The is the lad for our 1st Draft Selection

Post: # 976598Post WinnersOnly »

Mitch Hallahan (23 August 1992, 182cm, 77kg, Vic Country): Runs hard and loves body contact - probably the hardest teenager in the country. Had a superb under-18 carnival, and he does everything well, but he has no outstanding traits other than his hardness.

Rated by Paul Daffey in Top 25 & our first choice is at Sel # 23. He is exactly what we need to hlep out and take over from Lenny...

What is it with the SAINTERS wanting caste offs...

What is it with the SAINTERS wanting caste offs.

SELWOOD is a battler who has just been delisted by a club lucky not to finish with the wooden spoon - why would you bother.

Please SAINTS select good kids - you will be rewarded !

Thanks

I agree we should be careful of cast offs, but I think he is certainly an acception to the rule, RL could really get his career going.

We don't even know what our first selection will be, we won't know that until we exit the finals. I for one hope our first select is #25.

23 is based on our current ladder position - I hope we have 25 also !

It will make for some interesting list management this year - some big decisions to be made.

1. Do SIMPKIN, WALSH & GAERTNER get upgraded to the main list.

2. As it stands it looks like KING & J SMITH will retire leaving 4 positions on our senior list.

3. You would expect that SIMPKIN will be the Rookie upgrade leaving three Draft / Trade selections.

4. With SIMPKIN being the rookie upgrade we have to make two selections at the Draft. Leaving room for either Walsh or Gaertner to be also upgraded - unless we lose a player to GC, trade or delist players.
Then obviously there will be room to upgrade both.

4. Saints may look at taking another recycled player or even an older VFL player, however I would prefer to upgrade our three rookies and take kids.

5. ALLEN, FISHER & McGRATH will be delisted. With the expected 3 x upgrades that will leave only ARCHER & HUTCHINS on the rookie list. plenty of room to pick more developing players.

Can he get the ball?

How is his disposal?

Does he have any leg speed?

Vertical leap?

Peripheral vision?

Whats his decision making like?

Being a battering ram only gets you so far. Look at Aaron Hamill.

Mitch Hallahan is the main player in the VC engine room. Very tough inside mid who can go forward and take a contested mark and kick goals.

He won the MVP for VC under 16 two years ago awarded the Mike Fitzpatrick scholarship. Played for VC 18 last year. He was an integral part of the Dandenong engine room last year with Scully & Bastinac. This year he is the Dandenong Captain and also Captain of VC 18's. Has figured in the best players for both hit outs this year with VC.

He may not get through to the SAINTS but it doesn't stop us hoping?

surely we would go for Tom Lynch

Tom Lynch (31 October 1992, 196cm, 86kg, Vic Country): The bolter. A year ago he was playing in the Sorrento under-18s. In June he was taking marks and kicking goals in the national under-18 championships. Only Sam Day would top him for potential upside.

I just want 6'3" runners with a tackling ethic.

It's almost the way of now and will definitely be the way of the future.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

I've seen a bit of Troy Sellwood over the years, and IMO I wouldnt go there. If Matthews couldnt get the best out of him over 4-5 years, I dont see why we would. Hard at it, and not much else.

Actually I would be very surprised if his career continued in the AFL.

How about a 203cm athlete with a basketball background who has been likened to Kurt Tippett who just hapens to be a saints supporter (For our 2nd or 3rd Rd pick)? !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

This thread should hot up when the names of all the kids invited to Draft Camp are announced in a couple of weeks.

The kids already know if they have been invited, its just that it hasn't been publicly announced yet !!
