Collingwood supporters.
Unfortunately I had a look at bigfooty before.
Overconfident is the word.
I can only hope their football side feels the same way.

Yep, they all think they are certs. Just like they thought Swan was a cert. They are entitled to be favourites for the flag, for the same reason that we were last year - performance throughout the year. But they don't have the twin towers, and we do. With that bit of luck that we didn't have last year on the big day, we might just do it - but we're no certs.

I can assure you they are not.
I was hoping they would get a big head too. Watching them on Friday night it is clear they know there is still a very big job to do. They won't be getting ahead of themselves.
Their body langauge and mannerisms tell me they will go into this game feeling confident they can win but not thinking all they have to do is show up. They understand how much they need to work for it.
However, I do think they are unaware just how big this occasion is for them. A Grand Final, the big stage. I dare say they should be a little bit shaken up early on. We need to take advantage of this and just pummel them in those opening minutes - if we can get out to an early three or four goal break we will be halfway to the cup.

It's funny but they only finished two games ahead of us and if we'd won the last clash we played against them, we'd be on equal points!perfectionist wrote:They are entitled to be favourites for the flag, for the same reason that we were last year - performance throughout the year.
So...is there really that much difference between us?

I have a very strong feeling that St Kilda will walk away with the flag, quiet easily. I think that collingwood have gotten way too ahead of themselves this year, and have peaked all year like the saints did last. We know what we have to do to win, and the boys are hungry for the more than last year, as they know the pain of loosing a grandfinal, especially after last years amazing performance all year.
Collingwood you are going down! 2010 is unfortunately not your year pies, come back when you know how to vs a real time, eg: the might SAINTS:)

St Kilda play with heart and soul, and for the fans, collingwood play for what...? its obvious.goods wrote:they are the most arrogant supporters I have ever witnessed... they just expected D Swan last night to win, they just expect to win sat. 5 prelims in 7 years. 40 wins from 49 games.
2009 and 2010 were 2 of the 5 best years ever by the St.Kilda FC.
Thanks for all your efforts Saints.

Seems to me like they are getting ahead of themselves.
he is the capitan, he must act confident, to give the young kids confidence. Roo should and would be the same!

I'd be disappointed of that came out of our club.saintlee wrote:Frankly, I would have been stunned if he had said anything different. He could have been far more diplomatic and say something like...
The Saints are a great team and have been the defensive yard stick for the competition. However we believe that, if we stick to our plans, we can beat anyone.
Same outcome, far more humble approach.
Think your being a tad sensitive. I would have no problem with Rooey saying exactly the same thing.Life Long Saint wrote:I'd be disappointed of that came out of our club.saintlee wrote:Frankly, I would have been stunned if he had said anything different. I'd like my club not to appear arrogant and give the opposition anything that could be used against us. Maxwell's comment smacks of a team giving us no respect. I hope that we beat this mob for so many reasons including teaching them a lesson in humility.

I don't understand people getting so upset with comments like Maxwells. Its straight forward answer to a straight forward question. He thinks the pies will win, fair enough, he should, he's their captain.

I can tell you that I am not upset about about it...I merely stated that I don't think he should have said it.saintlee wrote:Clearly its my opinion.

the comment goes further than thinking they will win because if he doesn't think that then why bother coming? He has "no doubt" they will...huge difference and totally disrespectful.
The comment is just in step with the sentiments of the OP...Overconfident!
I hope that the feeling spills from the supporters to the players and comments like Maxwell's give me that hope.

Everything about their team smacks of arrogance, from the President, to the CEO, to the Coach, to the players.
And that then filters down to hordes of feral filth followers.
That's why it will be so sweet when we beat them and the reality finally dawns on them.

Deep down whether it is hope or resignation but i am quite calm about the confidence Collingwood and the media are showing. On SEN Monday they were talking about how are they going to sack Malthouse if they were to go back to back. I thought to myself i do not normally call radio shows but will love to call this one next monday and remind them of the conversation.
No one has rated StKilda all year. Lets hope the boys have one left in them to cause the upset that many will call it , but the deserved victory thatthe fans will know

Peaking all year ? Full of arrogance ?? Ahead of themselves ?? Maybe so ,, however ,,
You do have to admit they have been pretty awesome as a unit and getting better in the finals.
IIRR , on Saturday night our kicking efficiency for the year was pegged at 77% , yet on sat nite it was the lowest all year at 49%.
We are going to have to string all qtrs together like the 3rd to be a chance here.
Seems with a bit of moisture around our ball handling and delivery is poor. I pray for a dry day with a dry track.

From all that I've read, heard and seen the Pies do seem very sure about themselves and it could easily lead to their own undoing.
Personally I think we're up against it and whilst I'm hopeful and excited I am going into the match thinking we'll lose...perhaps it's to guard against being too disappointed. I don't know. I'm going to be disappointed anyway if we lose.
I think that Maxwell's comments were arrogant and I am certain Nick would've been more diplomatic and respectful of the opposition in response to the same question.

The safe answer he probably should have given was:
"The Saints are a great team and it's a grand final so we're not expecting it to be easy by any stretch of the imagination. We are very confident that if we play like we know we can that we're definitley in with a strong chance of winning".

Just let them keep talking. Seriously, they will talk themselves into thinking its in the bag and forget about the hard work.
