Recruiters are key .... no more blaming coaches.

Mattaes might well be a future champion but a blind man can see he's needed a run in the reserves for some weeks.

Re: Match Thread Saints v Hawks Round 11 2023
Id rather we lose whilst playing Windy and/or Bytel and seeing if they're upto it then trotting out this current midfield who as a coolective haven't been getting it done for weeks now.
It puts pressure on everyone else (many of whom also didnt play well)
Coaches have enabled this malaise and need to take responsibility for it.

He should be given a stint at Sandy. After spilling the mark he dropped his head, turned his back and then watched as Sicily ran away with the ball from the kick in.

It’s my fault we are going so bad since the Collingwood gameWaltzing St Kilda wrote: ↑Sat 27 May 2023 5:40pm Mattaes might well be a future champion but a blind man can see he's needed a run in the reserves for some weeks.
I called for Mattaes to be rested and I called for Seb Ross and Brad Crouch to be managed
In light of Windy and Bytel’s good form in the VFL and Sebby and Crouch underperforming I was relentless with my posts for why Crouch and Ross should be dropped.
Obviously, takeaway got in Ross’s ear and said if scollop reckons they should be rested, you have to keep playing them

He was definitely an upgrade on Lonie…but
We never should have drafted him in the first place

I thought Membrey's game on Sicily was superb especially his marking.
But then we know how good Membey is at contested marks.

Insipid effort. Out coached as well. They just did what they wanted from one end to the other. Very painful to watch.
Ross trying to be too cute by not playing Membrey FFS.
Sucks to be us.

Re: Match Thread Saints v Hawks Round 11 2023
The early loss of Clark from our mid-field rotations put the pressure on our other mid-fielders to stand up.
As did the absence of Owens.
Some just did not.
And they need to be looked at.
Then you get to ball use particularly going forward (noting the number of marks a - so one - Hawthorn defender took).
I am of the view that the players who drive us are well known, are now the subject of scrutiny by opposition Coaches and that the lesser lights are being shown up.
I have contributed to this site that my view is that we are a KPP attacking player short, a KPP defender short, Ruck support for Marshall short plus we need a line breaking, goal kicking mid (or 2!!)
From last season we have lost Hannebery and Ryder who, whilst absent as they were, were first choice players because of their class.
We have not replaced this class, noting the promise of our kids is delivering.
But the likes of Wanganeen-Milera, Owens, Windhager, Phillipou are currently cream on the cake.
Billings and Coffield will add poise and class - but they have to get back.
And they do not answer the KPP, Ruck and mid-field deficiencies exposed again today.
On statistics alone, Gresham, Battle, Marshall, Ross, Sinclair and Steele were not to expectation.
These are not the kids, they are the core of our side (currently).
And when they are down it exposes the kids, kids who should be cream on the cake.
From history, this is the story of footy Clubs building sides.
And as they transition from ordinary to competitive to contending.
It was the reason Ratten put the pressure on the shoulders of the younger players to move past the ageing contingent.
We have a few other kids where we look forward to them putting their hands up.
As did the absence of Owens.

That was as bad as anything in the Ratten and Richie years!

I have to agree now
We have a good coach
We don’t have talent
Midfield is workmanlike at best
Better ball users needed

The 17th side could have done us by similar margin to Adelaide game.
You didn’t stop bagging Ratten for abortions like today’s, why does the current coaching group get off Scot free?

I thought their skills were better all day except for goal kicking.
If they kicked straight would have been the same as the crows.
What hurts most is that we still could have / should have won it.

Re: Match Thread Saints v Hawks Round 11 2023
Today was abysmal. Shameful performance. We lack serious midfield talent but there are also players out there that don't play for the jumper and bleed like the Collingwood players do.
They play like they're going through the motions and it's painful to watch.

So Teflon
Now it’s the players
Today, Hawthorn won from the coaches box
They murdered us at stoppage and handballed through zone

Membrey had served his week last weekend.
Owens was unable to play as this was his one week.
