Key Details about the 2011 Fixture - 2 byes for each club
NEXT year's AFL fixture will consist of 19 rounds of eight games and five rounds of seven games to accommodate the introduction of the Gold Coast Suns.
For next season only - given the competition will expand to 18 teams in 2012 - all 17 clubs must have two byes to enable a 22-game season to be completed across 24 weekends of football.

Ummm it gets even more interesting, I was listening on SEN the other day they were saying the AFL is going to leave it as a final 8 as that is what the fans want, but they have this stupid idea of having a play off for 8th spot with the teams that finish 8th, 9th and 10th at the end of the home and away season. Like the 10th place teams deserves to play finals, what a joke, if you finish 8th you play finals simple as that.
This is just AFL's way of trying to make more money if I you ask me!

I am excited to stay at St Kilda and this is a great result for the Club and all our fans. I’m proud to be part of the Saints and am pleased to be playing football with the Clubâ€

The draw seems to be coming along nicely in it's organisation (it's not hard to do!)
But the whole 'more teams in finals' deal is ridiculous. You hardly get a yelp from the 7th and 8th sides now as it is.
Make the finals something to strive for, step back and make it a final 6 and then a play off for 7th and 8th if you want to do something that silly.
Why not have the night series at seasons end like they used to for all non finals sides? Have the draft the week before it, and allow the new kids to play.
All stupid ideas, but the AFL get away with it, why can't I?

They walk amongst us...
how about we add in a FA cup to that night series and get the winners of the local leagues to play.

I think the reverse was the problem last time.Griggsy wrote:I really don't look forward to hearing coaches saying they 'lost because the other team had a bye' every week.
Sides would lose and blame the bye they had the week before.
Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friends.

I think you will find that we have put in a late request to NOT be drawn to play interstate for the weekends of 15 July and 23 July. The Lovett trial is listed to start on 11 July with up to 6 of our players likely to be required to give evidence !!
NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

So I was bored....
I started thinking about the sorts of things I want in the draw next year and came up with our ideal 2011 fixture (well ideal by my standards)
This has us playing in every state at least once, except Tassie (sorry Tassie fans ) eleven games at Etihad and six games at the MCG.
I'm probably way off as I reckon we'll get way more interstate trips but here's my go at it:
1 - Bulldogs - Etihad - Saturday night
2 - Carlton - MCG - Friday night
3 - Adelaide - Etihad - Saturday night
4 - Hawthorn - Etihad - Friday night
5 - Port Adelaide - AAMI - Sunday twilight (before Anzac Day)
6 - Essendon - Etihad - Sunday afternoon
7 - Fremantle - Subiaco - Saturday night
8 - BYE
9 - Brisbane - Etihad - Saturday night
10 - Geelong - MCG - Friday night
11 - Sydney - Telstra Stadium - Saturday night
12 - Collingwood - MCG - Friday Night
13 - Gold Coast - Carrara - Saturday Night
14 - North Melbourrne - Etihad - Sunday twilight
15 - Essendon - MCG - Saturday afternoon
16 - West Coast - Subiaco - Sunday twilight
17 - Melbourne - Etihad - Sunday afternoon
18 - Bulldogs - Etihad - Sunday early
19 - Richmond - MCG - Sunday early
20 - BYE
21 - Port Adelaide - Etihad - Saturday afternoon
22 - Geelong - MCG - Saturday afternoon
23 - Gold Coast - Etihad - Saturday night
24 - Fremantle - Etihad - Saturday night
Bold are home matches.

I originally did have us in tassie against Hawthorn but then realised I had only ten home games and we need eleven so I took out the extra game versus hawthorn for another game agsint Freo instead. Then I forgot to change the bit I wrote beforehand.WCFCHobart wrote:You forgot about Tasmania. Do you work for the AFL ?OneEyedSainter77 wrote:So I was bored....

Top 8 in an eighteen team comp seems about right to me. Any less and there'd be too many shitty games in the last month. Any more and it just discredits the status of finalist too much.HSVKing wrote:The draw seems to be coming along nicely in it's organisation (it's not hard to do!)

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'
