Brown or Riewoldt- ando's question

Post: # 973866Post saintbrat »

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/pick- ... 5906945660
IF YOU had to choose one centre-half forward, who would you pick: Nick Riewoldt or Jonathan Brown? Debate with Ando from 9am Thursday.

THERE was a time earlier this year when Jonathan Brown was being compared alongside none other than the king, Wayne Carey.

And there were enough who considered the comparison a very fair one to highlight just where Brown stood in the footballing world.

result will be interesting....

J. Brown seems to be liked by opposition fans more than Nick. Brown is a fairly no nonsense character and because of his remoteness from melbourne isn't promoted as much. Nick hasn't got the Premierships yet but if he nabs a flag or 2 he will be up with the duck in the future. Not sure Brown is quite as consistent anymore.

I remember hating watching carey pluck ridiculous grabs from anywhere and rip the defence to pieces, much like N. Riewoldt. If Nick played on and kicked round the body a bit more they wouldn't be that different.

Bogans love Brown because he doesn't train too hard and he sucks heaps of piss.

Riewoldt is a consumate pro.

Bogans are threatened by professionals.

Once I would of said Brown every day of the week, but now it's reverse.

For s start Brown can only get the best out of himself about 3 games a year...the rest of the year he limps around the forward line battling to get a kick.

If Brown could get his body 100% I'd pick him,but he never has been able to get it right, and it's only getting worse

Rewoildt gives very high output most weeks

For work-rate, I would say Roo.

For reliability at kicking clutch goals, I would say Brown.

Think you'd take either, or both if you could.

in the end it's flags that make or break a champion IMO (unless your a freak like harvey).

Could this be the best form and health roo has been running up tothe finals since 2004?

So so true, and well put...

I found it interesting also that earlier this season, once Brown said he and Fev did not have a scuffle when it was reported that Fev crossed the line again, it was taken as gospel... Despite many different reports of it happening... Browns word, despite it being merely towing the club line, was not questioned, cos he's the sort of guy that gets his missus to fetch him a beer and tell it how it is....

Yep he surely would get his missus to fetch a beer. I actually dont think he goes a day without drinking and trains when he feels like it. Everyone knows this.

I think Brown tried to play a Roo like game this year, which would be as silly as Roo trying to play like Brown.

Anyone catch Brown's first two games?
He was better than Riewoldt in his first two, and that's saying something considering Nick kicked 7 in round 2.

After watching Brown play those two games, I declared him better than Roo, since then he has been battling injury and not really given much.

How exactly does a flag make a champion???

I am sure
G.Ablett, B.Quinlan, R.Fower, B.Skilton, N.Buckley, T.Lockett and about 100 others would prove you wrong. If you called R.Harvey anything but, you would be selling him short.

Flags indicate champion teams - not players

Blumfield, Copeland, Allison - not Champions.

Fact is, if riewoldt played for Brisbane - he would have won 3 flags

Q) Which TV show do bogans love that Brown regularly appears on?

That would be one of the biggest reasons why they back Brown.

I would take Riewoldt in a heartbeat.

At their best they're just as good as each other. Brown looks more impressive in the process, but neither is more effective.

Riewoldt is at or near his best more of the time, though.

Can't say one is better than the other on-field.
But there is daylight between them in terms of professionalism and communication skills off-field and I'm sure that makes Roo much more attractive to sponsors.
Fans don't usually care about sponsors but it's the difference between your assistant coaches being SOS, Leigh Tudor, Tony Elshaugh etc or the exposed lack of support that Voss has.

Also, Roo appears to manage his body better so it will be obvious who's more valuable when he is still playing and Brown has retired.

I'm just amazed their even on equal terms when J. Brown is only 195cm compared to Nicks 194m!

Different players in my opinion. Rooey being a supreme athlete, capable of soaring marks and running opponents into the ground. Browns more of a one-on-one, oldschool type CHF who destroys you with body strength.

Browns kicking for goal is arguably better. Although Roo's is getting better in time. Roo creates alot of goals through hard running and his awesome delivery by foot.

Do you judge them on the awards they've won both individual and team, or do you just judge them on ability? Taking away the honours theyve won I'd pick Riewoldt. Iam biased though!

IMO any1 that would take Brown before Roo knows little about football

Brown's a decent player by all means but he's way too inconsistent and injury prone... doesn't produce nearly often enough these days

What rubbish. Lets not forget, Brown is nearing the end (as Carey and Brereton were at the same age), while Roo is still in his prime. It's like those who said Voss and Buckley were better than Harvey (about 5-6 years ago), because at the time those two were closer to their best, while Harvey was at his best about 8 years earlier. Many have short memories.
Brown, like Carey, kicks/kicked the clutch goals, time after time, while Roo misses far more than he kicks, when we really need him to kick them. He's absolutely great to a point, but has so far not had the mental strength of the other two. Today was a prime example of that. When the crowd got on his back, he crumpled. Carey and Brown would almost always have stuck it right up them. It's a huge reason they have 5 flags between them.
Hopefully Roo will turn it around, otherwise he'll be largely be remembered for being extremely good, but not quite getting the job done when it really mattered.
In fact, if we don't win the flag this year, I'd be happy for them to relieve Roo of the captaincy and give it to Goddard. I very much doubt it would happen, because I don't reckon Ross quite has the guts (which may be why we won't win it), but that could lift a load of Roo's shoulders and just allow him to play footy. I reckon Goddard was born to lead, even more so than Nick and have thought so pretty much since he first walked in the door. He probably does as much (leading) as Nick now, out on the field, and would absolutely thrive in that role, in my opinion.
I believe it may be enough on Nicks shoulders that he's our great white hope to win us a flag, without needing to bear the captaincy as well. He's done a very good job of it, but BJ may just do it even better, as he doesn't have any major deficiencies, like goalkicking yips, or the massive expectations, to have to deal with as well.
