Lenny didn't get in... WGAF? Move on...
Why do people care so much about these 'individual' awards?
These are awarded by people who played the games when dinosaurs were roaming around. They have no idea about the current game, about what players are recognised most for in a club situation.
These 'experts' see the stats and judge on that. Lenny's hardball gets, bumps, hard tackles etc just go down as small stats. The leadership he provides compared to most the players who were selected is second to none, but, once again it's all about how they look in the paper.
So, get over this selection and move on. I bet Lenny has, I'm sure he's one not to linger on such a small thing.
To see Lenny with a Premiership Medal around his neck will mean an absolute s***load more than any silly little trophy and a guernsey in a stupid Mickey Mouse competition in the off season.
Go for the big prize Lenny, and show these clowns why you are more valuable to this side than these other players to theirs.
FORTIUS QUO FIDELIUS 2010!

They walk amongst us...
I get the vibe of your post HSV, but this guy didn't just miss out on AA, he should of been AA captain IMO.
I can guarantee that all Lenny's focus will be on beating the Dogs Saturday night at this particular moment, but as a supporter, I feel annoyed this honour has been denied him.
At least some of the 'dinosaurs' are moving on at years end hey...

But that's the point I'm making.
The players would be saying 'It's an honour' etc, but I reckon most of them only turn up because they have to.
They know who picks the side etc. Why not have the players pick the side just like they do the AFLPA MVP? Would get a much better side. The players know who the best are, not these suited up media robots.
I'd rather St Kilda have NONE in this side, and be concentrating on the REAL team.

Symbolic of the lack of respect shown towards our footy club.
I doubt if we even won the premiership we'd be given respect and accolades. It would be about how stiff the opposition was.
Had a gut full, i just want to win the flag to stick it up all there collective a$ses, then sail off into the sunset and live happily ever after

Bah, who cares how i've worded it.HSVKing wrote:3-4 over the hill ex players and journos you mean.Sam23 wrote: wider football community.
If it were the wider football community then he would have been picked.
It's a disgrace that a player of Lenny's caliber gets left out of the "team of the year".
I am disgusted TBH.
No doubt Lenny and every player at our team would give up all individual awards to get the big one this year - but so what?
Name me 10 players who have had better years then Lenny Hayes.
Swan is the only one I can comfortably say.

The Saints are coming!
This is the way I see it. Lenny will be slightly disappointed this morning. Hodgey will be quite happy being named captain. In 2 weeks Lenny will hopefully be blind and very very happy having won our second flag in 113 years. Hodgey will be watching all the Saints players lapping it up and will be very jealous.
In 10 years time Lenny could either be 4 time AA and may not have a flag or a 3 time AA and one flag. Will he care that he wasnt 4 time AA. No I doubt it at all but he will care if he is 1 or 2 flag winner or a no time flag winner.

He was unlucky no doubt but it isnt as if he would be unnoticed by the selectors. He has got in 3 times before. I suppose it is democratic vote and he unluckily missed out. If it was me i would have had Joey out and Lenny in.matrix wrote:no ones doubting that and its more than likely correct
what we are saying is he really should of get a gig
robed? yes
matter? not really when he wins the norm smith and has a premiership medal around his neck to go with it

Sorry, but I don't buy this 'it doesn't matter the premiership is what matters.' Of COURSE the premiership is what matters. No-one knows this more than Lenny I reckon. However being named AA is just about the highest individual honour a player can get. Most of them have bonuses written into their contracts re things like AA honours and B&F finishes. Lenny, according to Roo, is already underpaid. Robbing someone of what is rightfully theirs is always a crime whether it be literally or figuratively. I'm pissed off about it, not just because he's a sainter, but because he deserved it. Nothing we can do about it I know but sometimes these selection decisions also end up robbing the AA team of it's credibility. It can be argued it's just someone's opinion and it doesn't matter. For mine it does matter, it matters a lot. It robs Lenny of his rightful place in the history of the game. Whether we like it or not, ppl look back at these honours when comparing players. Comparing it to the premiership is like apples and oranges. Not the same thing at all. There's no reason that Lenny couldn't be AA captain, AND a premiership player. Doesn't have to be one or the other.
But he obviously wasnt good enough to be in the side according to selectors. It is obviously a vote and he missed out. In my mind he is very unlucky but that is all it is. Unlucky.Moods wrote:Sorry, but I don't buy this 'it doesn't matter the premiership is what matters.' Of COURSE the premiership is what matters. No-one knows this more than Lenny I reckon. Funny how it appears to be just the selectors that don't think he deserved to get in isn't it? On just about all the footy shows last night the one thing they were unanimous about was that Lenny should have been in. Wasn't even up for debate. The footy show which didn't discuss the actual team b/c it hadn't been announced at that point was On The Couch. They had Sheahan's team up where he had Lenny in the guts and captain.
Of course I sound biased b/c I'm a saints supporter, but I reckon it's more than luck, It's just wrong.

So what are you actually saying? Surely it is bad luck and nothing else. I would have had him in for sure but I wouldnt have had Joey in. Doesnt matter what I think or anyone but the selectors though.Moods wrote:Funny how it appears to be just the selectors that don't think he deserved to get in isn't it?
