Re: Billings wants out
Not many left who were drafted under Richo
Good to see Clark sign, but he had a good long think about it also.
We have not developed those guys, and that is through a combination of injury timing (especially Coffield, D Mac and Billings) , and Sandringham being so rubbish and under-resourced
I hope Paton also stays, as his lock down game looks important given the rise of the small forward again.
Coffield hurts more than any of them, because his potential is high. Stocker has slipped into that role pretty well, but Coffield at his best is a better player.

Re: Billings wants out
Forgive me but has it actually been confirmed Billings wants out?
I know his manager suggested clubs should be asking about him as a value pick up but I haven't seen confirmation

Re: Billings wants out
He is contracted until 2025
Unless another club wants to take that on or we play part of the salary I can’t see a move
He does want a fresh start from all reports but not many takers
It will like be either he stays - particularly if Gresham leaves
Or
He is traded for a nothing pick and a club takes on his wage
Or
He I traded for a third rounder and we pay part of his salary

Re: Billings wants out
I doubt very much that we will need to pay any of Billings money if he leaves.
If he chooses to void his contract and play VFL elsewhere for less money, then that's his choice.

Re: Billings wants out
Jack Billing’s clearly wants out. However the problem for him is he’s got nowhere to go. One club expressed interest but it was lukewarm at best. Contrary to the views of many in this place, who really rate Billings, if he does manage to find another club to take him, he’s no great loss.

Re: Billings wants out
I kind of looked at this and thought…
Billings, Jones, Dmac
All in the list… best 22 with a huge support base.
All frequently injured with a myriad of excuses as to why they never consistently play the type of football they’re capable of.
My hope personally was that we would cut 2 of them loose and hang on to the other.
IMO Billings is the one that has most to offer and with Gresh gone… I reckon Billings could slot well into that spot.
Looks like Jones will be the one that survives

Re: Billings wants out
what ARE they capable of now?
not in the past.
..but we might never know. Surely, they won't retire? Maybe DMac?
JB might do a Steve Waugh..come back after back injury with half of his speed and shot repertoire gone but with the determination of spartan trooper..and somehow make a contribution. But if there is one thing he needs in that role, it is a clean boot.
Edit; I know diddly squat about the extent and consequnces of JB's back injury other than it happened, was serious enought to need treatment (I think surgery) and that sports pros with back injuries often suffer from 'flow-on' injuries to soft tissues due to mobility issues. THat in turn, leads to them either performing worse by choice (protection) or by fate psychological or physical (blowing out hammies , calves etc) So I am making a peanut guess here, and suggesting that JBs back has not helped his cause unfortunately.

I think Billings is capable of being as good if not better than Gresh.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Sat 14 Oct 2023 12:49pmwhat ARE they capable of now?

Re: Billings wants out
i think the distinct lack of interest by others clubs should be a reality check for billings and any who over rate him, as many do on here.
guy is a gop and held his place in a very weak saints team but is not someone you'd actively pursue.

Billings may well be the highest paid chip vegetable he'll ever manage.
A starch reminder.
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Re: Billings wants out
I think the only reason other clubs are baulking at Billings as a trade prospect is the fact he has two years to run on a lucrative contract!
Unless we pay half of that or more
He will not get to another club

Re: Billings wants out
Btw
Billings best is very good at AFL level
Playing in the the very difficult position of HF he has two seasons where he got 14 Brownlow votes

Re: Billings wants out
Probably more likely to go at the end of 2024, if there is any interest. 1 year contract is easier to manage than 2.

Re: Billings wants out
Perhaps we can ring the 17 other clubs who might not rate Billings 15 outstanding games his career delivered and remind them.
Maybe by some chance, he could put them all together in the back half of next season, if we pay for the other season, and he can rack up another 14 votes before he retires.

Re: Billings wants out
That’d be true except he shopped himself before re-signing with us and had no takers then
He’s 29? Vanilla gop

Re: Billings wants out
Do you think the credibility of Brownlow votes stack up after this years embarrassing debacle?, clearly if you take the umpires phone away from them their votes are about as credible as those given by SS posters and AFL fantasy points.

Re: Billings wants out
Umpires don’t use stats - that’s the problem
Judgement is subjective- evidence should be used
Either way, you can’t deny he’s played a lot of good AFL games
FFS
He kicked 4 in a quarter to win a game vs Footscray
Had 25 at 100% and kicked three in his first year (imagine if Phillipou did that?!)
He’s had 30 of a HFF

Re: Billings wants out
Yeah
But he’s not 29 like you said - in fact he’s just turned 28
You were exaggerating just to make your point - which needed a little more oomph
Question
Who had the better first year
Phillipou or Billings?
