Bit worried about the pies
I don't like the way collingwood is playing such dominant football at the moment. Geelong and the Bulldogs don't worry me so much - I think we can win on our day.
I hate to say it, but the filth remind me of Essendon in 2000.
Everyone in the forward line kicks 2 or 3.
Every new comer seems to fit straight in.
Players understand the game plan and structure instinctively.
PLayers once average now seem like generals.
I hate Collingwood more than anyone but they are now the biggest obstacle to our flag over the next few years !

Too early to call.
They look good but I think we'll have them if we meet.
The dogs actually worry me more.
Out of the top 4 it's hard to pick a winner at this stage for mine.

Footscray worry you more than Collingwood?
What planet are you from mate?
Let's hope if we make the Granny, by some miracle something happens and we can match them in the big one.
At least if the formline holds, and we finish 2nd or 3rd, and can beat Footscray and Girlong, we won't have to play them until week 4 of the finals.
Collingwood are 30% better than us, or maybe even further ahead.

We still call the western bulldogs footscray their too.
Does that answer it?
If I actually respected anything you posted I'd possibly be offended by your pot shot at an opinion. That's what a forum is for.
To respond like that speaks volumes about where u r at mate.
FWIW the dogs improved dramatically and their defense is as good as ours.
Long way to go mate. In case u been hanging out on Planet Snip for the last 2 years SP - Geelong were certainties in 08 and we were last year.
Book mark this page SP - the dogs are a danger and will beat pies first final if things stay as they are.

Re: Bit worried about the pies
Too early to call? We're 2 weeks out from finals. This isn't Round 10. This is EXACTLY the time you want to be peaking. Hopefully the saints do the same thing last week again tomorrow. If we're playing great footy leading into the finals, I'm not too worried about anyone. But if we're only just getting over teams in the bottom 8 whilst the top teams, ie the pies, are smashing them, then yes - I'm worried too.Finna wrote:Bit like us last year.CORDZ wrote:I don't like the way collingwood is playing such dominant football at the moment. I'd like to be peaking in the Granny. No point peaking two weeks out from the finals, then falling apart in September.
Who knows what really will happen in September, all we know is the same as we knew at the start of the season, there are four genuine condenders and on any given day, each of them have the ability to win it. End of story. The pies are having their moment in the sun of late, yes, they are playing very well, but finals are a whole new ballgame and I have a pretty strong feeling both us and the Cats have one eye on the finals and will come out to play when it really matters.

Why would they fall apart now? The main reason for good teams losing form is either injuries, or lack of motivation/complacency. Finals are close enough that they aren't likely to lose motivation. Injuries don't seem to be a problem either at the moment - however if they lose Swan or Pendlebury they could be in trouble.St Ick wrote:I'd like to be peaking in the Granny. They are playing like we were playing the first half of last year. It's the second half of the year you want to be playing like that, which is what they are doing.

Re: Bit worried about the pies
I'm not worried about collingwood. Peaked too early, playing at their best now, which is very good, but, in no way can you compare where we were at when we played them last to where we will be at come finals (assuming no major injuries). IMO they have a lot of young players that won't have the hardness come finals to go all the way this year.CORDZ wrote:I don't like the way collingwood is playing such dominant football at the moment. When we last played them:
We had 7 to 9 players struggling a little with with flu/colds/training loads
We had Roo in his second game, and struggling to play (was close to been dropped for the pies game), and he plays in the critical structural position for the team.
We had gram also well below match condition, and he also plays a key midfield role.
We had Dal missing, who is the key creative mid for us
After quarter time, we basically matched them for inside 50s and scoring shots, even though we were playing poorly.

Pffft.
Did you watch the game last night>?
Essendon were worse than Port were for us last week.
Take absolutely nothing out of that game.
Flower Collingwood.

Filth have been up for around 10-12 weeks now. Not many super stars or 'elite' players in that group. Just good B Graders and quite a lot of them are young with a smattering of A Graders . They require EVERY player to be playing at a minimum of 90-95% capacity to perform to the level they are. Do you honestly believe that those B Graders can keep this form up for another 4-6 weeks, especially the younger guys come the pressure at finals time? Not convinced myself, but time will tell.
Geelong, St Kilda and to a degree the Bulldogs have more hard bodied and seasoned players who will stand up when it counts. Don't confuse Home and Away Season form and Finals form. There is a BIG difference. Geelong and St Kilda have done enough to cement top 4. No perks for sitting clear on the top of the ladder - Saints supporters know this better than anyone.

IMO a fit list is critical this time of year. This is where I suspect Geelong may be susceptible.
I guess at the end of the day only those in the inner sanctum really know who is up and about as opposed to those who r struggling.
Expect a lot of cat and mouse over the next couple of weeks with selections.
I am only pinning our hopes on the fact that we have came through relatively unscathed thus far and as this week showed we were able to "rest" four injured players....well I suspect Reid was the only one of those who was never going to play.
I'd expect u guys to do the same.
Geelong appear to be "resting" players but I suspect that their resting of players has been somewhat enforced.
Make of that what u will.
Cheers....
Oh and I guess we have been somewhat "lucky" that 6, possibly 7 of those that played last night were rookies at some stage.
Never underestimate the value of your rookies.

I believe (and history shows us this - just take Geelong from last year as an example) that the teams that are going to challenge find that extra 'gear' when it counts. However, I don't believe that the extra gear comes from a player deciding to all of a sudden 'switch on' or 'step it up'. It comes down to the training regime. Geelong were 'loading' in the late part of last season and didn't look anywhere near there ominous best and there were question marks over them. However, once that was finished and they entered the finals, they were lethal.
St Kilda were exceptional through out most of the H&A season last year, but our best form was for the first 10-12 weeks and then we dropped away and never quite reached the same heights. Had we peaked late in the season, things may well have been different. We seemed to have approached the season differently this year, but once again, time will tell.
Still St Kilda ad Geelong rematch in the GF for mine.
