Why are SANDRINGHAM doing so poorly ?

Thats it.. you only named two players.. most of our best 22-25 have had an injury free year and when raph got injuried riewoldt and gram basically came back. Like someone said earlier mainly sandy players are getting in the best. These depth players aren't putting pressure on the current 22 and considering McQualter is still in the side after a few average (to be fair) performances in the last month or two.
IMO we've got the best top 6 players in the comp therefore makes the job of the rest easier.

For better or worse, its undeniable that Clubs use their first round pick on someone they think / hope will provide a decade of service and be the type of player that they can build the Club around going forward.
Our record with first round'ers ( or players traded for) since BJ in 03 is, for one reason or another, atrocious. Our depth wouldnt be harmed if any of Watts, Brooks or Lovett were still at the Club and playing good footy..or if any of Mini, Raph or Armo had pushed themselves up to elite level...the level you expect from a Top 16 pick lets face it. Hury is obviously still out on Mac and Tommy Lynch, but even if they do turn out to be the next Dean Cox and Steve Johnson...thats two in eight years...a bare pass if you want sustained success Id think
Also, one of the reasons that guys like Medhurst, Lockyer, Fraser et al arent getting games at Collingwood is because they have young guys like Beams, Sidebottom, McCaffer, Wellingham and Reid who are playing better footy than them. Geary, Eddy, Armo etc arent performing to anything like their level when they do get senior time.
No Geelong dont have a raft of exciting kids bubbling away in the twos either, but they have the soight advantage of two flags with this group already tucked into their trophy cabinet

Trained togteher 1 or 2 this year !
I was just reading The Inside Footballs article on David GALLAGHER and he indicated that the Saints reserves players and Sandringham players have only trained together once or twice this year and that the team hasn't gelled. He imparted his frustrations at this and to be honest I find it amazing that the Saints players aren't released to train with Sandringham at least once a week.
Is it any wonder the team haven't been playing with any passion. Is it any wonder playing for Sandi hasn't been a great experience for our young players. The Saints did this when they were aligned with Casey which I thought would change when they moved to Sandringham.
I find it disgraceful and real kick in the face to Sandringham FC and at the end of the day it just serves to hinder our players development.
Very very poor form Saints...

chuck in smith and simpkin. 2011 looks like it might be a real year for emerging players to get a crack at the senior team which has been pretty settled and hard to get in to for the last 3 years.plugger66 wrote:You can add Steven. He will be a star and if it wasnt for a poorly timed injury this year he would already be on your list. Certainly cant count Heyne because he hasnt shown near enough even in the two's but hopefully Stanley.Con Gorozidis wrote:man we must be smart. But it makes me wonder if this is deliberate, and we go after honest kids that can be educated to Ross Lyon's philosophy rather than big headed guns.
Ross is a good coach. But noone is that clever. Plus our poor recruiting goes back to the GT era also when we made several blunders in trading and recruiting. Thank goodness for Gilbo, CJ, Farren Ray, Schneids and Gwility.
Those 5 are our only real wins in the last 7 years. And maybe Big Mac will turn out ok.
But 5-6 players in 7 years isnt the best strike rate. youd hope for 2 per year. we are tracking at 1 at best. hopefully we can count 2 wins in 2011 with heyne and stanley. but we cant count em yet.

Sandringham having success is irrelevant.....they are just a player development club for St Kilda.
As long as the St Kilda listed players get to train with the senior players I couldn't give a brass razoo about the Sandy listed players.
They simply make up the numbers so a full team can be fielded.

Just goes to show how much you know about football Saints for premiers.

Players develop much quicker playing in a competitive team ? There is no way we can expect Sandringham to be competitive if the team are not trainign and socialising together. They cant run their team drills there will be no undertsanding of your team mates and no team ethos ! If I have to explain how that affects the SAINTS AFL team is that there is no form players bashing on the door putting pressure on the AFL team. Our player depth is poor and the reserves players are not developing quickly enough!
So it is a BIG DEAL !

Ok Einstein, if you are right then why woudn't the club be doing as you explain?
Do we really want training cluttered up with a hundred players?
Also, what about confidential training drills and strategy, can we trust a Sandy VFL player to keep his gob shut?
Can we be confident a Sandy VFL player is not a spy for another club, if allowed too much access to St Kilda???
Yes, I know nothing about Football.

Whats wrong with the SAINTS players going to Saindringham and training with them at the Trevor Barker memorial. Or are the Saints player too good for that!Ok Einstein, if you are right then why woudn't the club be doing as you explain?

They are part of fully professional full time league unlike Sandy.
They need to learn to play "Saints Footy" - you know, bomb it up forward to no one/any one......try hard not to score 100 points per game, leak in defence like a sinking ship etc.........

sp, i agree with your broad argument. but this specifically is a stupid thing to say. you can't assume that everything the club does is rational or smart - it's obviously just not. every organisation made up of humans makes human errors of judgement, and this could be one for the saints.saintspremiers wrote:Ok Einstein, if you are right then why woudn't the club be doing as you explain?
