How will we deal with Paul Chapman - Geelongs most dangerous

Post: # 979864Post ralphsmith »

IMO of course. When was the last time we beat geelong with Chapman playing?

- How do you man up on this guy? Nugget chunkfactor, can't be tackled

This guy is so very very lethal. He slips under the radar, is not rated highly enough, is not shown enough respect

Do not underestimate Chapman, he is a game breaker and a confidence destroyer with that snap goals from nowhere.

Round 14 last year. But he still had a great game from memory.

No argument from me. He is more crucial to that team than any other player - Ablett included. Dubious knee, so maybe Bakes could give it a kick....?

Arsenic in his pigs blood or whatever that s*** is he pumps himself with...

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Add James Kelly who is in the all-Australian squad. He was absent also when we beat them. Apparently playing well this year.

In all seriousness, it is a good question.

Would you put him head to head with BJ?

Or Jones with a hard tag?

Or perhaps Dempster?

Whatever the decision, it will go a long way in determining the outcome.

has to be bj.

you probably cant stop chapman from racking up touches, so i think logically play goddard on him and get bj to hurt him the other way.

bj can play on him when chapman goes forward and in the midfield. but i dont think chapman can go on him when bf floats forward.

Something about our boys beating a full strength cats actually appeals to me, Chapman included....I want none of this 'but we were missing' business.

We can beat them, Chappy and all. 8-)

I agree with this, but it allows Geelong to dictate where BJ plays rather than Brendon himself or Ross. I think we should play BJ on him as you suggested, but if Chappy is moved to full forward to counter this, then we should move BJ off him and then Jimmy would be our next best match-upfor Chappy.

StSteven is right
Kelly flies under the radar
He recked BJ last GF and was everywhere.

BJ was playing with a broken nose and broken collar bone, and still had a respectable game.

Credit where its due... and not due...

Chappy has played a lot of midfield time this year...

His numbers are higher than usual because of this fact...

His damage essentially comes from disposals in the front half of the ground with his Inside 50s...

Gwilt would be appropriate when he is up forward but when he drifts into the midfield i just hope RL has a plan of some sort...

Similar to our Goddard, Fisher, Gilbert combo out of defence they have the likes of Enright, Kelly and Mackie... You can only tag 1 of these IMO otherwise we would be too defensively orientated.

Enright or Kelly are the ones of particular note.

It is likely Scarlett will play on Kosi, Kosi has a massive challenge to play both ways because they WILL expose Kosi if they can...

Time for the patience RL has shown in Mini all year and time to for him to extract his diget and put on a strong forward defensive tag....

When he is forward put Baker on him and move Dempster or Gilbert on to Stevie J.
In the mid field make him accountable also . Head to head with Hayes or Dal.

Leave CJ on Ablett

Also land on the knee at every opportunity

jones v ablett

dal v ling
Agree on this but I think the Ling v Dal scenario works in our favour. Ling

aint the player he used to be.I think the game has gone past him this

year. I'd have Dal run the length of the MCG a few times in the first

quarter just to blow out Ling's engine. He is definitely struggling fitness

wise. If not ,have Dal play as lead up forward at times as Ling cant go with

him on a fast break.
