Hopefully this is the case again.. I am still in shock how so many people are willing to bend over and be booted up the backside with thisbigred wrote:This. We should simply refuse to wear anything other than our traditional jumper
Our almighty silent president has said this in the past. For finals matches.
To just accept it, hello we are talking 130 plus years of history and people are happy to have it in a mainly white jumper.
NOT ACCEPTABLE but its just my opinion

Clash jumper at the Grand Final?

Is it correct that we will be wearing our 'clash' strip against Collingwood in the Grand Final this weekend? Rob from #@###
Dear Rob,
Collingwood has had a stand out season, finishing on top of the ladder, so as a consequence they have priority choice of jumper for the Grand Final. Therefore we will be wearing our clash jumper.
However, we have been advised by the AFL that in the event that we win the match, we will be able to change into our traditional Saints jumper for presentation and photographic purposes.
Cheers,
Michael

This is a really weak effort by the club.
It's a Grand Final FFS where we are supposed to be on level playing field, the entire season forgotten. Our normal jumper with white shorts won't clash!! What, they think the spectators and TV viewers won't be able to see the difference between white and black shorts??
I know this a small thing, but it has really rubbed me the wrong way. Another example of AFL bias towards Collingwood

5 prelims in 7 years. 40 wins from 49 games.
2009 and 2010 were 2 of the 5 best years ever by the St.Kilda FC.
Thanks for all your efforts Saints.

Only happened because of the damn Collingwood jumper change in 2001, and our ridiculous change to the hot-cross buns jumper in 97 which is coming back to bite us on the bum now4ever_saint wrote:This is a really weak effort by the club.

I think its pretty bad too. What would have happened if we were the higher team. Do you think Eddie would have allowed the pies to wear their clash strip. Did they wear it in the finals last year when we played them? I can't remember now.
And are we really going to change into a different jumper if we win as that email says. Sounds a bit corny to me. If we win in that jumper, the presentation etc should be in that.

at least vent your spleens to the club....dropped an email as follows;
Attention: Michael Nettlefold
Dear Michael,
I am extremely disappointed to learn we are wearing our clash strip for the grand final.
I believe our traditional strip ( with white shorts) provides an adequate contrast to Collingwood. Obviously if Collingwood wore their traditional strip ( i.e. white back) it would not be an issue.
Can we simply tell the AFL we will wear our strip of choice? We should not lie down of this. It was hard enough to lose the 1997 Grand Final but wearing that silly cross strip did not help.
Please rethink this and lodge a complaint with the AFL.
Kind Regards

Yes. They only changed into their current jumper in 2001. All their premierships were won in white with black stripes.SydneySainter wrote:So would it be more fair for the Pies to wear the clash strip?SaintPav wrote:stay in sydney thenSydneySainter wrote:I think it's fair.

Fair argument. I still think it looks good. It's just our traditional home strip but with a wider white panel, white sleeves and a white back. It actually commemorates our heritage (bar the white back), as it's based on our jumper design from the 50s.dcstkfc wrote:Yes. They only changed into their current jumper in 2001. I think people need to keep things in perspective, as it could much worse. Imagine if we were wearing our 07-08 clash strip.

...and wouldn't the ladies love it. Of course, Collingwood would be no shirts, as they're just so hot right now (FIGJAM).saintbrat wrote:shirts and No shirts used to work for Some as distinguishing feature I am informed.degruch wrote:Don't quite get the obsession with clash strips...I'd rather we not be confused with the opposition. Agreed.markp wrote:It's still closer to our 'traditional' jumper than what we played the '97 season and GF in.
It seems reasonable to me anyway... they finished on top, they get the kudos, they get to wear their home strip, we get to wear our clash strip, we get the flag.
Some are turning this clash jumper thing into a storm in a teacup.
What jumper we wear is the LEAST of our issues.
