I am not diabetic, nor a doctor but I asked a diabetic mate and apparently fructose is low GI so it is not absorbed very quickly into the bloodstream, and the impact on blood sugar is a lot less than glucose or sucrose which are higher GI. I guess in a hypo state you want to absorb that sugar as quick as possible
