we will beat either of them in a canter ...
and having said that I hope it's the Dogs. we front ... 'cos I would get more enjoyment out of defeating them...
and it would be far less a worry than playing the Swannies
but unfortunately I think the Swans will kill them and it will be game on!!
And on the other side of the fence I recon the Cats will face the Pies in the other Prelim and they can belt the living suitcases outta each other (hopefully!!)

I think we have both covered.
I feel sorry for the Dogs and wouldn't want to see them lose consecutive Prelims.
And revenge against the Swans would be good.
So I think the "right" result would be for the Dogs to go out quietly this week and we whallop Shyteney.

I think it's more accurate to say that this Saints team turns up to play the big games, not the best sides. It just so happens that the big games often involve the best sides.Teflon wrote:Im oddly more nervous bout this than facing say Cats.....cause against best we show up.....we just need to make sure we turn up to play.
It's a bit hard to imagine this revenge driven, Lyon coached team taking a Prelim Final, and entry into the Grand Final, anything but 100% regardless of who the opponent ends up being.
That said, I'll be as nervous as hell simply because of the importance of the game!

I agree....but theres always the unknown against an opposition (whoever we get) that will have nothing to lose as no one gives them a chance.Dr Spaceman wrote:I think it's more accurate to say that this Saints team turns up to play the big games, not the best sides. Yes, twice in successive weeks. Would be draining on any side.Teflon wrote:

We've certainly got the better side of entry into the GF, we've now got to make the best of it.
When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!

This semi final is giving me horrible flash backs to 2005.
We won a qualifying final against a short priced favourite.
Then the swans played a very injury riddled Geelong in the semi final and I remember cheering the cats on as I knew with their injuries they would be a better option in the Prelim.
That said I still went to the Prelim thinking the swans were only making up the numbers and we know how that ended up.
But getting back on topic, the Swans will beat the Bulldogs ensuring that we will have a nail biting style prelim final. I still think we'll win but the swans don't go away, so they will be within striking distance most of the way.

Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friends.

No team in a preliminary final has nothing to lose. There's a preliminary final to lose.Teflon wrote:I agree....but theres always the unknown against an opposition (whoever we get) that will have nothing to lose as no one gives them a chance.
Four teams a year get a chance to get into a grand final. That's more than the other teams get, so they all have some chance.
Anyway, perhaps having nothing to lose isn't all it's cracked up to be. What if having everything to lose is a better position to be in?

I think its fair to say if Saints play whoever we will be raging favorites and the colloqial term has and always will be that the underdog has less pressure as losing is expected and therefore they can afford to take more risk ie nothing to lose....its a "term"saint3d wrote:No team in a preliminary final has nothing to lose. Anyway its semantics I think the idea is fairly commonly used.
