Came out stronger than just about any other current player claiming Bakes deserved what he got. Guess what? Acker has now gotten exactly what he deserved. Good riddance. :D

It's easy for him to criticize others, but he know understands what it's really like to be shafted.

He has gone down swinging saying Brad Johnson had it in for him. One thing positive about our situation is all our turmoil happened early in the season. You would not want the distraction 6 weeks out from finals.

He is your classic termite Aker, he is still destabilising even as he gets shoved out the door and can't understand why no one at the club likes him.

I hope he now rates Al Smith as he owned him and shot his last chance of playing AFL.

I opened this thread with trepidation, as I thought it would certainly be an appeal to pick him up in Trade Week. Shudder.

AFL career gone.

Guess he can always sign with a club in the DFL (Dribbler Football League) next year!

So it was Brad Johnson that Aker texted with that 4 letter word that triggered his sacking.

It's a shame to see such a great player get his big fat mouth in so much trouble. Not one of ours so I've got no feelings for him with regards to this. You'd think he'd have learnt after his Brisbane ousting!

I feel sorry for Akker.

He would not have got sacked from Brisbane had he played his career 10 years earlier.

He is a victim of the media power in football, nothing more, nothing less.

His fault was not being able to adjust to censorship like most players have.

Akker comes across as a good, honest person.

He is not a drunkard, not a thug, nor a woman basher.

He also appears from reports to be a decent father also.

A quality person, a brilliant footballer, let's never forget these things about him.

All the power to Akker in his media career, it should be a ripper!

This sacking is just a perfect example of where AFL has lost the f***ing plot. The public's response and comments in this thread prove that the supporters are as guilty as anyone.

Fair dinkum.

"After all, this is just a game and we're in the sport entertainment industry and not North Korea."

Would people rather hear the usual 'yeah nah, the boys played well today' every time a player opens his mouth?
Or 'they're a great side (in reference to a bottom 2 team) but we stuck to our structures and we're wrapt'.

F**k me. The way this game is reported, and the reaction from the fans makes me sick.
What a sterile waste of time the AFL has become.

Since when has it become a respectable skill to be a liar?

Understand how you feel Grant - you and Akker are really like two peas in the pod......well, apart from the 3 Premierships bit I guess.....

I agree with RF and SP.

From all accounts i have heard good things about Aker.

Any one else hear Nova100 this morning, Aker talking about a meeting the players had in reference to his book. He made it sound like they were off the mark.

It is good to not be the team in the lime light, but i dont like seeing anyone getting treated like this.

I understand footy is a team sport and Aker is very much his own man but the Bulldogs knew exactly what they were getting. They were happy enough to let him to his media work knowing that he's not one to hold back. They even talked him into playing on this year.

I'm not really an Aker fan, but I just get amazed by the train of thought of 'he has a big mouth' and 'he shouldn't be so honest'.

When I see that BJ or Lenny, or anyone is 'On the Couch' or whatever, I honestly think to myself 'big freakin' deal', 'so what? They're not going to say anything new, not break any news, and repeat adnauseam the same old boring shiit about structures and crap that we've heard 1000 times before'.

The AFL has sanitised the game to the point that it's just plain old boring. And the worst part is, the gullible footy fan now suddenly tows the line and gets huffy when a player or coach dare say something outside the popular standard garbage we hear all the time.

Actually sad to see Aker go to be honest. His comments have not been that bad. Amusing actually. Most of his comments have been taken out of context. The comment about one of our own being a 'dribbler' was seen for what it was - a frustrated player venting in the media.

What I do find amusing is how 'precious' the Bulldogs players are. From what I have heard this morning, they are the ones that wanted him gone and were the behind the push to do so. They have shot themselves in the foot and they won't have a shot at the flag this year. In my opinion, Aker is the key ingredient that has been missing for them this year. The drive he provided to them when he was fit (look at his games last year and look at how well the team performed last year and then compare the team of this year and their current performances). Apart from beating a couple of the 'cellar dwellers', their performances against teams in the 8 have been pitiful. Big mistake IMO.

probably a good call...i for one was glad to see him go.......meant one more challenger out of the way.....

Yes this is all true Grant, apart from the fact that fewer and fewer footy fans are still gullible, largely thanks to the education and insight they get from here and other footy forums. The supporter world is gradually waking up to itself let's hope!

If you had Aker working in your business you would be really pissed off if he was constantly speaking his mind in a public forum. I like the fact that the guy stirs the pot but he could have waited until he was out in the media and not an AFL footballer.

He, unfortunately for him, couldn't withhold his opinions and the lack of diplomacy is still obviously an issue as he is still having a go in the media at team mates and the board.

If anything his outcry of indignant whinging just vindicates the Dogs board.

Characters struggle in a professional environment because they like to be free agents. He really just couldn't adjust himself to suit where the game has gone.

You really are funny RF and I doubted you. You basically say the game is gone but continue to Post here regularly. Funny but if I dont like a game or a show or whats on the radio I turn off but dont try to influence others that it is no good. I would suggest if the game is going as bad as you make out and at the moment your apparent side is going great then either stop watching or commenting.

The good thing is that crowds suggest you are in the minority.

Acker's a pratt and made his own bed.
I'm glad we don't have any attention seeking pratts like that in our team. Only problem now is we'll have to put up with more of the homophobe in the media.
You're not my pal if you use a media position to have a crack at St.Kilda players. No way.
