THE miraculous recovery of Western Bulldogs defender Dale Morris is almost complete, with a positive medical report boosting his chances of playing in Saturday night's preliminary final.

Morris emerged from a visit to spinal specialist Dr Peter Wilde with the green light to play - as long as he completes training this week without discomfort.

I hope he does not play for a number of reasons.

Back injuries are the worst you could cop. Hopefully he doesn't wear a knee to the back otherwise it could ruin his footy career

I think the context he was using the expression was when comparing injuries in relation to the ability to keep running at training?
Needless to say, everytime he seemingly opens his mouth he seems to put his large foot in it.

for all those saying he is putting his health at risk long term I belive he has the same kind of injury as Plugger had when he backed into the post all those years ago.
His spinal cord is not at risk, there is no way the club would risk it. The risk in playing him is that he may re injure the same spot and set him back another 6-8 weeks, no big deal given the context of the season.

The real risk (for the Doggies) is that he reinjures the same spot in the first quarter and they're one man short for the rest of the game.

Lot was said about Taylor against Roey; I hope he learned a lesson a couple of week ago, so much so that he was complaining that he mates were not helping him.

Jordan Roughhead looked like he could have played seniors from watching vfl last weekend but his form was pretty average. Dale Morris to use an analogy from another famous Morris is like the crappy english made vehicle from the mid 20th century, he is given more attention than his poor reliability would suppose. If he takes on Nick R he will be taking on some fine German engineered luxury motoring with the biggest engine going around. 13 litres of supercharged Teutonic precision will show why the morris minor that has been sitting on blocks for the last month should have stayed in the driveway.

Am I the only one that hopes the Dogs play Morris on Saturday and watch a guy with a busted vertebrae given the run around by one of the greatest athletes in the AFL and then have one of the biggest lugs running around put a knee in his back while crashing a pack for a contested grab ?

As others have pointed out, Reiwoldt has the honours in that matchup. Bigtime. Personally, I think Morris overrated, closer to a Jason Blake than a Sam Fisher, but subjective aside, to roll the dice on an injury as serious as that is at least bordering on irresponsible...

I get that the Dogs are in atough spot injury wise, but even the Sandilands v Geelong situation doesn't adequatly describe the risk they'd be taking with this guys back, on the chance that he's fit enough to run around with Reiwoldt, and on the chance he does better against Reiwoldt than he ever has before...

What other options are there?

Morris, if he plays - BIG IF - simply doesn't have form on Roo nor can he be expected to go with Roo for two hours after a lay off.

Lake is their best defender. He has to take Roo.

Williams is logical on Kosi.

Otherwise they have Murphy who'll they'll surely play fwd or else try to free up, Hargrave (who they may use on a shorter opponent), and Harbrow...

I'm not sure they have much choice really unless they extract Boyd from the middle and give him a defensive post.
