Against Frankston.
Yep Franston who are a game clear of Sandringham on the ladder. McMahon is not getting huge stats either but at least he is showing signs of becoming a key forward, the player we drafted Allison to become.

Recents draftees Sandringham reviews -

Cooper Sharman

“He was pretty good for his first game.
“He’s pretty lively and a natural forward. He knows where space is and how to create it.
“We had him playing up high and on the off-ball side a fair bit, but he played that role really well.
“He impacted with the ball when he had to, and he played his defensive part with his patterns of attack on the ball, and he did the role required of him.
“He’s a great young kid and did pretty well for his first game with a new system, new coaches, new teammates, a new oval, new everything.
“It was pretty pleasing to see and hopefully a good start to a long career for Cooper.”

Matt Allison

“Matty is progressing well.
“He’s had a couple of weeks where he’s been able to play with Darragh and Clav, and a couple of other experienced defenders at Sandy.
“We’re just keeping it really basic with him, things like getting to the correct side on defence, competing well in the air.
“The more consistent they get, the more we can start to progress the development of his other defensive traits.
“He’s picking it up really quickly, he’s desperate to learn and he’s heading in the right direction.”

Doesnt sound like a kid who has a great footballing IQ & plays like it. He has been playing game his whole life and doesnt know what side of his opponent he should be and encouraged to compete in the air, thats park footballing stuff!

Hardly did you read the Sharman comments?

I will post positive about the kid when he shows one ounce of the talent he was meant to have when we drafted him. Until then I am firmly of the opinion the kid has no natural footballing talent.

Did you notice the positives I posted regarding Highmore after his last game? It seems you only concentrate on those posts you dont like Saynta.

What does seeing him in live have to do with it? You obviously havent or you would be claiming otherwise!

If he was a Cat B rookie in his first year of footy you could forgive his lack of ticker and footballing IQ. But hes not, he was actually a 1st round draft selection and from what I have seen a very poor one. Its not just about him its about our clubs inability to nail our draft picks year after year. For reasons only they will know, but our recruiters keep selecting players to fit a position rather than BEST Available.

NAB League Super Rankings: See this season’s top 50 performers and the best from Round 11

Four highly rated AFL draft prospects were among the NAB League standouts at the weekend.
Josh Rachele booted a season-high six goals to lead the Murray Bushrangers to a 16-point victory over Josh Ward’s Northern Knights.

Ward maintained his hot form with a match-high 35 disposals and eight clearances to amass 154 KFC SuperCoach points, behind only Rachele’s 179 for the most in the match.

They are both tipped to be inside the first 20 selections in this year’s AFL Draft, as are the in-form Ben Hobbs and Finn Callaghan, who are pushing towards the pointy end.

Hobbs has returned from an ankle setback in brilliant touch in the past three weeks, including amassing a combined 71 disposals in two games for Greater Western Victoria Rebels then in Vic Country’s trial match.

The 17-year-old midfielder wasn’t quite as prolific for the Rebels on Saturday, but still had 24 disposals, nine groundball-gets and 138 ranking points in a losing cause.

Another one to watch is Callaghan, who had 28 disposals and five score involvements in Sandringham Dragons’ 38-point win over Tasmania.

SEN are reporting that Max LYNCH Collingwood is out of contract at season is looking at his options. He would be the perfect partner for Marshall when Paddy retires. Rory LOBB is also open to a move from Freo but he is contracted and would cost too much trade wise.

The above is obviously subject to any Ben King movement this year. It would make it interesting for Ratten to fit both Kings, a resting ruckman, Membrey and possibly Wood or Battle in attack.

Would be look at Riccardi or Weideman if Ben wasn’t coming??
Maybe lack of chat around those two means Ben is a lock..?

Would be looking at Riccardi for sure

We need a forward/ruckman as a priority and I dont think either can play the 2nd ruck roll. Riccardi has been playing defence for the GWS VFL side and I imagine the club rates Highmore/Clavarino/Joyce as key talls? Particularly Clavarino has shown lots of improvement this year and is worth persisting with IMO.

Not sure a ruck forward is a must.
If you can get a genuine forward, surly marshal can ruck full time.
Also riccardi kicked 8 a few weeks ago
He is a forward

I think a good ruckman is a must. Gosh look at the beautiful tap work displayed by Paddy Ryder. Wouldn’t be great to find a younger version of Paddy?

Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

We had a young ruck with beautiful soft hands like Ryder. His ruck craft was brilliant but didn’t get enough of the footy. Copped a heap of criticism on here now we’re applauding Ryders work.

You are kidding surely Curly? Longer was the laziest footballer ever to pull on a Saints jumper, he made Capuano look good. Brisbane must have been laughing when they off loaded him.

Ryder is the best ruckman we have had since Gardiner!

I agree. His ruckwork in 2017 was first class and he handed it on a platter to Seb and Stuv and others. He needed to work on becoming a footballer as well as just a bloke who jumps and wins the footy

It's unfortunate he couldn't take his hand off his joystick long enough to realise he was a professional footballer ( y'know...the Playstation and XB box thingy)

We have had some drafting shockers in the past, but in more recent years we have also had some big wins late in the draft and via trades -

Per Lewdog on BF -

1. Steele traded for pick 27. Probably the best trade in the history of the club.
2. Marshall rookie draft.
3. Wilkie rookie draft.
4. Highmore pick 45.
5. Byrnes pick 52.
6. Pick 10 traded for Ben Long, Josh Battle and Hunter Clark.
7. Traded in Howard and Ryder for the equivalent of pick 22.
8. Zak Jones for the equivalent of pick 43.
9. Crouch for nothing.

Added:

10. Leo Connolly pick 64 looks a player.
11. Max Heath a mid season draftee is a long term prospect but had a blinder last weekend, 22 disposals, 9 marks, 27 hitouts & 2 goals.
12. Gresham & Carlisle for an early 1st round pick.

A source very close to Paddy has revealed that Ryder is very keen on playing 300 games. He is currently on 257.
