This has Lethlean paw prints all over. Old Xaverians connection via his old man.
I’m sure we will do our due diligence on his body. Could be a 2 way package with McVeigh involved.
Moves would fix our leadership issues overnight.
If we got 10 -12 games outnof McVeigh as an onfield coach it would be a major win.

So would every other FA and expierenced player we trade for if that is your logic. Why even bother participating in the trade and FA agency periods then?iwantmeseats wrote: ↑Wed 08 Aug 2018 1:41pm Ridiculous. Too old.

That was the point I was trying to make earlier in this thread. What is the club's strategy? Are they trying to win it now, or to rebuild.
They cannot seem to make up their mind....youth or top ups like Brown.

Be a risk I think, if you are going to pay top money on 5 year deals the player has to be a topliner with no injuries. DH has done some hard yards and a top player but has dropped off. He may be stale at Sydney which is unlikely, Guessing he has an injury. K.Jack is in the same boat.

Re: 5 years Dan Hannebery?
We need to develop our list as it is weak (Refer Richos comments Saturday night, it was a weak performance), that means excluding broken down hacks from other clubs but working smart and harder at development, not piecemeal as has been evidenced under the current coaching and recruiting regime. There are no simple cures for the malaise we find ourselves. Not every available FA is going to solve our significant list problems. I agree totally with the OP.parkeysainter wrote: ↑Wed 08 Aug 2018 2:07pmSo would every other FA and expierenced player we trade for if that is your logic. Re: 5 years Dan Hannebery?
Rumours floating about say Adelaide are really keen for our 1st pick so they get either of the SA boys in Rankine or Lucozade this draft. For our 1st rounder, Adelaide would offer us a good senior player plus 1 of their 3 x top 20 picks which the Saints would in turn use on Hannerbrey. Just one possible scenario being talked about.

Would be an absolute stuff up to trade our early pick unless it’s for an A Grade midfielder.. We keep trying to turn early draft picks into 2 for 1 deals which inevitably end in two average players.
We need young elite talent....use pick 4/5 on that FFS you stupid bastards !

I know....lets do it again, try outsmart the successful clubs....and trade out a top 5 pick in a superdraft.

You're talking like we will do it. Its just one of many scenarios floating about. Crows are really keen on those SA kids and want an early pick. Some of those players you mentioned above also aren't even relevant.fugazi wrote: ↑Thu 09 Aug 2018 12:40amIm remembering Hickey,Tom Lee, Spencer White, Nathan Wright, Brodie Murdochparkeysainter wrote: ↑Thu 09 Aug 2018 12:13am Remember Carlisle and Gresham?

Personally, I would only swap a 2nd rounder (trade will have to be done to get one) or a future 2nd rounder for Hanners. Depends on how hard the Swans want to go though I guess.

Re: 5 years Dan Hannebery?
What if it was this?
Assuming only Gold Coast gets a compo pick and any Carlton priority pick is pick after their second round pick...
Pick 4 or 5 swapped for pick 8 or 9 (Adelaide's first) and the Lever pick (currently pick 15) with 15 going to Sydney for Hannebery?
Drop 4 spots in the draft and get Hannebery for nothing.
Pick 4 or 5 gets Adelaide one of the two top 5 Adelaide kids.
Pick 8 or 9 gets a kid around the same quality as 4 or 5 ...
I wouldn't swap a top 3 but this is worth some thought.

In the scenario rumour I mentioned, if we lost our pick 4 for say Hannerbrey and Mitch McGovern then I think I would be tempted also.

Hard to say as it’s a hypothetical but it sounds a lot more preferable to the hypothetical above which isn’t even worth commenting on.BackFromUSA wrote: ↑Thu 09 Aug 2018 12:46amWhat if it was this?

Re: 5 years Dan Hannebery?
Not a bad scenario. I would also be floating Dunstan and Newnes in the trade discussions to see if we could also try and get pick 37 from Adelaide. Come out of it with Pick 9, 37 and Hannebury for Pick 4 and Dunstan/Newnes. Dropping a few spots with our first pick mightn't be the worst thing in the world considering how many talls are predicted to go early. It would be disappointing if we lost the chance to get one of Walsh, Smith or Rankine if there isn't a mid of similar quality available later though.BackFromUSA wrote: ↑Thu 09 Aug 2018 12:46amWhat if it was this?

Re: 5 years Dan Hannebery?
As posted already, for me the only relevant consideration is whether Hannebery can still play football at an elite level. There's no evidence that he can. By all means trade out pick 4 if any club is silly enough to give us two first round picks for it but can we please only on-trade one of those selections for someone who has played quality football for their club within the last 18 months and can kick the ball to a team mate.

There's no evidence to suggest that Dan can not still play at the level either, only the fact he is battling injury, which is just that, injury!!!!!Hemi Baxter wrote: ↑Thu 09 Aug 2018 12:53pm As posted already, for me the only relevant consideration is whether Hannebery can still play football at an elite level. Re: 5 years Dan Hannebery?
The evidence regarding Dan Hannebery is damning. Longmire and the Swans tried to give him multiple opportunities to regain his form after his injuries. They realised that they cannot afford to keep Hannebery in the team because his form was putrid and he may never play to the standard we remembered from 2011-2016.stonecold wrote: ↑Thu 09 Aug 2018 2:08pmThere's no evidence to suggest that Dan can not still play at the level either, only the fact he is battling injury, which is just that, injury!!!!!Hemi Baxter wrote: ↑Thu 09 Aug 2018 12:53pm As posted already, for me the only relevant consideration is whether Hannebery can still play football at an elite level. There's good reason to be negative. 5 years into a rebuild and look where we are. We want to take senior players who are struggling to earn a game for their team. Nathan Brown was also on the outer before we got him. Instead of aiming for the discarded fools gold we should be looking for talent that has not been discovered. Why do we employ recruiters if they cannot find or recruit any undiscovered jewels?
Actually...I know the answer. I have no doubt this is all Richo driven
