Re: Match Thread - Saints V Freo
Being at the game and genuinely perplexed this post on BF said it all - I’m not saying btw (for the usual moron crew) that coaches are absolved from the loss …but the on field effort by some of our players had me Lol at one stage …that’s not game plan
****
For the 50th time.
Ross' gameplan doesn't instruct the players to:
miss 2m handballs
kick it out on the full going foward when Max is out by 15m on his opponent
Find the 1/100 way to mess up an obvious counter attack
drop an uncontested mark off a kick-in in th back pocket.
We have a TALENT and EXECUTION problem

I felt for King last night ….3 times going forward out on full or over boundary when he had position on his opponent?

Try look deeper than the numbers on a stats sheet

I’m not just talking about his numbers
His effort was huge - which resulted in those numbers
If you don’t think he was our best player - you were watching a different game to me
He was enormous

Didn’t say his effort wasn’t huge.
But a problem at St Kilda is we put our stars up on a pedestal and refuse to look at them objectively.

Re: Match Thread - Saints V Freo
This is it gang - absolutely nails it.
1st half last night around stoppage we break even in mid contest and looked ok (still issues into 50 but much better)
It starts in the guts
Pray Crouch Clark have decent games cause we sorely need them that said we DO NOT have an attacking midfielder anywhere..good sides have 2-3
***
True. Steele is a re-active/defensive mid.. he can rack up big tackle numbers because he doesn’t win the ball first..
Our real problem is basically we don’t have a midfield of 4-5 quality mids.. we have no chance playing 1 quality mid(Steele) against 4-5 most sides have…
All of our defensive issues / forward entries issues can be solved by fixing the midfield problem, even if we just break even..
So I’d rather play the kids, draft / trade for 3-4 high potential mids then go again next year.. beats finishing 9/10th and be in no man’s land again..

Sorry Dud at the game Marshall was massive
Yes, he grabs out of ruck too much but that’s because the midfield is shizen

Re: Match Thread - Saints V Freo
All I will say is that our midfield is easily in the bottom two in the comp and I simply cannot believe that we are still crying out for quality mids since 2011. There has to be serious problems with the running of the club in regards to personnel when we cannot get this right in over 13 years.
So many clubs have surpassed us in this area and some after already winning premierships and again rebuilding a list.
We unfortunaly are a rabble of a club.
Last night was painful to watch....again!
We still have a long way to go to challenge for a second club premiership and we're approaching a 60 year drought.

And it’s not just any old mid - we need ball winners who can break away and become attacking
Think Butters Rozee Frances Serong etc
We have loads of defensive types
We need the balance right
We showed - even last night we break even round stoppage we can compete
I’m of the firm view defence is strong , we have a strong ruck (could use another) and our forwards would be much much better If we could win and clear from stoppages quickly and better than we are now
LDU? Plus draft is a start but Steele is up against mids who bat 4-5 deep on quality …we have 1
Can’t hold the dam back with that lack of quality

Re: Match Thread - Saints V Freo
Even last year with Steele and Crouch both playing, it was left to too few.. now with only Steele, it’s just not fair how much of mess our midfield is..
I get it people wants to play an attractive brand of football, but if we can’t win the ball Cleanly consistently.. we’re always against it.. so we play defensive to over compensate for a non existent midfield

It’s tough, but there’s always something to cling to.
The Zebs are playing well. We have talent coming through

Freo trailled by 10 points early in the 3rd and then kicked 4.12.36 to 1.3.9, so if they had kicked 12.4.76 we would and should have lost by 57 points!
its time to make a name for yourself like you've never made before!

Even Lyon said we were only in it cause they missed
It’s WHY we are shyte is what matters

What he's really saying is that the scoreboard was close in the first half. But you can't just rely on restricting the other team.
He just doesn't get it. We have to start valuing scoring.
What we need is better ball movement. We need more scoring opportunities.
What we need is a better game plan.

Re: Match Thread - Saints V Freo
Not sure your point here. Marshall was by far our best player, he probably also just beat Luke Jackson around the ground also.
