Re: Unofficial match thread v Eagles
Now we are out of the 8 and not coming back perhaps the club can think:
- we should not play Newnes again;
- Or Long until he can actually do something regularly in VFL;
- Parker needs to develop his craft to be able to score against a finals side and should perhaps go to VFL for a while;
- Webster and Brown are never going to be long term prospects;
- play Battle forward, we really do need to score to win;
- Gresham is nothing special;
- Richo has never coached us to an exceptional win when we really need it (the weird Richmond game is a mystery). He always loses crunch games;
- For goodness sake get a tall marking target at FF - is there any one on the list over 6'3" on the list not playing.
Next week out: Newnes, Brown, Long, possibly Webster, possibly Gresham: get some reliability going. In Clark, White, Joyce, Coffield, reluctantly Longer in (Marshall CHF; Bruce CHB)

Re: Unofficial match thread v Eagles
Not surprised with the result ... we were missing many important players and we have the worst midfield at the moment now that Steven is out.
Plus, they got Gaff back ... and he was BOG.
There is plenty of upside for us ... we are far from our strongest line up.

What a terrible game.
"Now the ball is loose, it gives St. Kilda a rough chance. Black. Good handpass. Voss. Schwarze now, the defender, can run and from a long way".....

Footskills.
That was the number one reason we lost.
We did enough of the rest well enough to win. But blew some good chances to set up goals
WC by contrast had some good fast breaks where they hit targets and goaled.
That is why we lost and they won.

**Long got no service tonight. Nor did Parker. Both were effective in defensive pressure but until we stop the long bombs into 50 we will always struggle
- Parker needs to develop his craft to be able to score against a finals side and should perhaps go to VFL for a while;
**see above
- Webster and Brown are never going to be long term prospects;
** Brown due to his age fair comment but Webster was playing tonight with an injured hand ans he was still ok, not great but ok
- play Battle forward, we really do need to score to win;
** Have said this multiple time before, if not for injuries battle would be a forward. He is getting another string to his bow but id prefer him forward now and Bruce back
- Gresham is nothing special;
**Poor call. he inst brilliant yet but he can be great. At thios point he isn't a gun mid but give him a year to learn the craft
- Richo has never coached us to an exceptional win when we really need it (the weird Richmond game is a mystery). He always loses crunch games;
** Poor game plan and skill are in the crapper.

** Max King is 200+ cm giv him a session or two
Next week out: Newnes **maybe**, Brown **god no**, Long **maybe for young**, possibly Webster **no**, possibly Gresham**no: get some reliability going.
In Clark **maybe for Dunstan**,
White **over Webster? no,
Joyce **Hahahha no* , Coffield **seriously? watch or at least read reviews of Sandy game, he is average at best at present ,
reluctantly Longer in (Marshall CHF; Bruce CHB). ** Put the crack pipe down. Longer is below average
at best he really is

100% - I can’t have him. Horribly overrated. Slow, can’t kick, one sided, doesn’t hit the scoreboard.
Him and a Dunstan can both just fvck right off
Go you red, black & white warriors

We have too many one-dimensional left footers who can't swing on to their right foot with any degree of confidence, or accuracy.

Re: Unofficial match thread v Eagles
I saw our blokes (both the very young like Ed and the more experienced like Seb) bombing the ball inside 50 several times when we had control and we had time.
That is not footskills.
I saw guys like Seb, Jimmy, Luke and Jack Newnes trying to kick the ball out of congestion but the footy was smothered or our blokes failed to elevate it enough or failed to direct the footy away from the opposition who were better positioned for the intercept. Our dirty ball movement was hopeless because there was no metreage gained.
That is not footskills
I saw guys like Gresh and Seb and Membrey and Kent rush their shots at goal or go for goals that were beyond them. We wasted opportunities i50 which just means you are handing back possession to them. We need to have set rules and be disciplined and Kick TEAM goals.

Disagree about Dunstan. He gets amongst it, but Ross won't, or can't, win a hard ball, or run hard defensively.

Gotta love the "match thread".
Dominated by no-nuffin numpties who fail to rationalize we ran the raining premiers to 18 points.
If it were mandatory that a photo of your smug dial was posted with you post, maybe people would thin a little harder before they hit the "submit" button.

Plus it was in the back to 8cres. Lucky the siren went for the the umps.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

Re: Unofficial match thread v Eagles
No nuffin numpties didn't write the five year plan
No nuffin numpties didn't appoint Richo when he apparently didn't want the job.
I understand that we've had bad luck this year, but the rot started last year before Robbo got sick and before Paddy was knocked out for the umpteenth time and before we lost Bruce and Webster to injuries. In fact some would say that question marks were raised in the middle of 2017. Our form and our player development fell into a slump after that thrashing we copped from Essendon midyear 2017
The rebuild actually started under Watters so that's now 7 years without playing finals and this year will be 8 if we cannot scrape in. I think we've given Richo lots of opportunity to develop a list and to show us whether he has what it takes to develop top end talent. The fact that we consistently fail to perform means that he has to go and I think Finnis needs to be accountable too if we cannot make finals

We “ran them” to 13 points at Optus Stadium in Rd 11 last year - so in theory, we are still going backwards.Trev from the Bush wrote: ↑Sun 12 May 2019 12:28am Gotta love the "match thread".

Correct- we were closer at their home ground where they're expected to dominate.ss1986 wrote: ↑Sun 12 May 2019 1:36amWe “ran them” to 13 points at Optus Stadium in Rd 11 last year - so in theory, we are still going backwards.Trev from the Bush wrote: ↑Sun 12 May 2019 12:28am Gotta love the "match thread".

At this stage of 2019, WCE have been a shadow of last year, and we played on our turf.
Last year, Skunk got a bag.

Anyone who thought that effort tonight was pleasing ,positive or strong has their heads in the sand the Eagles were off tonight & we still fell miles short. 18 points was flattering for us IMO

What the he’ll happened with the tackling? Completely fallen over - so many broken tackles by the eagles that it looked like the entire team stopped trying to tackle and just went to standing around .

Re: Unofficial match thread v Eagles
By footskills I mean both the technical ability to kick as well as the judgement on where and when to kick.
Take Gresham. His ability to kick is not that bad, but he virtually always goes for high degree of difficulty kick kicking across his body wanting to kick the impossible goal or to try and thread the ball across the ground to a team mate between two opponents, and then compounds it by kicking to where the player is, which then allows the the ball to be spoiled.
Which takes me to a sore point of mine.
STOP KICKING THE BL***DY BALL TO WHERE THE PLAYER IS
Way, way too often do our players just kick the ball to where the team mate is (Worse again are general bombs in the vague direction of a player). Result is that the opponents can run in and spoil. Often to it is way above their head making it even easier for the ball to spoilt. We need to kick more often to the ADVANTAGE of our players such that they have to run to where the ball will be in a spot where spoiling cannot be made.
Banger was a poor kick, especially over distance and a lousy shot on goal. But he was smart and so concentrated on becoming deadly with his 30 m kicks to team mates in good positions.
Running through the midfield he became a master of hitting up players in good positions.

How many times were Saints players just watching an eagle get the ball and dispose of it

Players usually copy their captain and follow his leadership.
