Are you asking this seriously?

If you are, you've obviously never been involved in a footy club.

As for why I think "he never understoodd, embraced or gave a shiite about this??", that's just a perception I had of him.

LOL, so you judge people based on perceptions... not performance?

What's more scary is that you seem to allow your "percetpions" to hinder your views and therefore your ability to judge him objectively.

One of the reasons why interstate clubs like Adelaide and WCE are so strong is that they are NOT hindered by traditional culture.

You can talk all about winning games, but look at North during the 90's... 2 flags, constant finals... still financially up the creek. To say that the two are mutually exclusive is very naive.

I really think you're simply on here to take the piss RF.

With every team striving for that extra 1% in competitive edge, I put it to you that have a fully resourced footy dept is a critical factor in modern AFL.

The real challenge for the footy CEO over the last decade and for the decade to come is - how to transform football clubs into modern business operations without losing the basic soul of the club. Not an easy task.

Did AF succeed?

Financial security - Made a loss last year after years of profits. But the club is not on the edge of being thrown into administration ala North or the Demons.

The footy dept is professionally run with improved resourcing so that the club is focusing on our most important bottom line - winning football matches. We APPEAR to be on the verge of moving to a new training base. (Though some doubts remain regarding its financial viability.) Anyone who believes this is not important is not learning the lessons of public sporting organisations worldwide and is stuck up their own parochial proverbial.

I feel a spiritual connection to the club. It matters. Week in, week out I care about the team, its results, the people who are my fellow supporters. I know others feel differently and feel that the club is losing its soul, but IMO the success of websites like this one underline my point of view.

Nevertheless the risk of disconnection with the fan base remains. Who are our figurehead champion St Kilda players? Harvey has gone. If Nick Riewoldt, for whatever reason were to leave/be struck down with long term injury who would be the publicly identifiable face of St Kilda? The team is built on a shaky edifice.

Hird... The unflushable one is now... just a turd...

He may be good at running a comp he is familiar with.

But I've never understood why he was running an AFL footy club. Like or not, but AFL footy clubs have a different culture to regular businesses, and certainly have a different culture to soccer clubs.

I felt Fraser never understood, embraced or even gave a shiit about this fact.

something we agree on

So it will always have a small place - hence Socceroos.

However, football fans here have decided to reject the tag, so while you can call it what you want if it helps you sleep at night, they'll be calling it football.

I sure hope Archie Fraser can help bring the WC 2018 to Australia...I'd forgive him for everything :)
exactly right Everton,

I guess it depends on your upbringing what you call the code and in what context. I'm mad EPL and have lived in the UK. They call it football or footie all the time. But here in Oz we get soccer and football, football is the 'new' term for it here as we are participating in global events now regularly via Asian Cups, and Asian Champions League, and World Cups etc.

Rugby League supporters also call their code football and rugby, so its the same thing. Our newer followers to our code in the northern states refer to our game as football or AFL. So there is no right answer IMO.

league supporters never....i say never .....call their code rugby........that's reserved for union.....northern australians....the ignorant swans type.... call our code aussie rules or afl......
sorry stinger, i meant that their game is called Rugby League but their supporters call it football - thats my point.

I'd be surprised if Archie could get out in 2 weeks (unless the club is happy to see him go). Buckley will want him quickly, but St KFC would want to retain him for a couple of months while they did their own search and appointment. I'd be surprised if they didn't agree on 4-6 weeks.

Despite the GC moving van theory, FFA is based in Sydney. He'll need to find some new digs, so 4-6 weeks will cover off on that process as well.

Seems it was about 5 weeks.

Yes Archie has been removed from the saints.com.au Staff List.

Quick change.

Pity it can't be updated to include an assistant coach that has been there for months?

Anyone who says Archie Fraser didn't love this club is a FOOL.

Why did he answer member's emails at any time of the day? I got a reply from him once at midnight, and I only sent the email about 10.30pm.

Why did he fly overseas to check out training facilities, so he could ensure that we had the best on offer at Frankston?

Why did he push for the introduction of 'Ask Archie', so members had a direct line of contact to the CEO of their club?

Why did he talk privately with so much passion and enthusiasm for the club?

Talk about shallow.

You all judge a bloke by his accent.

Completely turned around the human resources company he worked for ... it was losing money hand over fist, and ended up being bought out and becoming hugely profitable.

Under Archie's tenure we have had:
- Record sponsorship levels
- Record membership levels
- Best-staffed football and administrative departments in the club's history
- A new training base being constructed
- Launch of Saints Central ... the only club to have such a website

Archie Fraser might be Scottish and might have had a business and soccer background.

But he LOVES St Kilda.

He LOVED his job.

He made hard decisions and was not afraid to try new things.

I sent him an email for a joke and he just loved it, and was going to forward it to his mum...
Hi Archie

I couldn't believe it when I spotted you on the news last night. Well done - it was a great story.

In case you didn't catch it you'll be pleased to know I recorded it. You can view it here:
http://www.themessagegroup.com.au/last- ... reate.html

(turn the volume up)

Congratulations again.

Two days later he got the job for the A League lol....

But, he did give up his time and answered emails at all hours and I feel he really loves the Club, and put all he could into making our Club a success.

I wish him well

AF leaving should be a win-win.

I'm confident we can only improve now, plus he should do well with the A-League/Soccer - his forte.
