If we make the Grand Final
AND if we play Collingwood
WE had better be wearing our HOME jumper!
Eddie McGuire changed their traditional jumper about 9 years ago to their current one which has caused the so called clash whereas before it did not!
The AFL approved this change, I'm assuming, but why should we then have to change to suit them!
Hopefully we will be standing on the stage holding the premiership cup this year and I sincerely hope that we can do so in our HOME jumper!
Aside from eroding the spectacle of the occasion, Grand Finals are hard enough to make let alone win and we've waited 44 years so if we are to triumph this year, I'd certainly hope that we can do so in our traditional jumper!
If we are playing Collingwood they are the ones that should be forced to wear their traditional jumper that they wore for over 90 years, NOT the one Eddie " we won't change our jumper for anyone" McGuire changed about 9 years ago!
A couple of years ago McGuire said in relation to North Melbourne that it was incumbent upon them to change their jumper because Collingwood had been around for longer, so going with Eddie's logic, they should be forced to wear their away jumper because they were formed in 1892, whereas we were formed in 1873!
I know the most important thing is to just win the premiership, but it would piss me off if we were not wearing our traditional jumper, because Eddie McGuire changed Collingwoods traditional jumper creating a clash that didn't exist previously!

At the risk of insulting your precious sensibilities with my avatar, don't you think you're a week ahead of the game mate?
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

If we play them in the big one, it will be the 3rd successive year we have met in finals.
Cast your mind back to what jumper we wore in the previous two seasons.
This will again be the case.
That said I don't care if we wear pink with purple polka dots if we take home the cup at the end of the game.

This is a sensational idea. I sent an email to Michael Nettlefold about it. Not that I'm getting ahead of myself; just that it's probably easier to get hold of the CEO during the week off than Grand Final week if we make it.sawks wrote:at worst we could always take the lead of spain in the world cup - clash strip during the match, change to home jumpers for presentation
Don't worry sawks, I gave you credit!

Jeez it'll be good if they do it, though. Not for the look of it but because THEY'LL HAVE WON THE BLOODY PREMIERSHIP!

I imagine in this senario their arguement will be that as the higher finishing team Collingwood gets to wear the home jumper.
Not that it should be that way, but that will be their arguement, I'll bet.
I don't care which jumper we wear as long as we win.

but remember we have finished well above them on the ladder for the past 2 years.bozza1980 wrote:If we play them in the big one, it will be the 3rd successive year we have met in finals.

"Another storied win in Robert Harvey's career. They say he is the embodiment of their motto of strength through loyalty, and on the day he became just the tenth man to play 350 league games the saints reward him with a seemingly impossible victory."

But surely that is the only salient argument?saintnick12 wrote:I imagine in this senario their arguement will be that as the higher finishing team Collingwood gets to wear the home jumper.

They finished on top of the ladder and therefore would be entitled to wear their home strip.
Afterall, we were entitled to wear our 'home strip' last season when we finished on top.
We wore our home strip last week. The AFL will do what it likes.Mr Magic wrote:But surely that is the only salient argument?saintnick12 wrote:I imagine in this senario their arguement will be that as the higher finishing team Collingwood gets to wear the home jumper.

Were you finish on the ladder has nothing to do with it. Although finishing higher may give you "home state" advantage, you are not the "home" team as we know it during the home and away season.saintdooley wrote:but remember we have finished well above them on the ladder for the past 2 years.bozza1980 wrote:If we play them in the big one, it will be the 3rd successive year we have met in finals.

In 2007, not that I agree there is a clash, the AFL had Geelong wear white shorts and reverse the hooping on their socks rather than have Port wear their clash strip.
Who finished on top again??
In the event that Collingwood play St Kilda in the Grand Final, based on the AFL's exposed behaviour, Collingwood will wear their white jumper with black stripes, we will wear our traditional jumper with black shorts and all will be good in the world.
Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friends.

I don't care what we wear during the game, just don't let them swap jumpers this time. When you try to explain why the Saints are holding up the cup in collingwood jumpers to your kids, it makes life hard.
I really don't mind our big white strip. It is probably more like the old school one anyway. The marketing department would love us to snag a granny in a different "lucky jumper" my kids would demand one on the spot. Just in it thats all I ask.

As far as I know it's always been the way.
NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

That's as I understand it also, but don't rule out the possibilty that a team could win the toss but still be "eddied" into wearing their non-preferred strip.HSVKing wrote:Hasn't it always been a coin toss to decide things such as...

That is the case. The club has also stated that they will not wear a full clash strip in the grand final. At worst it will be white shorts.HSVKing wrote:Hasn't it always been a coin toss to decide things such as...
