inclusion is difference between smooth and accurate ball movement, and multiple turnovers and letting the oppo get a run-on.

Geary will probably take Betts.
Lock down Betts hurts the opposition scoring BUT
Don't forget why Betts fell out of favour with the Adelaide selectors.
He created a massive hole in his team's forward defence structure.

When we turn over their ball Geary must run off him and exploit Betts lazy defence.

Last week I saw Battle lining up on the wing after a goal was scored and I was confused, but straight after the bounce and straight after one of their mids got the ball, guess who charged in and put on a lock arm tackle to hold them up? That’s right...Joshy boy

Cripps is the size of a centre half forward. He’s not overly quick either so I reckon if you are going to be up against mids of that size there’s no point playing someone who can’t match them for strength. I reckon you’ll see a bit of Joshy around some stoppages

I’d love Gears to put a strangle hold on someone like Docherty or Kade Simpson. Not sure if he has the tank for Murphy, but that would also be a good match up. Betts is not going to be the biggest threat to us winning in my opinion.
