Pretty well spot on. Though Jones has been excellent and so lineball between him and Howard.
And Ryder was always just steak knives and still is.

I thought Ryder’s tap-work was pivotal to our win last night, particularly in the last quarter.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Tue 21 Jul 2020 10:53pmPretty well spot on. Though Jones has been excellent and so lineball between him and Howard.

Re: Howard the steal of the trade period
All 5 have been fantastic great work and even last year Max King and Callum Wilkie not mentioning Jack Bytel and Ryan Byrnes who have made some noise as big potentials.
Go back to Hunter Clark and Nick Coffield we have down some decent work last few years makes up for the disaster of Mc Cartin and Hugh Goddard..

Ryder has been pivotal in winning two of the matches he has played......against the Doggies and Adelaide.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Tue 21 Jul 2020 10:53pmPretty well spot on. Though Jones has been excellent and so lineball between him and Howard.

Butler
Howard
Ryder / Jones
Hill
I'm confident that Hill will bridge the gap and be that icing we need. Perhaps he likes performing in front of crowds? A Norm Smith will complete his resume.
I also believe Jones has a lot more to give PLUS Hannebery if he can string 4+ games together.

Butler and Jones have definitely shown the most so far.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Wed 22 Jul 2020 10:29am Butler

Howard really stepped up Monday night, was going along ok before then.
I don't think Hill is giving us any more than Acres at this point. Maybe we should give him a run in the ruck?

Re: Howard the steal of the trade period
Hill is on a long term contract. He is experienced and will turn it on when it matters. Whether some believe or even don't want to believe it, his role is not to do everything and get run down in his first 2 years.
We had Ross for that but what did that do? It gives us false, unsustainable benchmarks and just stifles the development of the younger players and breaks guy like Ross.
While Hill isn't starring and Ross isnt racking up endless 30 possession games, as a team, we are entering into top 5 stat categories that make winning sustainable. We are actually developing a game plan, we are only 7 games in and the intent is obvious. By years end it will be noted and by next year it will renowned. Bookmark that!

Ryder's a smart, thoroughly professional, mercenery (and I mean that in a nice way) ruckman. Consummate professional.StPeter wrote: ↑Wed 22 Jul 2020 2:23amRyder has been pivotal in winning two of the matches he has played......against the Doggies and Adelaide.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Tue 21 Jul 2020 10:53pmPretty well spot on. Re: Howard the steal of the trade period
A young Howard may be an excellent trade for Andrews but I think now he is getting a bit long in the tooth for a premiership and is quarantined up north.
The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

Re: Howard the steal of the trade period
My only concern of Howard and it's very picky. I find he goes to hard at everything in the air all the time. Sometimes he has to stay on the ground and guard the loose ball. Very picky just my observation,

Re: Howard the steal of the trade period
Might be picky but the point is valid. It happened once on Monday... can’t remember the exact spot but all three defenders including Howard launched into the aerial contest and each other with ball ending up in the hands of the opponents that stayed down.
Always looks bad.
Hopefully it’s just some teething problems for a defence getting itself together

Re: Howard the steal of the trade period
Paton was the one who should have stayed down, if it is the one in the goal square but he got caught off balance and turning, then committed himself. His man kicked the goal.skeptic wrote: ↑Wed 22 Jul 2020 5:00pmMight be picky but the point is valid. Howard has the height and the leap, he should be first up.skeptic wrote: ↑Wed 22 Jul 2020 5:00pmMight be picky but the point is valid. Carlisle has perfect judgement, height but not much leap he is 2nd up if needed.
It is the job of defenders to guard the ground ball.
It's a team game and everyone has a role it in a pack situation.

Re: Howard the steal of the trade period
Christ, and a lot of Saints fans were complaining we would never recruit any good players from other clubs. Now we can rate we have so many! Keep the faith.

Glad we didn’t listen to the nuff nuffs that were bagging him early and didn’t want to play him

Re: Howard the steal of the trade period
Yep. Very good except for a bit if a brain explosion for about 5 minutes after Dixon out marked him. Seemed to rattle him a bit but got it back together and he was very good again.
