Extra time is a disgrace. Most who went to our preseason draw against Collingwood in 06 felt the same way back then. Not just because we lost but because the quarters were over in a snap and were played on such defensive terms.
I could stand having a fifth quarter with a second coin toss to decide the directions. The players would be smashed by the end, but it is the last game of the year. I prefer it this way though. Maxwell can cry all he wants, but they weren't playing to win in that last minute.

Yeah, I agree.perfectionist wrote:I like the idea of a replay. We have changed too many of our traditions already.
We were out on our feet in the last quarter, and one less rotation due to the Gardiner injury. I think a Replay is better for us than an extra quarter.

Well, we SHOULD have known, but for some reason I was sitting there expecting extra time. Took a few seconds of confusion before I realised what had happened.AP Erebus wrote:This is going to be the argument of the week... my thing is this:
We knew what would happen if it was a draw. It's not like the AFL is springing this on us now.
Get over it.
I don't know what I'd prefer. Too numb to think I guess.
I do think we had the momentum and extra time probably would have gone our way.
I'll know what I prefer after the result next week.
Shattered dreams are just opportunities for improvement. Live and learn, fail and try harder. 2011 beckons.

Probably the curators need time to put the drop-in pitch in and prepare the outfield ahead of the cricket season.vacuous space wrote:No third GF. There will be extra time if there is a draw next week. I find that odd.

If the MCG gives cricket any preference over footy, they're out of their minds. While a GF threeplay may not attract as many, they'd still be able to sell tens of thousands of tickets at premium prices.battye wrote:Probably the curators need time to put the drop-in pitch in and prepare the outfield ahead of the cricket season.
Personally, I think it's just AD sitting on the fence. And again, I think their extra time scenario is terrible.

That's not my point.degruch wrote:5 more minutes = Saints by 18 points. Disgrace.
Of course, I would've wanted us to win in extra time, but either way, we most likely would have had a premier at the end.
If extra time can't sort out a winner, then sure, have a replay.....but in extra time, the game at some stage is likely to break open through exhaustion, and a winner should be found...

Love the replay next week. I know it can get expensive, but just think how many extra Saints fans will get a chance to watch it next week?
This is a game that will be remembered for many years to come and those of us lucky enough to attend will say 'remember when.....'
It is tradition, leave it as it is. Time on would have ruined a fantastic match and unusual finish.

The most annoying thing about a draw is that whatever happens next week, today's GF sort of will be forgotten. One of the best ever - last years was the best - but now its pushed aside because of the non-result.
Win or lose today, all the great highlights and gutsy performances would be remembered. Even BJ's mark will now be 'from the first GF' and nothing else.
Lenny's NS will be pushed into the shadows by next week's winner - unless he wins it again!
While I'm here, Eddy has to be dropped - had his chance. Maybe bring Ben, or Jack Steven. Bakes will be better for the run.
