GT just made a little cash

Not sure he needs a job at this point in time… especially one as stressful as coaching that club.

Just didn’t want to go through the process of presenting and being interviewed

He just wanted them to give him the job because of who he is

Just was speaking to a Shepparton based cousin who has known the Teague family for a very long time. Apparently Lyon has blood on his hands, working overtime with Carlton to knife David Teague. Having done that and thinking he was a walk up start, spat the dummy at the process. I think the Blues may have dodged a bullet, but does not help the deposed coach.
It's pretty common knowledge in the AFL industry that Lyon has been speaking to Carlton all year. Liam Pickering was pilloried for saying it but all he did was state out loud what most ppl knew (or at the least - suspected). The flaw in Lyon's plan? He'd mainly been speaking with Mark LoGiudice and not, Luke Sayers.

Then Sayers called the mid-season review via the media (naive, destabalising, unnecessary). And then it changed. No longer was Lyon a shoe-in ... he had to show interest. Which is what he did on the weird episode of Footy Classified where he basically interviewed himself for the job. That put Carlton off.

But the main reason he didn't get the Carlton job is very, very simple. Together with the hundreds of calls from female members; the female board members flipped on finding out the detail behind the six-figure payout to the Freo staffer.

In short - they couldn't hire a Coach with that in the closet AND continue to campion their Carlton Respects cause that they're so invested in.

Interesting and why am I not surprised.

Lyin is more skilled at backstabbing than he ever was at coaching .

Too bad we'll never the type of harassment attributed to Lyin towards the female staffer, i'd imagine, allegedly, he verballed her rather than asking her to wave his wand.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Yes, I agree …

How quickly men wave that tar brush and brand each other….
Lyon isn’t likable, and we won’t ask among ourselves, who watches porn and who isn’t beneath it. (Among anything else)

Anyway, Lyon is probably cooked now..and he’ll be lucky if he gets to keep his Classified job now. That’s the way it goes..it must be God’s way of keeping one humble before the almighty.

Lyon will be fine
Stay in media and be paid well
SS fantasy dribble won’t change
Still most successful Saints coach last 30 years sides into GFs at 2 clubs
Won’t coach again but that’s how it goes
Teague was under performing and with 15 top 12 draft picks in that side since 2004 if he was at Saints I’d want him sacked too.

Lyon was acting like he actually believed the mythology that HE was the reason that Freo and St Kilda made Grand Finals

We all know he twice inherited teams that were full of star quality (that had already played finals) and both squads were on an upward path

His time with us was unsuccessful and he left the Saints list in a mess

The loss of Lachie Weller, Lachie Neale, Ed Langdon and some fractured relationships with other Freo players and the footy department were starting to play havoc with the team dynamic. I think Freo parted ways before his divisive personality had infected another club and set roots in the Freo culture

Didn't Cerra say he didn't want to go to Carlton if Ross was the coach?

This is the problem
Cerra doesn’t want to play at Carlton if big bad Ross is coach......tail wagging the dog abs why that club is shyte
Lol at your failed attempt to suggest Lyon didn’t introduce an elite performance culture at 2 clubs unfortunately again NOT backed up by FACT and at direct odds with Nick Riewoldts recent comments on Lyon (but I get it...selectively ignore Riewoldt ....cause you know more right????????)
EVERY club after a reasonable period of success experiences list declines and a need to rebuild -Dogs done it twice since 2016 , Melb , Port , Lions (Cats will soon as top up comes to an end if they don’t win it this year)
That’s not Lyons fault again themes the FACTS
But again you’d know more....right??
I think I’ll stick with the FACTS from champions such as Riewoldt Dal Joey et al than made up internet ramblings fuelled by nothing more than incoherent and illogical thought...

Do you think Ross Lyon can’t instil an elite, professional environment at football clubs or do you think he’s just lucky 2 times abs winning 19-0 was flukey?

That’s the question.

It’s already been answered by ex senior champs abs leaders from the club btw but the musings /made up responses on here are fun

Sure R. Lyon has a good coaching record but dated now and arguably he is successful in only limited and rare circumstances.

To find a process beneath him shows insecurity, why not respect it and ace it. Because he thinks he would flunk?

Auditioning for 13 years? But fluffing lines on the big stages?

Lot of bluster Ross any serious offers or crickets?

Lyons finished as a coach think everyone knows that
It’s the muppets trying to re write history suggesting he couldn’t coach I laugh about
They weren’t whingeing at 19-0
Lyons not going through a rookie Mickey Mouse coaching process organised by tgsrcrabble of a club - who would??
Besides he knows they’re desperate for Clarko and IF he’s analysed their list they’ve probably thrown squillions at him to land him
Not short of money Carlton
Short on brains.

A lot of bullocks here me thinks ....that..

Lyon was an elite coach and he did set and enforce elite standards..
He worked extremely hard and was very thorough.

I think he lifted St Kilda.

I think he lifted Freo.

He had favorites (Zac) and wasn't 'nice'.

He coached one season at a time. (which is good but doesn't give much to setting up in each subsequent year)

The 'problem' is...if you call it that.. (apart from scandal to which I won't go because any of us can get messed up) ..

..the problem is image, both of the way he presented outwardly, and of how he (I imagine) read the big social scoreboard in his head. And on that scoreboard he knew he wasn't looking pretty..So my hypothesis is that he knew he would only be tolerated when winning..and just tolerated.

He's hard to identify with...a bloke like Lyon is hard to relate to. So he has only two persona . 1) the aloof genius who we admire from afar, like a 'legend' 2) the rotten ol' whining loser puffed up with pride. Unfortunately, it is the latter he is getting served up with now.

Image and relationships, persona and the like...what an absolute horrible reality we must adapt to. (I am doing a pretty poor job myself!)

Narrative explicit or implied now usually starts R. Lyon was. Open competition against peers could have changed that but his record & status make the prospect demeaning? Ross' iron in fire was to be informally considered for coaching a club in disarray, but tasol (?). McCrea has gone past Rossy in coaching relevance, if in fact Ross had any after being dismissed by Freo.

Yes but what’s factual is Lyon still has far more coaching relevance than “GT” has ever had so can we stop even comparing cause it’s now laughable.

Does Lucifer have more relevance than God?

Could Satan exist without God the creator

Are the stories and myths true about the devil and is his grip on his disciples more powerful than the love and worship shown to God?

Lyon inherited a team of champions. They made it work because they had to in order to be successful. They believed in him because Not doing so was not an option. Unfortunately he was a failure and the team didn't achieve it's potential

If it wasn't for GT and Mark Harvey Lyin may well have had an entirely different coaching career because he has NO idea how to build a list.

That's been proven...Twice.

Both clubs he coached so well are still trying to rebuild, years after he sashayed out of them both .

Geez Wayne I had you as a little sharper...
Yes both us and Freo took hits after Lyon left we all know why - we had a crack at our first failed prelim under GT in 04...point is you can’t stay up forever no one can
Ross sashayed out after getting both clubs into GFs
GT ran out while stuffing as much cash from leave entitlements in his pockets as he could... (that he’d agreed to forfeit ...later claiming duress)..all from the man who “ate pressure for breakfast..”
