So the poor decisions were made earlier WRT salary cap management. My understanding is that length of contract was the main sticking point.
Say it again
You can judge a club by the players desire to stay associated with it..
Anytimw you lose a player of that ability... The question of why must be addressed!!

And i thought Geelong had won 3 of the last 5 flags. And I thought the Crows finished high up on the ladder last year.

Re: Goddards managers comments.
When in 2011 was it reported that BJ had a hip injury. He played well below his capability in 2011 and 12 becuase he was sooking. He left the club becuase he wanted to play in a position of his choice, win a premiership and collect as much cash as he could. It's a no brainer why he left. Most football players would probably do the same.

This time, however, a post-season operation on a hip cartilage tear he sustained in the Round 1 game against Geelong meant he had time to reflect.

I think Watson, BJ, Zaharakis, Heppell, Melksham and Hocking as a tagger will be pretty decent personally.maverick wrote:Who are their mids?SainterK wrote:Their rucks and mids look OK to me....

Re: Goddards managers comments.
Mark Maclure said on FOX last night that Essendon's paying of $850,000 a year over four years for a guy who is 28 in May reeks of desperation. He then went on to say that Goddard never wins his own ball and doesn't exert an influence over a game. He also said he doesn't like the way he goes about his footy. Maclure is an astute judge and I respect his opinion.
On the opposite side of the coin is the fact that of our very good players in 2009 Luke Ball is now at Collingwood, Goddard at Essendon, Gram at North Albury, Dawson has gone to Freo, youngster Cripps at West Coast, FB Maxie Hudgton and Steven Baker have both retired. Add to this big Fraser and Harvs retiring in 2008 and there has been a real changing of the guard.

Only players worth that sort of coin IMHO would be:
Franklin
Ablett
a younger Judd or Cox
Bombers should take a history lesson...........early 70's Melbourne....... Diamond Jim Tilbrook!

Hey I would have preferred that he stayed as well.SainterK wrote:

I also prefer to keep my wife, but if she starts spending $50K per month on the credit card I would have to reconsider
I can afford my wife's current spend, but the club could not afford BJ's increased demands.

Too true but please apply same standards to Riewoldt's pointing and scowling.
It can't be leadership in one and dummy spitting in the other!

Watson is A grade
Zharakis is B
Melksham very raw
Hocking very average
C grade midfield for mine, ours is better and is no more than a B.

Re: Goddards managers comments.
I remember that article well. It was written during the 2012 pre season and was a puff piece his management orchestrated. The hip thing was news to everyone and that article was the first time it had been reported and was largely seen as an excuse for his sulky p1ss poor effort in 2011. He had made the decision to leave in 2011.SainterK wrote:http://www.heraldsun.com.au/afl/more-ne ... 6272092142Cairnsman wrote:When in 2011 was it reported that BJ had a hip injury.

Stanton is a bit like Carazzo or joey -seriously under rated player. They have several guys like Davey, Lovett Murray, Jetta who can have a run on the ball too.maverick wrote:BJ and heppell are not mids, back ups for very short stints.SainterK wrote:I think Watson, BJ, Zaharakis, Heppell, Melksham and Hocking as a tagger will be pretty decent personally.maverick wrote: Who are their mids?

ah.....carazzo...one of my favorite footballers......when he was running around in the under 18's i foolishly suggested that maybe we should consider drafting him........i was howled down....told that he would never make an afl footballer , basically whilst his arse still pointed to the ground.....what would i know.??...then geelong drafted him as a rookie after no-one picked him up......later they cut him loose...and someone with an astute football brain at the scumbags pounced on him.......best and fairest...maybe captain........guess i might have been right.......gringo wrote:

Good call now in hind sight. I have no idea how good he was then but he's a gun now. I saw Adam Goodes play for Nth balarat and thought this guy will go top 2 in the draft and he went late in the end. He could take the hit out rove his own ball run it in and goal. Like a 6' 6" Judd mixed with Natanui. No one believed me how good he was at the time.

Re: Goddards managers comments.
Have not read all the posts and this may have been covered - but the talk of 13 possesions and being a Godsend seem like a total beat up - I watched 5 mins of the essndon/dogs game he got about 5 possy's while I watched - 3 in about 1 min - all totally unmarked cheap stats around the backline - he did use it very well no doubt about that - but in a real game he won't be left by himself - any good coach knows that they key to nullifying Goddard is playing a tight tag - he hates it and performs badly
Re: Goddards managers comments.
Well Stanton and Jobe will enjoy that....saint6709 wrote:but in a real game he won't be left by himself - any good coach knows that they key to nullifying Goddard is playing a tight tag - he hates it and performs badly
That's the thing, can't tag them all.
I still can't believe Saints fans think he is so ordinary, I guess we'll see.

Re: Goddards managers comments.
Milne gets on the end of that one in GF1 and Goddard is now one of the immortals.
Born to play GFs, probably end up like Buckley leaving Bris for premiership glory at filth!

Re: Goddards managers comments.
I remember a few games where BJ exerted influence and won his own ball?!
One game in particular....
In fact that game would be a better game than McClure would have ever dreamed of
Goddards a gun
It's that simple.... He's worth 700k

Yes I think it was the additional year on the contract, and more $$, plus the third party deal with Toll I believe. Doubt the Saints could match that or whether they really wanted to.....
To whoever quoted MaClure, of the rare times I've heard him speak, he seemed like the biggest try-hard ever.
So now it's $850k per year, why not say $900k make up any old figure? I don't buy it that he gets that much.
Nor will I ever believe Goddard can't find his own footy.
No Contract, No contact
