The only rumour I've read so far that seems worth listening to is a couple of people commenting that "it's the quietest trade week" they've been to (Brisbane, and good ol' Matty Rendell).
O'Keefe - if nobody gives up a first, Syndey and O'Keefe will work things out for another year. Top shelf player, he isn't going for a 2nd (most interesting rumour I've read is Boyle & pick 16 for O'Keefe, but name reports seem to indicate the Hawks haven't decided whether pick 16 is available, and Sydney hasn't specified a player yet, so it's interesting for making sense, not for being likely).
I guess Harris might be of interest (i.e. he provides clearance power which we need), but I wonder whether the asking price takes into account his inconsistency.
I'd be curious about what it would take to get Boyle, but I would be hoping Allen would be able to make the team for '09, there wouldn't be room for both, and either will be useless if we can't get them the ball.
Otherwise it seems business as usual. The guys worth trading for aren't going anywhere, and the picks worth making them available are being held onto. In St Kilda's case I personally hope to see this continue.

I'm not sure trades should be the focal point.GrumpyOne wrote:Several of our past trades require viewing through rose coloured glasses.fingers wrote:Sometimes trades need to be seen through a different lens.GrumpyOne wrote:If there was I reckon you could see straight through them.Spinner wrote:As long as there aren't any long term injury issues with Hamish (which im spectacle about)

Yes If they were to trade someone, it should be for draft picks - unless they can get Harris cheap
No Contract, No contact
Agreed, we should not be adopting a myopic view of the trading process. There may come into view several trading options that were not envisioned at first sight, and deserve more than a passing glance. It is important that we are not blinkered to opportunities, nor have the shades pulled over our eyes. We must have a clear vision of where we want to end up, or we could be left on the outside looking in.fingers wrote:I'm not sure trades should be the focal point.GrumpyOne wrote:Several of our past trades require viewing through rose coloured glasses.fingers wrote:Sometimes trades need to be seen through a different lens.GrumpyOne wrote:If there was I reckon you could see straight through them.Spinner wrote:As long as there aren't any long term injury issues with Hamish (which im spectacle about)

Harris... more of what we've already got IMO. He's a tough bastard though. It's such a good, deep draft that even a 3rd rounder could be a real gem. It's a real risk to trade any picks away IMO.
We need hard nosed jets in the midfield now. Blokes that can win the contested footy, break away & use it to our forwards advantage.

Agreed... we should get a jet in the draft and use cousins for now to educate them on how hard to work on the FIELD (not off)sunsaint wrote:For the last time...Cousins...Animal Enclosure wrote:Prismal maybeBatnoe wrote:You couldnt go past a fit Prismal

Absolutely, that's quite transparent. Glaringly obvious. If we don't grab it now we may end up in the casement. Double hung.

Hard-nosed jets !
Jets that split open the midfield sounds exactly what the Saints could use.
Cousins to me is a very tempting enigma but i would want to know a lot more about his rehabilitation before commiting.
Cousins would shine @ St.K. with the strong midfield around him. He could very conceivably swing 3 or 4 games our way and help us push into a top 2 ladder position.
Rossi is a calm character but not a push over and Cousins could well find his rehabilitation easier to achieve @ St.K. than the likes of collingwood for example. The St.K. 'culture' seems nicely safe n' secure @ present.
If the club committed to Cousins he would obviously be the main pre-season draft story of 2008

The boy can play and we can build a defence around him that will have respect.

Now that would be the dream result.hAyES wrote:If we could somehow come away with Cousins and Harris, I would be a very happy man. Harris is a good inside player that we really need, and Cousins is a gun inside and out. We are a long way behind the best teams as far as midfield depth goes so the more quality we get, the better.
I want to stand for something. I'm a loyal person and I think at the end of my career it will be great to look back and know that I'm a St Kilda person for life.
